Kay asked that garden club presidents call her and announce when they are retiring and she also wants each president to send her a copy of their club programs for the year. Kay wants the Educational Fund budget to be attached to the January minutes. The following corrections were made to the January 11th minutes: Jan. minutes - Kay Golitz should hear from the mayor (concerning National Garden Week) in a couple of weeks. Correction - Kay should hear from the Village Building Department. Date of National Garden Week should be June 4th - 10th (not June 4-11th) Jan. minutes - The Daily Herald wrote an article written by Kay Golitz about the garden clubs decorating the library for Christmas. Correction - The Daily Herald wrote an article with information submitted by Kay Golitz. TREASURER'S REPORT ARBOR DAY Beginning Balance $665.43 Ending Balance 365.43 Citizens for Conservation 300.00 Savings Account Balance 3628.75 Designated Funds None Roe Malmgren announced that each volunteer for Arbor Day will be sent a letter with a job description. One of the volunteers will be designated as the leader. The library will have two display cases representing Arbor Day. Kay thanked all presidents for getting the names of volunteers to Roe on time.

Assignments for delivering trees are as follows: Garden Club of Barrington Green Thumbs Countryside Garden Club Country Home & Garden Field and Flower Garden Club Village Planters Little Garden Club of Barrington Lines School Grove Avenue School Roslyn Road School St. Annes & Hough St. Schools North Barrington School Countryside School Sunny Hill & Woodland Schools PLANTER BOXES Four volunteers from each garden club are needed for Wed., May 24th to help plant flowers. They will meet at 10:00 AM at Langendorf Park. Volunteers need gloves, trash bag, watering can etc. CONSERVATION Sam Oliver announced that the Barrington Historical Society is having an exhibit of landscape plans now through April 12th at the American Bank (used to be Skokie Federal). The exhibit includes 10-12 landscape plans mounted on boards. She asked the garden club presidents to tell their members about the exhibit and encourage them to go see them at any time the bank is open. Barrington Earth Week is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Earth Day April 17th - 22nd. The garden club presidents will be sent a letter asking if their club would want a booth for Saturday, April 22nd - celebration. Sam suggested a poster board might be made to show the Garden Council activities. No one volunteered, but call Kay Golitz if anyone is interested. BARRINGTON AREA BEAUTIFICATION AWARD The name of one representative from each club for keeping track or various places in Barrington for the Beautification Award should be sent to Cathy Lee by April 1st. The representative must check periodically during the summer for maintenance and appearance of area outside the building. Cathy Lee Four Three Lakes Road, - Barrington IL 60010. EDUCATIONAL FOCUS COMMITTEE Joanne Larson announced that the Program Registration forms must be mailed in or dropped off at the park for "Critter Control" - Thurs., April 6th, 7:30-9:30 PM and "Gardening in the Shade" - Thurs., April 20th, 7:30-9:30PM. Both programs will be in the main building at Langendorf Park. She encouraged everyone to register. GAZEBO AREA PLANTING Mary Neal reported the Country Garden Class will contine planting the gazebo with new improvements.

NATIONAL GARDEN WEEK Sam Oliver showed us the gorgeous banner that will be displayed in the gazebo area during National Week. The green banner with red tulip and yellow butterfly that cost $120 will be displayed May 29-June 12. A proclamation for National Garden Week will be made at the May 2nd village board meeting at 7:30 PM. All presidents of the garden clubs are invited to attend. Irene LaCesa read the proclamation. It was suggested that vegetables should be added in addition to flowers. A tree (no particular kind decided on) will be planted at the Village Hall with a bronze plaque placed on a boulder at the base of the tree commemorating the Council of Barrington Garden Clubs. Mary Neal made a motion we allocate a maximum of $500 ($350 from our funds - $150 given to us by the Chamber of Commerce) to buy the tree and plaque. Sandy Clark seconded the motion and it was approved. The stairway display cases at the library will be designed by the garden clubs to honor National Garden Week. Terry Ryan, landscape architect for the library, will present a library garden tour explaining the various plants at the library NEW BUSINESS The Countryside Garden Class contributed labels for the various plants at the library and donated bulbs and stepping stones. Tom Taylor appeared briefly at our meeting and informed us a new concept is being planned for Langendorf Park. He will keep us informed of the new plans. CORRESPONDENCE Kay Golitz wrote a letter to the Chamber of Commerce thanking them for the lovely Christmas tree in town. C F C sent us a letter thanking us for the $300 donation. Kay thanked Nita Hunter (Daily Herald) for her coverage about the library decorations. The Historical Society thanked the Council for the Christmas decoration at the Applebee House. Helen Withrow put the council on the mailing list for Stillman Nature Center. The 1st Sunday of every month starting in April there will be a wild flower program and bird banding at 10:00 AM at the Stillman Nature Center. Pasquesi Garden Shop will be hiring for summer work. The Village Planters won the year book award at the District 9 meeting.

The meeting will be held at 111 W. Station Street, (the old Historical Society Building). Village President Ronald M.
