Pretreatment / Rinsing Product Description North America Technical Data Sheet # The MetaAlloy CI system consists of a Pre-treatment and Neutralizer rinse: 1. MetaAlloy CI Treatment is a water based chrome-free surface pre-treatment that gives superior adhesion, improved paint flexibility and advances corrosion protection under painted surfaces. 2. MetaAlloy CI Neutralizer Rinse is a water based solution specifically designed for rinsing and preparing of repairs that are to be cleaned for refinishing while also providing corrosion protection on painted surfaces. Safety Considerations Use suitable personal protection. Refer to the product Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for more complete safety information. Mixing Each product is used as is. HVLP or Compliant Spray-Gun Set-Up: Spray guns are not required. Application Both products are applied using spray bottles. Flash Between Coats at 70 F (20 C) MetaAlloy CI Treatment should not be allowed to dry. Flash Before Force Drying at 70 F (20 C) No force drying recommended MetaAlloy CI Neutralizer Rinse should be air dried completely. Air Drying at 70 F (20 C) Following rinse application, allow surface to air dry completely without using towels. MetaAlloy CI must be applied over pretreated surface within 24 hours or the pre-treatment / rinse process must be repeated. Force Drying at 140 F (60 C) No force drying is recommended. Infra-Red No infra-red drying is recommended. 1 / 6
Re-Coatable With: MetaAlloy CI Aerosol Aerosol Description Following the pretreatment and cleaning process the MetaAlloy CI should be used. 3. MetaAlloy CI is a 2K chrome-free aerosol epoxy primer. Safety Considerations Use suitable personal protection. AkzoNobel Car Refinishes recommends the use of a fresh air supply respirator. Refer to the product Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for more complete safety information. Mixing The MetaAlloy CI Aerosol needs activation followed by 2-3 minutes of vigorous shaking. A 15 minute induction time is then required prior to use. Application Apply a single uniform wet coat. Air Drying at 70 F (20 C) Minimum of 2.5 hours prior to Surfacer / Sealer application. Maximum of 48 hours prior to Surfacer / Sealer application. Force Drying at 140 F (60 C) No force drying is recommended. Infra-Red The use of infra-red drying is not recommended. Re-Coatable With: Sikkens Colorbuild Plus Sikkens Colorbuild Plus 250 2 / 6
Description The is a chrome-free, corrosion inhibiting system for application and repair of aluminum. These products offer excellent corrosion protection and optimized system adhesion. The products supplied as part of the are VOC complaint with current regulations for United States, Canada and Mexico. Suitable Substrates Prepped aluminum surfaces. Substrate Preparation Pre-Cleaning Clean all surfaces with Sikkens M600 Surface Cleaner or Sikkens AutoPrep Ultra Prep Surface Cleaner. MetaAlloy CI Treatment Application Liberally apply MetaAlloy CI Treatment on areas to be repaired. Work in section of 6-12 inches DO NOT ALLOW MATERIAL TO DRY Completely scrub with red Scotch Brite pad such as Scotch-Brite Pad No 07447. MetaAlloy CI Neutralizer Rinse Application Following the MetaAlloy CI Treatment application and scuffing, flush surface with MetaAlloy CI Neutralizer Rinse. Rinse should sheet on the surface. If it beads, repeat the cleaning process. o The rinse waste created is non-hazardous and can be disposed of as such. Allow the surface to air dry completely prior to MetaAlloy CI application. o Do not use towels. o Do not force dry. o Do not use a solvent wipe after process is completed. Prior to painting, if there is dust on the surface, remove with water dampened lint free cloth. MetaAlloy CI must be applied within 24 hours of the pretreatment process or the entire process must be repeated. Failure to repeat the process could result in poor system performance. MetaAlloy CI Aerosol Activation To Activate Remove the red button from the over cap and attach to the plastic pin at the bottom of the aerosol. Place aerosol upright on a flat surface and push down to break the inner seal. A pop must be heard inside of the container to indicate the seal is broken. 3 / 6
Remove the red button from the bottom of the aerosol. The pin should move freely. Turn the can upside down. Shake vigorously for 2-3 minutes after activation for thoroughly mixing. IMPORTANT A 15 MINUTE INDUCTION TIME IS REQUIRED PRIOR TO APPLICATION. Pot-Life when Activated Product Mix MetaAlloy CI 70 F (20 C) 4 hours Application Apply a single flowing coat. The material delivery is faster than a normal aerosol and the fan is larger. Film Thickness Using Suitable Application 1 Coat will achieve a dry film thickness of 0.6 1.0 mils (15 25μm). Drying / Curing Time Drying times are stated a recommended application method, film thickness and object temperature. 70 F (20 C) 95 F (35 C) 120 F (49 C) 140 F (60 C) Recoatable Min - 2.5 hours Max 48 hours Not recommended Not recommended Not recommended IR curing is not recommended. 4 / 6
Recoating Sanding / De-Nibbing MetaAlloy CI must be recoated with Colorbuild Plus or Colorbuild Plus 250 Sealer or Surfacer followed by Sikkens Basecoat and Clearcoat. MetaAlloy CI primer must be allowed 2.5 hours to dry prior to sealer application but no longer than 48 hours. No sanding of the MetaAlloy CI is needed prior to Sealer / Surfacer application. If during the sanding of Colorbuild Plus Surfacer or Colorbuild Plus 250 Surfacer break through to the substrate occurs, reapply MetaAlloy CI and repeat recoat process. Cleaning of Equipment After use, invert the can and spray until clear to clean the nozzle. If aerosol is left standing, shake vigorously prior to each use. Theoretical Coverage Theoretical coverage is dependent of many factors. These may include; the shape of the object, surface smoothness, application technique and other application variables among others. 44 square feet per aerosol can at 1.0 mils dry film thickness and 100% transfer efficiency. VOC / Regulatory Information The products supplied as part of the are VOC complaint with current regulations for United States, Canada and Mexico. Product Storage Stock unopened or used products in approved closed containers with proper labeling. Store in moderate temperatures between 40 F - 95 F (5 C 35 C). Avoid too much temperature fluctuation. Optimum storage temperature is approximately 70 F (21 C). If pretreatment or rinse arrives in a frozen state, allow 24 hours to thaw and use. The product integrity and performance will not be affected. 5 / 6
