Class 12 - HARVEST TIME Mature fruit(s) or vegetable(s), unpicked. Class 13 - CLIMBING AND COLOURFUL A vine or climber shown in the landscape. honeysuckle, morning glory, etc. Example: clematis, Class 14 - A GARDEN FEATURE Example: water garden, rock garden, arbor, etc. Class 15 - Designated species as used in landscaping (whole plant or plants). 2017: Astilbe 2018: Cranesbill 2019: Phlox Class 16 - FLOWERING BEAUTY Three prints From bud to bloom to seed pod. Class 17 - MANITOBA'S BOUNTY An agriculture crop in bloom. Example: a field of Canola, Flax, Sunflowers, etc. Class 18 - FIRST TIME COMPETITOR A photograph of any plant, annual or perennial. Class 19 - FOUR SEASONS OF MANITOBA Four prints of the same scene taken in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter Class 20 - FUNGI The MHA Print Competition is kindly sponsored by the Weir Memorial Fund. The following regulations will apply: 1. Competitors must be members in good standing of a member society/club of the Manitoba Horticultural Association. 2. No individual may enter more than one entry in each class. 3. Each society/club may enter up to, but not more than, three (3) prints per class. 4. Professional photographers are not eligible to enter this competition. A professional is one who earns $1,000.00 or more per year from photography. 5. If a local competition has not been sponsored, entries may be submitted through the secretary of the local society/club. Prints may be entered only by or on behalf of the person who took the pictures. Competitors may enter through one society/club only. 6. Prints no larger than 4 x 6 inches will be accepted. 7. All prints to be taken of subjects in Manitoba. Interest must focus on horticultural or natural material. 8. All prints should be titled on back. Where possible the name of the cultivar or species of the principal subject should be shown. 9. All prints submitted will be returned to the exhibitor, but the Manitoba Horticultural Association reserves the right to make and retain duplicates of the winning entries, to be used for the promotion of horticulture, but not for publication or sale, without permission of the photographer. 10. The Manitoba Horticultural Association will not assume responsibility for damage to, or loss of prints. 11. Prize money is paid to the individual whose prints are entered and not to the society/club entering them. 12. Prints must be coded by the club/society according to the system described below: a) the first two digits identify the society/club b) the second two digits identify the exhibitor within the society/club c) the last two digits identify the class within the MHA coloured print competition Example: 29-13-09 29 - identifies the society/club, eg. West Kildonan 13 - identifies the exhibitor 09 - identifies the competition class d) Placement of code on the top of the back of the print. MHA Print Competition Revised January 2017 3
13. All entries must be in the hands of the Print Competition chairperson by December lst. Entries to be forwarded to: Manitoba Horticultural Association 135 Thom Ave East Winnipeg, MB R2C 1A2 14. Prints entered in previous MHA competitions are not eligible. 15. All entries must be registered on the form supplied by the MHA, and all information including the names and addresses of competitors must be listed. 17. The judges decision will be final. Prizes at any level may be withheld, if, in the opinion of the judges, the quality of entries does not warrant the awarding of same. The judges may at their discretion award an honourable mention to any print not placing in the top three in any class. Such an award will not earn an entrant a cash prize, but the print will be listed with the winners and shown with the prize winners. 18. Failure to comply with the above regulations by any society/club would result in the disqualification of all prints in that class submitted by that society/club. 19. The following score card will be used when required: 1. Photographic quality of entry: 1. exposure - 15 2. focus - 15 3. lighting - 15 4. composition - 15 Sub total 60 2. Horticultural quality of subject: 1. freedom from blemish 2. state of development 3. trueness to standard Sub total - 20 3.
