Wardrobe Jargon Long Hanging A hanging rail at a height of 1700mm above floor level. (Long dresses, over coats etc.) Medium Hanging A hanging rail at a height of 1200mm - 1400mm above floor level. (Trousers, long skirts etc.) Short hanging A hanging rail at a height of 950 1050mm. (Shirts, blouses, jackets etc.) Wardrobe depth The distance from the back wall of the wardrobe to the inside of the wall return. We recommend a depth of 500 600mm. Door head The section of wall that extends from the ceiling down to the top of the doorframe. The door head can limit access to the top part of the wardrobe unit and therefore the door head height should be minimised. Wall returns These are the sections of wall that are built out from the sides of the wardrobe to the edge of the doorframe. Wall returns obstruct access into the sides of the wardrobe and should be minimised. Shelf depth The distance from the front edge of the shelf to the back wall, commonly 400mm deep. This depth works in most situations. Bookcases don t generally require shelves much deeper than 250mm. Average cost per lineal meter Measure the total width you want your wardrobe units to be. This might be the total width of three or four units along one or more walls. Add up each room and this will be your total measure of lineal meters.
How to Maximise Your Storage Area in a reach-in Type Wardrobe To make the most of your storage design, plan your door frame opening - full height, full width access to the inside of the wardrobe. Never underestimate how much storage space you require for hanging clothes. Most people need minimal space for long hanging. Most clothing items only require a hanging height of around a metre (short hanging) meaning that two levels of hanging can be easily achieved. For drawers, ensure that they can be accessed and pulled out fully without meeting any obstruction, i.e. doors.
What is the best door system to use? Standard Hinged Allows full access to the wardrobe space. Think about placement of furniture within the room- is there enough room to open the doors clearly? There are size limitations on how these are made. Sliding Easily made to measure regardless of the size of the doorframe. Sliding doors operate within the doorframe - very little wasted floor area.
