1. Introduction Congratulations on your choice of an Accent Air heat pump. Accent has manufactured heat pumps in Australia since 1993. The company is part of the Rheem family and proudly manufactures air conditioning and heat pump technology for domestic, commercial and large scale project applications in Australia and internationally. Like Rheem, Accent is committed to environmental sustainability. We continually seek to be innovative in product development to help Australian households reduce energy usage. The Accent heat pump is a strong reflection of this commitment. The main energy source of this unit is heat naturally available, either from the air around us, from water or from the earth itself. All of these sources are totally renewable and they provide up to four-fifths of the energy that the unit requires. The rest is supplied by electricity and it is this energy use that the Accent tariff controller focuses on, to provide you with the lowest achievable heating cost. The Accent heat pump tariff controller has been specifically developed by us with the intelligence to understand Australian electricity pricing. The structure and pricing of electricity varies from state-to-state and supplier-to-supplier. The simplest pricing is flat rate, in which the electricity consumed is metered and priced in single blocks regardless of the time or day of use. At the other end of the spectrum, digital metering now allows far more sophisticated electricity pricing which reflects off peak, shoulder and peak time electricity use, with the pricing structure varying by time of day, by work day or weekend or public holiday and even by season. Where electricity has a time-of-use basis (i.e. where discounted off peak pricing is offered), then the opportunity is created to achieve substantial savings in heating costs. The importance of this control and the high level of potential savings is evident when it is understood that the price of electricity in off peak hours can be less than one-quarter of the day time peak rate. The tariff intelligence in-built to the control of your Accent heat pump allows the heat pump to control its recirculating pump, ensuring that both the electrical load of your heater and water pump are optimised relative to the price of electricity. The control options opened to you may be as simple as restricting the heater operation to off peak times only, or to off peak and shoulder periods only. The more sophisticated option is to set varying target pool temperatures and differentials by time of day and day of the week. That is, the temperature of the pool will be controlled within a pre-set but variable temperature band. Your Accent controller has the ability to fractionally raise the temperature of the pool during the off peak period to build a buffer before heating is required again in the more expensive shoulder or peak periods. Likewise, it will allow the pool to fall to a new lower threshold temperature in the shoulder or peaks periods as a further way of delaying or avoiding operation at these periods of higher electricity pricing. Our development of this control intelligence included detailed evaluation of all Australian electricity tariffs. Some more common tariff options are pre-loaded and all that is required of you to nominate your target pool temperatures. But programming of every possible tariff option is readily done, allowing you to fully customise your heat pump and recirculating pump operation both in terms of your needs for pool temperature but knowing that you have minimised your heating cost. 2. Controller Layout 2.1. PGD Screen Figure 1 shows the PGD screen at the Home Screen. screen if there has been no activity for a period of time. 3. PGD Screen - Basic Functions 3.1. Turning the Unit On/Off 1. From the home screen press the Esc button 2. Use Up/Down Buttons to select Menu A. On/Off Unit Figure 3: On/Off Unit Menu 3. 3.2. Setting Pump Functionality 1. Follow steps 1-3 as per turning the unit on/ /off 2. Use Up/Down Buttons to go to Type of Circulating Pump Control screen. As shown in Figure 5 below. Use Up/Down Buttons to select either Cycle to test temp or Permanent Note: Permanent is for when the water pump is always on or controlled externally to the heat pump. Cycle to test temp will turn the pump off after the unit has reached set point and cycle the pump on after the temperature test cycle time to check the temperature. 5. Press Enter to confirm change 6. If Cycle to test temp is selected use Up/Down Buttons to set time between temperature test cycles 7. Press enter to confirm change. Version 1.0 6

3.3. Setting the Set Point Temperature 3.3.1. With Tariffs Enabled When Tariffs are enabled there are two types of settings that need to be set, the set point temperature and the proportional band or differential. The set point temperature is the target temperature for the heat pump to operate to. The proportional band is the change in temperature away from set point before the unit will come on. For example, a heating unit has a set point of 30.0 C and a proportional band of 0.5 C. The unit will come on if the water temperature falls below 29.5 C. It is recommended to keep the same set point for each tariff time period and the proportional bands at 0.5 C for off peak periods, 1.0 C for shoulder periods and 2.0 C for peak periods. A larger proportional band for peak periods will delay the onset of the unit, which will save power consumption during those periods. 1. From the home screen press the Prg Button 2. 3.4. Setting Date and Time 4. From the home screen press the Esc button 5. Use Up/Down Buttons to select Menu C. Clock/Scheduler 6. Push Enter Button. 3.5. Programming the scheduler 1. From the home screen press the Esc button 2. Use Up/Down Buttons to select Menu C. Clock/Scheduler 3. Press Enter If Enable Scheduler = yes then skip to step 7. 4. Press the Enter button until enable scheduler : No is highlighted 5. Use Up/Down Buttons to set YES 6. Press enter until there are no items highlighted 7. 3.6. Programming for Tariff control 3.6.1. Loading Default Times 1. From the home screen press the Esc button 2. Use Up/Down Buttons to select Menu C. Clock/Scheduler 3. Figure 10 below. The letters represent one hour of the 12 hours on an analogue clock. 3.7. Changing between the PGD and PST Controllers When the PST controller is used in conjunction with a PGD controller the default control will be the PGD controller and the PST controller will be inactive. Changing between controllers can be performed through the PGD only as described in 3.7.1 and 3.7.2 below. If the PGD becomes disconnected, for whatever reason, the PST will assume control. When the PGD is reconnected the PGD will automatically become the active controller and the PST will become inactive. 3.7.1. Changing from the PGD to the PST Controller 1. From the home screen press the Esc button 2. Use Up/Down Buttons to select Menu G. Service 3. Press Enter 4. Use Up/Down Buttons to select Menu a. Change Display 5. Press Enter 6. Press Enter to change to the PST Controller 7. Use the PST controller as desired 3.7.2. Changing from the PST to the PGD When the PST is the active controller the PGD will mimic the PST on the top line of the display. 1. Press the Prg Button 2. Press Enter 3. Alarm History In the event of an alarm the Alarm button will flash red. Push the Alarm Button to view the alarm. 4.2.1. Viewing the Alarm History 1. From the home screen press the Esc button 2. From the home screen press the Alarm Button to view active alarms 2. Push and hold the Alarm Button to clear the active alarms Note: Once the alarm is cleared the screen should read as shown below in Figure 11. 4.2.3. Resetting the Alarm History: Note: It is not recommended to reset the alarm history as the history aids service technicians in diagnosing faults. 1. Follow steps 1 to 3 in 4.2.1 Viewing the Alarm History 2. When viewing one of the alarms press Enter 3. Press Enter Again 4. When No is highlighted, use the Up/Down Arrows to change it to yes 5. Yes will disappear automatically when the alarm history has been reset 4.3. Board Switch This menu is not used. 4.4. Service This menu is intended for service people only and is not covered in this manual. 4.5. Manufacturer This menu is intended for the manufacturer s agents only and is not covered in this manual. 5. The PST Controller When the PST is used in conjunction with a PGD controller the default control will be the PGD screen and the PST screen will be inactive. Changing between controllers is described in section 3.7 above. 5.1. Scroll to the St screen and push set to change set point. 5.2. Type U (User) Parameters Access and setting type U (User) parameters 1. Push and hold both the Up and Down buttons. 2. Scroll inside the parameter menu using Up/Down buttons. 3. To display/set the values of the parameter displayed, press Set, then Up/Down and finally Set to confirm the changes Changes will automatically be stored by either pressing set or waiting for the screen to timeout. The Type U parameters are listed in Table 2 below. Depending on the settings, some of the parameters listed in Table 2 may not be available. Setting the PST 6.1. Turning the unit On/Off The default for the PST screen is ON and can only be changed using the PGD controller 6.2. Setting Pump Functionality Setting of the pump functionality is locked in the service menus of the PST, future software versions will enable setting the pump functionality from the PST controller. Setting Pump functionality can be performed by the user using the PGD screen. 6.3. Setting the Set Point Temperature 6.3.1. Tariffs Enabled When Tariffs are enabled there are two types of settings that need to be set, the set point temperature and the differential or proportional band. The set point temperature is the target temperature for the heat pump to operate to. The differential is the change in temperature away from set point before the unit will come on. For example, a heating unit has a set point of 30.0 C and a differential of 0.5 C. The unit will come on if the water temperature falls below 29.5 C. It is recommended to keep the same set point for each tariff time period and the proportional bands at 0.5 C for off peak periods, 1.0 C for shoulder periods and 2.0 C for peak periods. A larger proportional band for peak periods will delay the onset of the unit, which will save power consumption during those periods. 1. Enter the Type U parameter menu as described above 2. Repeat steps 2-5 for parameters St2 (Shoulder set point), St3 (Peak set point), rd1 (off peak differential), rd2 (Shoulder differential) and rd3 (Peak differential) 6.3.2. Tariffs Disabled With tariffs disabled press the navigate to the St parameter in the home screens and press set. Using Up/Down adjust the temperature as desired and press set to confirm changes. 6.4. Setting Date and Time 1. Enter the Type U parameter menu as described above 2. Scroll using Up/Down to navigate to the desired setting as per 3. Table 3 below. 4. Press Set 5. 7. PST Alarms In the event of an alarm the Set/Alarm Button will light up red and a buzzer will sound. The buzzer will continue to sound until the alarm button is pressed two times consecutively. 7.1. Viewing an Alarm 7.2.
