Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department Monthly Meeting Minutes October 6, 2014 LAUREL BROOK & FRUENDS FARM PROVIDED DINNER BEFORE THE MEETING AT 6:30P, IN APPRECIATION FOR FIRE PREVENTION WEEK. President Chelsea Bottum called the meeting to order at 7:31 pm. She asked for a moment of silence for our past, deceased members. There were 20 members present. Secretary s Report M/S/P Sandy Evans, Brian Hutchins to approve the minutes of Sept. 8, 2014. Treasurer s Report Town budget is at 68%, 3 line items are already over, New Equipment, Gas/Diesel, and Equipment Update. M/S/P Richard Byrne, Rowland Denny to approve the Treasurer s Report. Officers Reports: Chief s Report: Officer of the Month October, Rowland Denny, Car 6 - NW SPORTSMAN S Assoc. now has 3 Knox boxes on premises - Knox boxes. If key won't turn. Remove the key and Gently tap the lock with piece of wood and small hammer to align the pins. Alignment of the pins is very precise to maintain the security requirements from Knox. Also ok to spray WD-40 into the key slot. - NVFD received 72 smoke and 42 Carbon Monoxide detectors from WTNH Ch8 and Home depot for Operation Save-A-Life 2014. Steve H and I are working on distribution and an awareness program for residents of Norfolk. At-Risk residents in Norfolk are being sought out first. Disabled, Elderly, Families with small children. May keep a few on the engines to hand out when needed. - NVFD job shirts, 3-season jackets & Knit hats. Order form on board. Placing order on Oct 11th - Motion to request $75 for Halloween supplies, hotdogs and candy - Recommend giving New Marlboro FD our remaining Survivair air packs and bottles. Our inventory of Scott packs has finally reached fulfillment. No need to continue to carry the Survivair line anymore. - Doolittle Lake Estate. Met with Mr. Moore last Sunday, Discussed residents purchasing Knox boxes, The purchasing of multiple reflective signs for when driveways branch off within the estate, Trimming branches under 10', Upper Tower Hill Rd general road condition, and to grade roads flat. - Thursday, October 9th Botelle Fire Prevention. Unknown if the smoke trailer will make an

appearance. Assistance will be needed. School would like to do a full evacuation this year (Fall). (Not associated with fire prevention though) - 1187 Litchfield Rd. wants to try and burn the cabin for a drill by Oct 31 st. owner is trying to secure all necessary paperwork. Will report to membership with a date/time via text/email as soon as I confirm with FM & Town - Country club on Golf Dr. is renovating the facility/kitchen and the alarm system. - Curling Club will be having an alarm system installed in the kitchen - 1st responder calls, EMS personnel are allowed to ride the apparatus to the scene and back - We will be scheduling EM Trailer radio repeater training, make flow chart on operation. This is a regional asset that can be deployed anytime. - Friday Oct 24th, crew needed for camp fire stand-by w/b-80. Botelle spooktacular 5:30-7:30. Need scene lighting, lower lot by tennis courts. Rain date: Sat, Oct 25th - Tall Order Embroidery of New Milford. One color NVFD t-shirts, Artwork & screen set up $45.00 T-Shirt with front and back logos, S - XL - $ 10.00, XXL - $12.00, XXXL - $14.00 Motion for $45 for dept to cover set up costs, members to buy individual shirts. - County chiefs is looking for 2 new members to sit on the board of directors. Looking for younger enthusiasm - Working on putting a weekend "open burning" form on the FD website to assist our community in open burning. Burning officials will get text messages from the form and make final determination for weekend burning directly with the applicant. FD is only hosting the service, not making burning decisions or held responsible - If anyone else is interested in becoming an Open Burning Official for Norfolk let me know. - Engine 90. Dot inspection and oil change. We know the pump won't pass is it worth the expense? We can pump test in-house. - Last Apparatus for yearly service (E90, then U50,B80, U70) - recommend giving NLCA our old copier machine -SCBA yearly flo testing with MES on Friday, October 24 th 9am -Back flush dry hydrants this month Important dates: Thursday, Oct 11th - 8:30a fire prevention at Botelle school Saturday Oct 11 th Last Call for Jacket, Job Shirt, Hat order Monday Oct 13 th 6:30p NVFD Drill Monday Oct 20 th 6:30p -8p - Evidence Preservation class w/ Paul Makuc & Baxter. Curling club Friday, October 24th, 5:30p-7:30p Botelle school spooktacular Monday October 27, 6p SCBA FIT Testing, Officer meeting & Equipment Inspection Saturday, October 25th, 8a - NVFD/NLCA joint meeting Saturday, October 25th - NVFD community safety day Friday Oct 31 st 5p to 7p Halloween Festivities M/S/P Matt Ludwig, Sandy Evans to spend up to $75.00 for Halloween candy and hot dogs for Halloween distribution. M/S/P Matt Ludwig, Rowland Denny to give our remaining Survivair air packs to New Marlboro FD. M/S/P Matt Ludwig, Ted Hinman to spend $45.00 for set up costs for one color screen print for department t-shirts. Members could then purchase their own shirt for a cost of $10.00 to $14.00

depending on size. M/S/P Ted Hinman, Rowland Denny to donate the old copier to the Ambulance. Car 2: EMS Captain will have a blue hat. Oct. 25 will be Safety Day, live fire demo in back lot, a real open house where people can see what we are doing. Will give out popcorn, juice, etc. M/S/P Brian Hutchins, Rowland Denny to spend up to $200.00 for materials for Safety Day. Car 3: Working on lots of promotional issues. Car 4: Question about what will be happening to the old computer. Car 5: Wednesday, Nov. 5 will be Fire Awareness program at the Fire House, called Ready Program, getting people ready for any emergency. Publicity will go out. Car 6: Car 7: EMS Captain: Fire Police: Mechanics: The new battery charger is in. It is not automatic. Drivers make sure you turn the main switch off. E40 is having battery issues, Brian will be calling for a technician to repair or will be taking the truck to East Hartford for service. Wardens:

Explorers: None LCD: Non union people got 2.5% raises. In negotiations with Wilbur s regarding the Colebrook tower. Correspondence: Thank you note from Shannon Tallon for receiving NVFD scholarship was read. Looking into Northwest Cleaning, they charge a $25.00 late fee after 10 days. Joint Fire/Ambulance meeting is on Oct. 25 at 8:00 am at the Ambulance Barn.
