Schübeler DS-DIA Ducted Fan Series Manual Manual for the following fan units: DS-26-DIA HDT DS-30-DIA HDT DS-44-DIA HDT DS-51-DIA HDT DS-75-DIA HDT DS-94-DIA HDT
Safety instructions (Read before first use!) The DS-DIA ducted fan system is solely to be used in non man-carrying RC models. Any other use is prohibited. Please read and follow the assembly instructions carefully. Run your fan unit only outdoors and installed in your model or on a test bed with chip protection. When running the fan unit do not stay in front of or beside it. Never hold your hand in front of the intake. Stay away from the jet stream of the fan unit. Before starting the fan unit always remove all loose parts like clothes, tools etc. Always mount the rotor unit properly on the shaft as described on page 4. Never use the fan unit when realizing unusual vibrations. Stop it immediately and find the cause before running it again. Never exceed the maximum allowed rotational speed for you fan unit (see Technical Data ). Cool down all drive components - particularly battery and motor - before starting for another flight. Never exceed the maximum allowed voltage for your fan drive system. Before first use make sure that all screws are tightened properly, especially the grub screws fixing the rotor. The advantages of you new Schübeler fan unit: The DS-DIA fan unit is a high-end product for efficient electric jet flying. Your fan is handmade in Germany by using high-quality materials; due to weight and strength reasons no inection-molded parts are used. Each fan has to pass a strict final check. A special feature of all genuine Schübeler fan systems are the fine-balanced rotor units. The DS-DIA fans have been optimized to guarantee highest efficiency during horizontal and high-speed flight. Static thrust is also very high to enable powerful take-offs. The special diagonal shape of the hub allows you to run your fan at highest rpm s free from resonance or vibrations. Have fun using your Schübeler DS-DIA fan unit!

The carbon fibre fans of the DS-xx-DIA HDT series come fully assembled. You just have to install the motor and mount the rotor unit. For all fan units we additionally offer the Secure Fan Fix system for fixing the fan into the fuselage.
Assembly of the DS-xx-DIA HDT fan unit: 1.1. Solder your controller to the motor. Always place the controller near the battery to keep the cables short. Provide cooling air for the controller through openings in fuselage or intake. Make an oval cutout between streamlined fairing and stator to lead through the three motor phases (drawing 3). 1.2. Mill a small flat on one side of the motor shaft with a Dremel tool so that the screw connection of the rotor can handle higher torque (drawing 2). Shift the motor into the stator to find the right position for the flattening by means of an Allen key. The fit between adaptor and motor shaft is deliberately very tight.should you need force to slide the rotor onto the shaft please smoothly sand the shaft with sandpaper grid 600. Please contact us in case of doubt. (Close all openings of your motor with adhesive tape to protect it from chips!) 1.3. Fix the carbon sticks with double-sided adhesive tape to the rear end of you motor (drawing 2). Wrap motor and sticks with several layers of clear adhesive tape until the motor fits tight into the stator. 1.4. Screw motor to motor former. To adjust the tip clearance the motor can be slightly moved. 1.5. Fix the rotor on the motor shaft and secure the grub screws with a small amount of Loctite 222 (can be obtained from us). Always shift the rotor unit up to the maximum position of the shaft to avoid vibrations. 1.6 Depending on the preferred way of fixing the fan into the fuselage use the optionally availavle Secure Fan Fix system. Assembling the optional Secure Fan Fix system: 2.1. The Secure Fan Fix system consists of high-quality carbon CNC-milled parts which are precisely made, lightweight and very rigid. It enables fixing of the flanges in an exact 180 angle and keeps also big and heavy fan units in the fuselage. 2.2. Glue the three carbon parts together with cyanoacrylate. Pay attention that: 1. Both flanges are parallel in front view. 2. The flanges form a right angle with the arch. 3 The flanges are parallel in top view. 4. The bottom side of the flanges are coplanar to each other. (Pictures 1-3) 2.3. After curing put the pre-assembled Secure Fan Fix system on the fan unit. The rear edge of both flanges is flush with the rear edge of the shroud. When using a fan unit with an even number of stator blades the flanges should be placed on two stators. Also pay attention to the required position ot the motor label and the cable lead-through. Scribe the outlines of the Secure Fan Fix system. Sand this area of the shroud and fit the Secure Fan Fix system at right angles. Glue with cyanoacrylate and make glue lines with black-colored Epoxy glue (picture 4). Picture 1 Picture 2 Picture 3 Picture 4
