Trends commercial Discounter growth continues Going east Chilled Food and Convenience food are continuously increasing Online Shopping Hypermarkets The key focus of the retailers is on growth at both the premium and the discount ends of the market. 13
Some trends technical Refrigerants Plug-in cabinets Condensing units Centralized systems Refrigerant leakage rate Energy efficiency Products and Systems with CO 2 Further potential for improvement 14
Plug-in cabinets The number of sold plug-in display cabinets is increasing. This type is especially installed in discounters and indicates a trend. In Lidl discounter stores new display cases nowadays will be equipped with the refrigerant R290 (propane). These display cases are delivered by AHT. The AHT company has brought about 40,000 units with R290 as refrigerant (40 % of the total amount) onto the market. 15
Centralized systems Most of the overall installed refrigeration plants are centralized direct systems with R134a or R404A/R507. Refrigerant cycles are designed as simply as possible for installing and using Heat recovery is not realized in most cases 16
Centralized systems The number of indirect and hybrid systems which are established is low. These systems can be considered as pilot-plants or experimental set-ups. Currently there is no trend to these designs, not even in Scandinavia, Luxembourg and Switzerland. In these countries the number of installed pilot systems is higher than in other countries. 17
Further potential for improvement Further reduction of refrigeration load (insulation, double air curtains, glass doors) Reduction of temperature differences (high evaporating, low condensing pressure) Design of efficient cycles (basic design, components, heat recovery) Electronic expansion device Capacity controlled compressors Demand controlled defrosting device Intelligent control Efficient evaporator and condenser fans and fan motors Efficient lighting system in the cabinets Efficient evaporator coils (micro channel) 18
