We Domesticate the street t hrough the act of strategically placed Building Infill as obstacles, Redirecting traffic, Landscaping, Surface treatments & completely rethinking the traditional Parking lot and Private yard. In this way we enhance and give form to the rich micro-cultural-climate by providing intimate spaces & places for meeting & being in Suvela. Redefining the Street Car traffic has been redirected from either end of Kirstintie into a ring that feeds into the surrounding Buildings of Suvela. By terminating the road we transform the leftover space in the middle into a paved pedestrian zone through which only the occasional bus is allowed to pass through. By slowing down the traffic and shifting the focus from the car to the pedestrian we are encouraging safer surroundings, a pleasant environment and healthier, more sustainable lifestyle for the inhabitants of the. The redirected road for cars lead only to residential buildings and the speed is limited with curves and barriers. Intensifying the network of pathways makes cycling and walking in and through the much easier. Greenbelts The 2 vertical Greenbelts that run up through the site on either side of the Square are the Urban parks of Suvela. This bold gesture strengthens the pedestrian connection to and from the surrounding residential & neighboring Tuomarila & Espoo Station whilst also giving back opportunities for leisure and recreation to the residents of the. They extend to the two forests in the North of the Site providing a link to the existing Nature in Suvela thereby keeping the important biodiversity alive in the Urban environment. Within the Green belts the residents and visitors will find places and spaces filled with activities such as Outdoor gyms, Skate parks, Sports Oval, s, Doggy parks and a network of walking paths. This ensures a continuous hive of energy and activity throughout the day & evening.

Typically each Infill Buildings is mixed use with & Commercial at street level and Housing in the floors above. There form and placement is designed to enhance the definition of the Street and create a micro climate of protected communal yards with meeting places and s for cultivation thereby transforming the leftover dead space from the previous empty car parks into a lively and attractive living environment. Furthermore, by raising these landscaped yards on a deck and placing parking underneath we meet the practical requirements of this dense whilst also enhancing the safety and comfort of the living environment in Suvela. More importantly the yards encourage residents to grow their own food and in that way participate in an environmentally and cross cultural social sustainability of the neighborhood, bringing people from different walks of life together by engaging them in collective activities.
