Safety and Warning information WARNING Ensure that this monitor is installed in accordance with this manual. This product may not be able to warn of gas hazards if installed in any other way. WARNING Do not substitute components. WARNING G-TECTA Cellaguard is not suitable for outdoor or hazardous environments. Installation When carrying out any installation work, ensure that local regulations and site procedures are followed. General G-TECTA Cellaguard is a carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) or a carbon dioxide and oxygen (O 2 ) fixed monitoring system, designed to monitor gas levels in a confined space such as a beer cellar. The Cellaguard system consists of a wall mounted base station, housing the gas monitoring system, and is normally supplied with one repeater unit to be located in a safe position outside the confined space area. G-TECTA Cellaguard features two alarm relays, which can control external visual or audible alarms or ancillary equipment such as a ventilation fan. The Cellaguard system is simple to install using a mains power supply and has been designed for one-man installation. The alarm levels are factory set and the relays are fail-safe to ensure the alarms will activate if the power supply fails. Note: For further information on the operation and use of the G-TECTA Cellaguard gas detection monitor, please see the Operating Manual. This manual contains instructions for installing the Cellaguard base station and repeater unit, for connecting ancillary equipment and for calibrating the gas sensors mounted in the base station.
3 3 Before beginning installation of the G-TECTA Cellaguard please read the mounting, cabling and installation instructions, paying close attention to the location of the base station. Mounting Base Station The Cellaguard base station is designed to be mounted on a wall and should be located near to the valves and manifold of the gas source (within the confined space), approximately 0.5m from the ground (see Figure A). Note: Ensure the mounting position is within 2m of an electricity supply point and is not adjacent to a water or a moisture source. Fixing holes are attached to the base station so that it can be attached to the wall with appropriate screws and wall plugs. Ensure the wall plugs used are rated for a weight of 1.3kg. Repeater(s) The Cellaguard repeater unit(s) should be mounted beside the entry point(s) to the area being protected, (outside of the confined space) and opposite the door hinges, using the fixing brackets provided (see Figure A). The height of the Repeater(s) should be at eye level (approx 1.7m from the ground). Additional Repeater units can be mounted using the same method (maximum 4 per base station). Additional repeater units are supplied with 9m cables that connect in a daisy chain arrangement. Suitable locations are in areas normally occupied by staff to ensure any alarms are immediately noticed. WARNING G-TECTA Cellaguard is not suitable for outdoor or hazardous environments. Carbon Dioxide Warning Signs The Carbon Dioxide warning labels supplied with the Cellaguard should be mounted adjacent to the Repeater unit(s). Additional Repeater Unit Repeater Mains 0.5m Figure A: Where to locate and mount the Cellaguard
4 4 Cabling requirements Cellaguard is fitted with an AC plug for convenience. If, however, permanent installation is required, it should be wired to a dedicated AC spur led from a circuit breaker. The spur or mains plug should be fitted with a 3A fuse. The circuit breaker should be marked as the disconnecting device for the Cellaguard. It must comply with the relevant requirements of IEC and IEC These procedures ensure that the installation complies with the requirements of EN (Low Voltage Directive). Cellaguard Repeater units do not need specialist cabling. Each repeater unit is supplied with a 9m cable as standard. Electrical connections for external alarm equipment The Cellaguard has two alarm relays that can be connected to external visual and audible alarms or other ancillary equipment, such as a fan. An example electrical connection is shown in Figure B. WARNING Before connecting any additional equipment, ensure the mains supply is switched off. Unscrew the top cover to gain access to the screw terminal connectors on the PCB board. The two alarm relay connections are each marked NC (Normally Closed), NO (Normally Open) and Common (C). Use the NO and C screw terminal connectors as shown in Figure B. (L = live, N = neutral) Note: The alarm relays are shown in their normally energised state. When installing the device the normally open (NO) connection will be closed since there is no power. Similarly, the normally closed (NC) connection will be open. The Cellaguard can be connected to one or two pieces of external equipment or to one dual speed fan. Each alarm relay corresponds to the low and high alarms on the Cellaguard. If two pieces of equipment (e.g. two fans) are connected and the low alarm is exceeded the first fan will activate. If gas levels increase further, setting off the high alarm, the second fan will activate to increase ventilation. For dual-speed fans, low speed and high speed will correspond to the low and high alarm relays respectively. Note: It is recommended that external equipment should be fused. FAN Relay 1 Relay 2 NC NO C L N NC NO C WARNING The relay contacts must not be used to switch loads drawing more than 10A Figure B: Alarm relay electrical connections Internal Battery Backup Cellaguard monitors specified with battery backup will be supplied with the batteries disconnected. Connect the battery unit to the connector marked PL1 on the printed circuit board in the Cellaguard unit before switching on. Cellaguard Commissioning The Cellaguard is designed to work out of the box and requires no configuration of the gas sensors or alarm settings. Once the Cellaguard base station and repeater unit(s) are installed, you can switch on the mains supply. The Cellaguard system will become fully operational after a 40-second warm-up period. Note: The LED alarms and sounder will operate momentarily during this period and the display will self-test. L N
5 5 WARNING When commissioning the Cellaguard, the customer must be shown where the Cellaguard is installed and instructed that the Cellaguard must NOT be disconnected from the power supply. The LED status, the alarm conditions (shown below) and the Carbon Dioxide warning label should be explained to the customer as part of the installation process. WARNING In the unlikely event that the Cellaguard monitor is installed with no permanent electrical supply available, the Cellaguard should be tested with a temporary power supply to ensure functionality. The Cellaguard should be covered or labelled as NOT FUNCTIONING before leaving the customer s premises. Normal and fault states of LEDs The LEDs on the base station and repeaters indicate conditions as shown in the table below: LED Function Operation Indication Power Normal operation LED flashes (Green LED) Not operating LED extinguished Fault condition LED on continuously Power failure Sounder beeps every 20 seconds Fault System fault LED flashes (Yellow LED) Low Alarm (Red LED)* High Alarm (Red LED)* Low (pre-alarm) alarm level exceeded High (main) alarm level exceeded LED flashes LED flashes

G-TECTA Cellaguard Mode Button (Alarm function) The mode button is used to communicate with the Cellaguard system after an alarm has been triggered. Press and hold the mode button for 5 seconds to silence the Cellaguard alarm sounder. The alarm LEDs will continue to flash in an alarm condition (i.e. CO 2 gas is still present or there are low levels of oxygen). G-TECTA Cellaguard Self-Test A self-test routine is provided to test the Cellaguard and any ancillary equipment attached via the alarm relays. To run the self-test routine, press and hold the mode button for 5 seconds. The self-test can be initiated from the base station or any of the repeater units. The base station display will illuminate and test all display segments and the Cellaguard will alarm for a period of 10 seconds; illuminating the alarm LEDS, activating the sounder and activating any additional ancillary alarm equipment connected to the Cellaguard relays.
7 7 Calibration These instructions provide guidelines for the service engineer to calibrate the Cellaguard using the Cellaguard calibration unit (Figure C). The calibration unit is suitable for all models of the Cellaguard gas monitoring system. Calibration requires calibration gases and a pair of bayonet calibration adapters. In calibration mode all alarms and relays are inhibited. Calibration gases Zero calibration is performed using 100% nitrogen. Span calibration is performed using a gas mixture comprising 4.0% carbon dioxide and 20.75% oxygen with a balance of nitrogen. Bayonet calibration adapters A single pipe and bayonet fitting is provided for the Cellaguard carbon dioxide only monitoring system. The adapter for the Cellaguard carbon dioxide and oxygen monitoring system is supplied with a T junction and a single common supply pipe. The flow of the calibration gas should be set to 750 ml/min for the carbon dioxide only monitoring system, and 1.5 l/min for the dual gas monitoring system. Calibrating the Cellaguard gas monitor WARNING Switch off all power and disconnect any batteries BEFORE connecting the Calibration unit. Failure to do so will risk damage to the Cellaguard system.
