PROJECT 2: precedent house For this project, precedent houses were analyzed and deconstructed to discover their architectural intentionality. Students develop a better understanding of of architectural order, space, form, and connection to the site. A PRECEDENT HOUSE ANALYSIS: MORIYAMA HOUSE BY SANA A Moriyama House was designed by Japanese Architect Ryue Nishizawa from SANAA. It is located in Tokyo, Japan and was built in 2005 in a modern minimalist style. The structure is comprised of ten boxes which are assembled from pre-fabricated steel panels and large glass windows, surrounded by elements of nature. N KIRAN RAI AND ZAREEN ABEER

PROJECT 3A: site analysis MODE OF TRANSPORTATION THROUGH SITE 8:00 AM 12:00 PM 6:00 PM BEHAVIOUR MAPPING Bikes Pedestrians Other To achieve an overall understanding of the site and responding to the given landscape, information was collected and diagrammed to explore the landscape as a multi-layered and complex identity. The site analysis formed the basis for further work in the studio. It is advised against having dogs and other small pets present on the site. This may be due to larger predators such as coyotes that pass through the park. The tall grasses and other vegetation lend themselves to the inhabitation of many bugs and insects. Naturally, this poses as an attractive ecosystem for herbivorous, and carnivorous animals. PROJECT 3b PRELIMINARY SKETCHES EXPLORING FLOW As an intervention to the site in response to the site analysis, an experiential platform was designed to introduce a program which responds to and explores the formal language of spaces, and connections to the site. A fragment of the precedent house, Moriyama House, was also used to influence the design. For this project, the minimalistic ladder structure was used. N N CHOSEN SITE BEST VIEWS TREE COVER PATHWAYS N 0 20 m This project explores the idea of flow throughout the site and responds to the existing bike path in order to create a different experience, which visitors can choose to engage in. It uses the idea of the ladder and transforms the width of the steps in accordance to the slope. PROJECT 4: HOUSE DESIGN This project focuses on design synthesis in a house designed for two clients: one human family, and one fauna. One of the family members must have a form of dependency on another, forming a relationship but also a challenge to tackle during the design process. House finches, on the other hand, are known to live in the skin of buildings. Many parti and form generations were explored to respond to incorporation of the birds and the mitigation of natural light.
