1 FAMILY EMERGENCY PLAN BE PREPARED & BE SAFE
2 Would your family be ready in the event of severe weather, fire, or any other home emergency? While no one can predict a disaster, everyone can, and should, be prepared for one by thinking, discussing, and remembering important steps before, during, and after the event. This Family Emergency Plan will help you assess if you re ready in the event of an emergency and provide simple steps to take if you re not. By completing this exercise as a family, you can make sure that everyone, no matter how young or old, has a grasp on what to do, where to go, what to take, and who to call if your home is in danger. CONTENTS CHECKLISTS - How Ready Are You? - Making a Disaster Supply Kit - Yearly Emergency Plan Refresher EVACUATION PLAN - Sample Evacuation Plan - Evacuation Plan Worksheet CRITICAL INFORMATION - Important Documents - Emergency Contacts - Shelter Locations

KIT Regardless of how small or familiar your house may seem, in the event of an emergency it can be very disorienting...especially for children. Every house is different, please use this template as a guide for your own home and remember these simple tips. Using drawings is especially helpful for small children who don t read well. BACKYARD MEETING PLACE * BIG PALM TREE PATIO DOOR Create an evacuation plan for each child s room. With your family, decide on at least 2 outside locations where you will meet after an evacuation. Be sure to choose locations which are obvious and a safe distance away. KITCHEN MOM & DAD S ROOM Safe Area GARAGE LIVING ROOM Safe Area JIMMY S ROOM FRONT DOOR WINDOW Identify safe areas in your home if evacuation is not possible. Choose interior locations without windows. DRIVEWAY Having your kids draw paths on the plan will help them remember in the event of an emergency. FRONT YARD MEETING PLACE * MAILBOX Post your evacuation plan in a highly visible location as well as in each child s room. Include emergency contact information on your evacuation plan Practice your emergency evacuation plan at least once a year using several different scenarios.
