STAND-ALONE AND COMBINATION DETECTORS

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, around 550,000 fires are reported annually, resulting in 500 fatalities and around 6500 injuries, and causing damage to property amounting to over EUR 1 billion each year in private households alone. Around 70% of fire victims are taken by surprise while they are sleeping, with smoke alarm devices immediately sounding the alarm and waking them. For cost-effective basic protection, stand-alone detectors are all that is required. Genuine alarm precision (reduced risk of false alarms) can be provided by combination detectors, which also have a heat detection function. Depending on the model, liquid fires not resulting in visible smoke formation can also be detected, along with false alarms caused by harmless cooking fumes, steam etc. perfect for use in household kitchens. 4 5

30 metres 30 metres 30 metres 30 metres Detectors that communicate with one another in the event of an alarm ensure smart protection, especially in large buildings. Up to 32 wireless smoke alarm devices can be wirelessly integrated into a detector group, without the need for cables. If a fire is detected, all detectors in the building sound the alarm. The system's cascading function then allows each detector to forward the alarm signal to the next detector in the chain, multiplying the effective range of the triggering detector and ensuring optimal safety throughout the entire building.

SYSTEM SMOKE ALARM DEVICES IN ALARM SYSTEMS

The primary reason for installing an alarm system is to ensure increased intrusion protection. However, it is also possible to integrate smoke alarm devices into alarm systems. This ensures that a fire alarm sounds not only at the detector (where it is at risk of not being heard if no-one is around), but at all alarm system components: at the alarm panel itself, via an outdoor siren on the building, and also via telephone call, text, email, push notification (Secvest app from ABUS) or via a protocol sent to an alarm receiving centre, depending on the system's configuration. 8 9

ANTI-DISMANTLING FEATURE Item no. HSRM10000 (RM10), HSRM11000 (RM15), HSRM20000 (RM40), GRWM30500, FURM30000 MUTE FUNCTION Item no. HSRM20000 (RM40), HSRM30000 (RM20), GRWM30500, FURM30000, FURM50000 An anti-dismantling feature can prevent the unauthorised removal of a detector from the ceiling and any subsequent misuse. Similarly to a child lock, a safety device must be unlocked as directed before the device can be removed. The mute function can be used to easily deactivate a (false) alarm. Pressing the test button stops the alarm signal for a few minutes. After this period has elapsed, the alarm will be reactivated if necessary. There is no need to remove the device or its batteries. BEDROOM FUNCTION Item no. HSRM30000 (RM20), GRWM30500 HEAT DETECTION FUNCTION Item no. HSRM30000 (RM20), FURM30000, RM1100 The installation of smoke detectors in bedrooms is recommended, and is often a legal obligation. In principle, any detector is suitable for this purpose. However, models with dimmed status LEDs are a particularly convenient solution for bedrooms. With this function, a detector can also detect the increase in room temperature associated with a fire. It also responds to liquid fires without visible smoke formation, and is suitable for use in humid areas (e.g. bathrooms).

SMOKE ALARM DEVICES OVERVIEW INSTALLATION WITH NO DRILLING REQUIRED Item no. HSRM10000 (RM10), HSRM11000 (RM15), HSRM20000 (RM40), HSRM30000 (RM20), GRWM30500 BUILT-IN BATTERY Item no. HSRM30000 (RM20), GRWM30500 Thanks to their magnetic mounting pad, all compatible smoke alarm devices can be installed on the ceiling without the need for drilling and screw anchors. The magnetic connector makes sure that the smoke alarm device remains firmly and securely attached to the ceiling. Conventional smoke detectors are available with replaceable batteries (with a lifespan of two to three years). Detectors with built-in batteries (10-year service life) are becoming increasingly popular, and are particularly recommended for private and public residential buildings. 10 11

FLOOD DETECTORS KEEPING YOUR HOME SAFE AND DRY

Around 3000 homes in Germany are affected by water damage every day. Flood detectors warn residents about even small leaks so that they can intervene in time. Conventional flood detectors only emit an alarm signal from the device itself. System flood detectors can be integrated into alarm systems so that they utilise all the alarm signal options of such systems. The Secvest wireless alarm system even provides active protection; for example, washing machines can be switched off immediately via the built-in switching outputs in the event of a leak. 16 17

The CO detector from ABUS ensures alarms are sounded in time therefore saving lives. In the event of a fire, conventional smoke alarm devices protect inhabitants from the fire itself as well as the smoke and gases produced, which represent the greatest danger. Toxic gases can, however, spread through rooms without there being a fire. The invisible, odourless and deadly gas carbon monoxide (CO) can permeate any living areas that feature heating systems such as open fireplaces, gas-fired boilers, flow heaters and oil-fired boilers. If the carbon monoxide concentration in a room rises considerably higher than the normal level, the CO detector sounds a warning in the form of a loud alarm signal, and can thereby save lives.

CO DETECTOR PROTECTION AGAINST A SILENT KILLER 18 19

Optimal protection: one CO detector in the living room bedroom basement kitchen hallway/landing (one detector per floor) Optimal protection: one flood detector in the bathroom kitchen utility room Bathroom Nursery Bedroom Living room Kitchen Basement How to ensure you are properly protected: Flood detector CO detector CO detectors give warning of a deadly threat. Alongside the installation of detectors, property owners must ensure they have their heating appliances serviced annually (ovens, gas-fired boilers etc.) Since 2013, property owners in Germany have been subject to a legal obligation to have a chimney sweep or other certified establishment inspect and document the condition of their fireplaces once a year. Water damage a risk that is often underestimated: water damage does not present an immediate risk to life and limb. However, even a small concealed area of pitting corrosion in a pipe is enough to ensure the spread of moisture throughout walls and ceilings. Mildew and warping of parquet flooring are just a couple of examples of the potential consequences.
