Hakonechloa macra Nicholas A rarer form of Hakone Grass. Forming a compact cascading mound of green foliage take on striking red, orange, and gold tones in the fall. Shade ground cover or accent for woodland gardens. Shaded areas of mixed borders. Along paths and walks, rock gardens, slopes, sprawl over rocks, or containers. 8-16"H x 18-24"W. Zone 5. Panicum virgatum 'Cape Breeze Very upright habit, compact size, and is early flowering. Green panicles from late summer & persist well into winter. Shimmering golden inflorescences, resistance to rust, drought and salt tolerant once established. Perfect for the coastal or roadside garden. Birds thrive on the abundant seed and is a host plant for many species of butterflies. Superbly versatile! 30"H x 24"W. Zone 5.

Carex oshimensis Evergold' This shade tolerant evergreen selection has striking, banded leaves with a central stripe that is creamy white on new growth, creamy yellow on mature foliage. Makes a bright accent for all seasons. Position groups of these under colourful stemmed shrubs and trees for a late fall to early spring show! 18"H x 24"W. Zone 6. Cornus sericea 'Baileyi' Brilliant bright-red winter stems are particularly showy during winter months. Tiny flat clusters of white flowers appear in late spring, followed by white berries in late summer-fall. The fruit is very attractive to birds, tolerates wet or dry soils, as well as that difficult combination of winter-wetsummer-dry locations. Full sun provides the best twig colour. Cut back hard as needed (oldest-thick wood) in spring for optimum stem colour and to reduce size. 8ft H x 8ft W. Zone 5

Athyrium niponicum 'Pictum' The fronds of this deciduous fern are as colourful as flowers. Their intricate patterns of silvery white on deep green, accented with reddish stems, provide a dash of light in a shady corner. Grows slowly as a young plant. 12"H x 18"W. Zone 5. Athyrium nipponicum pictum 'Regal Red' 'Regal Red' has deciduous, triangular leaves of silver and green, with contrasting red stems, in each leaflet! This non-invasive fern forms small mounds, particularly nice edging a woodland path, in shady borders, or in mixed containers. 12"H x 18"W. Zone 5.

Rhododendron 'Ramapo' Abundant light purple flowers smother this compact plant early to midseason. Handsome bluish-green foliage makes it an asset in the landscape the year round. Create a dense low hedge or border, perfect in all seasons. 2ft H x 3ft W. Zone 6 Rhododendron yakushimanum 'Ken Janeck' An award winner on both coasts and the only Yak to receive the ARS Award of Excellence. Large trusses comprising an average of 15 deep pink flowers open in midseason and slowly fade to white. New growth has an attractive silvery indumentum that matures to dark green. Compact mounding habit. 3ft H x 3ft W, eventually twice as high & four times as wide. Zone 6

Rhododendron 'Bubblegum' A polyploid version of the tried and true standard 'Weston's Aglo'. 'Bubblegum' has larger flowers than its predecessor and makes a terrific show against the more substantial foliage. It s as hardy, but more showy. 3ft H x 3ft W. Zone 6 Rhododendron mucronulatum 'Cornell Pink' A deciduous rhododendron with clear pink flowers (not the magenta of the species) that appear ahead of the leaves; blooming very early. The softgreen foliage turns yellow and bronze in fall. Well-branched habit. 6ft H x 6ft W. Zone 6

Azalea Millennium' A feast for the senses! Fragrant, deep red flowers with a pale orange flare are set off by blue-green, mildew-resistant foliage. A late bloomer; flowers don't open until early summer. 4ft H x 3ft W. Zone 5b Azalea Fragrant Star' Very fragrant, white flowers bloom in spring. Blue green foliage is a nice compliment when not in bloom. Very heat tolerant. It s a twiggy deciduous shrub. Also, is hardy to at least, -31.5 C. 5ft H x 5ft W. Zone 5a

Amelanchier x grandiflora 'Autumn Brilliance' The usual mass of fleeting white flowers in early spring and edible berries in June on a multi-stemmed small tree. What sets this cultivar apart is its fall colour: a brilliant red that carries for miles. A specimen tree with vigour! Line your driveway or property with these! 25ft H x 20ft W. Zone 5 Corylopsis pauciflora One of the most charming plants in the witch hazel family. Flowers are primrose-yellow, bell-shaped in drooping clusters. Very attractive rededged foliage. Blooms very early spring before leaves appear. Longlasting as cut flowers. Ideal for the small garden. 6ft H x 6ft W. Zone 6b

Leucothoe SCARLETTA ' Zeblid ' A choice low-growing hybrid with bright scarlet new growth that matures a deep, dark glossy green, then turns burgundy-red for fall and winter. White bell-shaped flowers appear in mid-spring but are upstaged by the foliage. Shade tolerant. 2ft H x 4ft W. Zone 6 Pieris japonica ' Dorothy Wycoff' Compact but vigorous growth. The flower buds are coloured dark red and open to reveal light pink blooms. The foliage is dark green in the summer, turning bronze in the winter. Full sun to partial shade. 5ft H x 5ft W. Zone 6

Kalmia latifolia ' Bullseye' An appropriate name! Flowers have broad bands of cinnamon-purple with a white center and edge. Handsome bronzy red new growth. Stems are purplish-red on the side exposed to sun. 5ft H x 5ft W. Zone 4 Arctostaphylos uva-ursi ' Vancouver Jade ' The rugged disposition for which bearberries are famous, plus soft pink flowers in mid-spring and foliage that takes on a deep red colour in winter. A ground cover for a sunny location along a path or spilling over rockery..5-1ft H x 2-4ft W. Zone 3

Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Goshiki' 'Goshiki' is a beautiful evergreen shrub. Leaves are swirled with colours of cream, yellow, orange, and green, with pinkish new foliage. Inconspicuous, but fragrant fall flowers are a bonus; these do not appear for several years. Very versatile culture wise, full sun to full shade, well drained. Fairly drought tolerant once established. Pushing our hardiness zone, but worth a try! 10ft H x 8ft W. Zone 6b-7. Phormium 'Jester ' Not hardy for our climate! However, what an outstanding houseplant that can be moved outside after risk of frost has past. Add pizzaz to your summer garden! Very showy, slightly arching pinkish leaves with an orange midrib and lime green bands near the margins. Best colour in full to partial sun. Tolerates fairly dry conditions but looks best with occasional to regular watering. 1.5ft H x 2ft W. Zone 9

Hosta 'June ' A sport of the classic blue-leaved hosta, Halcyon' with a bright gold center, surrounded by an irregular blue-green margin. Pale-lavender flowers appear in midsummer. A standout and award winning! 1.5ft H x 3ft W. Zone 4 Anemone x hybrida 'Whirlwind' Exceptionally large (to 4 across), pure white, semi double flowers sway in the autumn breeze on tall, wiry stems. 48-60 H x 24 W. Zone 6

Anemone x hybrida ' Wild Swan ' An exceptional selection, offering prolific, pure white, cupped flowers, with a blue-violet reverse. Blooms are held high above dark green foliage. Excellent for dappled shade & woodland settings. Will not re-seed! 1.5ft H x 1ft W.
