REQUIREMENTS OF CONSTRUCTION SITE LIGHTING Level of lighting on construction sites Correctly implemented and sufficient lighting ensures good and safe working conditions The most important areas to illuminate on the construction site include pathways, staircases, landings, yards and switchboard environments. The most important areas to illuminate must be equipped with an emergency lighting system, that is, safety lights with battery backup or employees with flashlights. The hue of the artificial light must not compromise the visibility of safety clothing or devices. The level of illumination is affected by: Surface materials, colours Installation height (Source Finlex: Government Degree 205/2009 Section 26 and Swedish Work Environment Authority AFS 1999/42-44) Construction site lighting information package 2 (16)
Important in construction site lighting Lighting must not be glaring or blinding. The difference in level of lighting must not be too high between various spaces - the illumination must be constant. The eyes must be able to quickly adapt to the changes in illumination level One must be able to react to changes in conditions and the construction site. The lighting must be easily modifiable. A steady light with no shadows makes working easier and reduces the risk of occupational accidents. LIGHTING TERMS Lux (lx) Lumen (lm) Kelvin (K) Illuminance describes the intensity of the light source on the illuminated surface; the unit of illuminance is lux (lx). Illuminance depends on, e.g., the luminous flux, optical characteristics of the lamp, and distance to the illuminated surface. One lux is the illuminance that the luminous flux of one lumen provides, distributed evenly onto an area of one square meter (1 lx = 1 lm/m 2 ). Level of lighting in finished buildings In areas requiring accurate eyesight, such as on kitchen worktops and for reading light: 300-500 lux In storehouses: 100 lux (it is still possible to read in light of 100 lux) As cleaning light: 30 lux at floor level In outdoor use for pathways, in shelters, near entrance areas: 10-20 lux The lumen is the unit of luminous flux. The unit of colour temperature is kelvin (symbol: K). Bulb (power, W) 15 W LED (lumen, lm) 140 lm The higher the Kelvin value, the colder and more blueish the colour produced by the lamp. 25 W 250 lm Examples: 40 W 470 lm Bulb 2,700 K 60 W 800 lm Halogen lamp 3,000 K 100 W 1,520 lm Fluorescent lamp 2,700 K 130 W 2,000 lm LED lamp 2,700 6,500 K Daylight 5,500 K Replacing the old lights with LED lights easily creates huge savings on a worksite. A suitable working light colour is 4,000-5,000 K. 0.75 m 1.5 m 2.15 m 3 m 3,500 lx 800 lx 400 lx 150 lx The greater the distance between the surface and the light source, the lower the illuminance (lx). Installation of 230 V construction site lighting Each lamp has a 16 A outlet for a series connection. The lamp is connected to an earthed 230 V outlet. The max. number of lamps is 50 per each 16 A fuse. The recommended installation height of the light is 2.5 6 m. To achieve an even illumination, we recommend installing lights at intervals of 6 metres. The length of the light connection cord is 6 m. The light can be suspended from its hook, screwed in through the holes in the handle, or put upside down on a flat surface, or fixed to a tripod through a hole in the handle. DURABLE AND MAINTENANCE-FREE MBERG MBerg LED lights are designed for rough conditions at construction sites. They withstand blows and falls. ROBUST MBerg lights withstand blows and falls The components of the LED module are small and light, and blows will not loosen them. LED lights do not contain a filament or any glass, which makes them an extremely durable light source. MBerg lights are ready to use immediately after transport All the lights are immediately ready to use without replacing bulbs or testing. LED MODULE MBerg lights do not require bulb replacements The LED module is so durable and has such a long lifespan that you do not have to replace bulbs. Expensive and timeconsuming bulb replacements are history, and the safety at the construction site is improved. MBerg - Light for years to come A LED light has a lifespan of tens of thousands of hours, more than 35,000 hours even in rough conditions at construction sites this equals several years. MBerg lights have an outlet for daisy chaining or for a small hand tool The 230 V model has a 16 A outlet, which can be used for daisy chaining lights or connecting small hand tools (max. 2,000W). MBerg lights do not heat up The LED module of the light does not heat up and, therefore, does not pose a fire hazard. The lights are made of a special self-extinguishing plastic, which means that they are not electrically conductive. MBerg lights are easy to stack and transport on a pallet MBerg lights are designed so that they can be stacked on top of each other. One pallet has room for 100 lighting units. MBerg is energy efficient The energy consumption of the lights is only 21 24 W, depending on the model: they use up to 70% less energy than fluorescent lamps. In addition to low energy costs, the smaller cross-sectional areas and cores of the cables bring savings, too. MBerg lights can be protected with a protective bag during painting The LED module does not heat up like halogen lamps or other light sources. Therefore, they can be safely protected from paint and other splashes with a protective bag. Award-winning genius The European Rental Association ERA has recognised the undeniable advantages of the MBerg construction site lights and has awarded them the Rental Product of the Year award. The jury praised the durability and maintenance-free lifespan of the lights in the rough conditions of construction sites. Construction site lighting information package 9 (16)
Thanks to the LED light source, the MBerg light does not heat up, so it can be protected from paint and dirt with an appropriate MBerg protective bag. Construction site lighting information package 10 (16)
