Two-Pipe Systems The HERZ-3000-thermostatic valve combines a thermostatic valve and a return valve with shutoff function in a single fitting with the thermostatic sensor element being placed in a position favourable from the viewpoint of heat flow. Special Design Features The models are marked by figures on the valve body: 1 Bypass bodies for one-pipe systems 2 Connection elements for two-pipe systems Marking of Models HERZ-3000-thermostatic valves are suitable for all radiators with connection from below, with a distance between centres of 50 mm ± 1.5 mm, and connection threads G 3/4 or Rp 1/2. During installation, take into account the arrows at the valve body. For systems with pipe coming out of the wall, use connection elbows G 3/4 (1 6248 01) between the HERZ-3000-thermostatic valve and the pipes. In case of radiators with integrated valves it is not necessary to install a thermostatic insert. The connection thread is closed with a plug. Mode of Installation We reserve the right to make modifications necessitated by technological progress.

One- and two-pipe water heating systems with calibrated steel, copper or plastic pipes. Maximum operating temperature 110 C Maximum operating pressure 10 bar Hot water purity in accordance with Austrian standard ÖNORM H 5195 and/or VDI-guideline 2035. When using HERZ compression unions for copper and steel pipes, observe the permissible temperatures and pressures as per EN 1254-2:1998 specified in Table 5. A maximum operating temperature of 80 C and maximum operating pressure of 4 bar applies for plastic pipe connections, if permitted by the pipe manufacturer. HERZ-3000-thermostatic valves for one-pipe systems are pre-set to 40% of the radiator water quantity. At the radiator side, there are two freely moving union nuts and a flat-seal connection. Optionally, two cone sleeves (1 3001 01) for radiator connection thread G 3/4 or two connection nipples (1 3002 01) for Rp 1/2 are enclosed with the valve. The flat-seal connection element permits the pipe tolerances of the radiator connection to be offset. In order to protect the flat rubber seals, the freely moving nuts must be tightened only moderately with a 30 mm open-jawed spanner. Field of Application Operating Data HERZ Compression Union Flow Rate in One-Pipe Systems Mounting onto the Radiator HERZ-3000-thermostatic valves can be pre-mounted on the piping. After shutting off both intake and return flow, the system can be filled and pressure-tested. After completion of interior work (painting and decorating work) the thermostat nead can be installaed and the radiator connected. The sealing surfaces pointing upward and the union nut of pre-mounted HERZ-3000-thermostatic valves should be covered with protective plugs until the radiator is mounted. The valve spindle is closed by means of the HERZ-multi-purpose key (1 6625 00) or an 8 mm Allen key. When opening the valve, it will be completely open after approximately 3 to 3.5 turns. Pre-Mounting Shutting Off the Return Valve 6274 6274 HERZ compression union for copper and thin-walled steel pipes 6275 HERZ compression union with soft seal for copper and thin-walled steel pipes, particularly suitable for hard special steel pipes and pipes with hard-galvanised surfaces. 6098 HERZ compression union for PE-X-, PB and plastic composite pipes. For pipe dimensions and order numbers refer to the HERZ catalogue or price list. When mounting the compression unions do not use adjustable pliers or any similar tools since this will result in deformation of the union nut. Steel and copper pipes must be properly calibrated and deburred. The use support sleeves is recommended. The thread of the union nut must be lubricated with silicone oil during assembly. Mineral oil would destroy the O-ring of the olives. The mounting instructions enclosed with the compression unions must be followed. The special connection element is installed between the bypass body or connection element and piping for the adaptation of distances between pipes and for radiator adaptation. For details refer to the standard sheet Special Connection Element. Pipe Connections G 3/4 to be ordered separately Mounting of Compression Unions onto the Pipe???? The thermostatic upper part can be removed using the HERZ-changing tool while the system is under pressure: Change the thermostatic upper part to remedy defects, caused by foreign substances such as dirt, welding or soldering residues. In two-pipe systems: retrofitting with thermostatic upper parts with fixed, stepped kv-values or with pre-setting function. This permits the radiator flow rate to be adapted to individual requirements. An O-ring is used as a spindle seal. It is located in a brass chamber which can be changed during operation. The O-ring keeps maintenance requirements to a minimum and permits lasting ease of valve operation. 1. Remove the HERZ-thermostatic head or HERZ-TS-handwheel. 2. Unscrew the O-ring chamber with the O-ring and replace with a new one. During this change use a wrench to hold the upper part. After removal of the thermostatic head or handwheel the valve is completely open and therefore sealed tight towards upstream. However, a few drops of water may leak out. 3. For re-assembly follow the above steps in reverse sequence. Order number for HERZ-TS-O-Ring-Set: 1 6890 00 Changing the Thermostatic Upper Part Spindle Seal Changing the O-Ring Chamber 2

If the radiator and the thermostatic valve are covered (e.g. by curtains or panelling) this will cause heat accumulation zones in which the thermostat cannot sense the room temperature properly and consequently is not in a position to control it. In these cases, use HERZ-thermostats with remote sensor or remote control. For details on HERZ-thermostats refer to the respective product standard sheets. Important for Installation In the exceptional case that the valve is not equipped with a HERZ-thermostatic head, the HERZ-TS handwheel is used to replace the screw cap. During installation, follow the instructions enlosed with the handwheel. HERZ-TS-Handwheel The screw cap serves for operation during the installation phase (pipe flushing). The thermostatic valve is formed by removing the screw cap and screwing in the thermostatic head without draining the heating system. Setting the nominal lift with the screw cap: On the knurled part of the circumference of the screw cap there are two setting marks (webs) in alignment with the + and marks. 1. Close the valve by turning the screw cap clockwise. 2. Mark the position corresponding to the setting mark +. 3. Turn the screw cap anti-clockwise until the setting mark is at the position marked under item 2. HERZ Thermostatic Valve Nominal Lift After the end of the heating period open the valve completely by turning it in an anti-clockwise direction to prevent dirt deposits at the valve seat.
