The Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) is an internationally renowned 72 hours course that provides the foundations of permaculture design principles and methodology as set forth by the founder of the permaculture movement Bill Mollison. This course will be taught by Daniel Tohill, Trish Allen and permaculture certificate holders of Ark Eden in Hong Kong between March 25th and April 5th 2016. The PDC is the essential foundation for further permaculture work and research, and is a pre-requisite for the Diploma in Permaculture Design delivered by the Permaculture Institute. Thousands of permaculture designers worldwide constitute today a network of educators, consultants, emergency and development aid workers and environmental activists who influence major institutions, private and public, as well as individuals creating business and thinking alternatives, developing a group of committed people working together to change the way we view and design not only our landscape but also our future. The course covers sustainable human settlements for a wide variety of landscapes and climates. It includes the application of permaculture principals to food production, architecture design, system optimization, energy efficiency, and explores alternative economic practices as well as legal strategies supporting permaculture solutions.

Several course days which will be very teenager friendly (as a few people joining have young teenagers who would be very interested themselves in some of this course). Several nights where families can stay over in tents and join the night activities. The foundation for this course is the Permaculture Designer s Manual by Bill Mollison. Participants are invited to bring details of their own sites or potential site to consider during the course. Practical application exercises will take place at Ark Eden, a developing permaculture demonstration site in a secluded valley in Mui Wo, Lantau Island. During the Design Project part of the PDC, if teams wish, they can work on small and large scale design planning of Lantau Island with some of the Ark Eden staff.
Course Instructors Daniel Tohill & Trish Allen Trish Allen Trish and her late husband Joe Polaischer founded the iconic, award-winning Rainbow Valley Farm in New Zealand in1988 on permaculture principles and ethics. The farm inspired thousands of people over 25 years in sustainable living and demonstrated the principles of permaculture in action. Trish has now established a village-scale model of permaculture and shares her knowledge by teaching permaculture-related courses and workshops. Trish has a Diploma in Permaculture. trishallen@xtra.co.nz Daniel Tohill Daniel has worked for over 20 years as a landscape/permaculture designer, master planner, educator and environmental consultant. His ecological designs have won awards for his innovative and artful work and have taken him all over the world. He has done over 1,000 small and large landscape designs in rural and urban areas plus a diverse range of specialist projects. Since 1998 Daniel has also been developing with his wife Jude, son Oscar and daughter Poppy a permaculture/organic farm and apiary on 5 acres overlooking the Kaipara Harbour at the Otamatea Eco-Village in New Zealand. They have designed and built one of the first straw bale houses in the North Island plus an earth brick barn and a natural swimming pool. Building natural swimming pool systems is now his speciality. Meals: The course fee covers the cost of breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. We will provide all meals each day during the course and all food will be vegetarian and mostly organic, harvested on site or supplied by local organic farms. About the Venue Ark Eden is located in a lush, secluded valley in Mui Wo, Lantau Island which boasts a huge amount of biodiversity, as a direct result of years of planting native trees. Ark Eden s permaculture demonstration site was formerly one of Lantau s most productive rice and vegetable producing valleys up until the 1960 s. Ark Eden is the perfect site to demonstrate a sustainable, zero waste life style, where participants are in direct contact with the natural, wild environment and will gain a sense of the value it brings to us and other creatures. Participants will be provided with their own tents but will be asked to bring their own sleeping bag and mattress. Ark Eden has some sleeping bags available on request. On site there are 2 kitchen areas, 3 compost toilets and hot showers.
