SAM-MAX Refrigerant Monitors Monitor Refrigerants Including CFCs, HFCs and Ammonia Monitor Carbon Monoxide Exceeds ASHRAE 5-99 and USEPA 608 Monitoring Requirements Provide for Single or Multipoint Sampling A World of Solutions
SAM-I MAX and SAM-IV MAX As a result of the mandatory phaseout of CFCs and HCFCs, the refrigeration industry is perhaps one of the most rapidly evolving industries of the decade. Rising refrigerant costs and the introduction of new alternative refrigerants have made refrigerant management, conservation, and safety increasingly important issues. The ASHRAE 5-99 safety and USEPA 608 leak rate requirements make monitoring of refrigerants in equipment rooms mandatory. Simple economics makes refrigerant monitoring a necessity. The new SAM-MAX product line from OI Analytical offers different cost-effective alternatives for the continuous monitoring of refrigerants with almost any chiller configuration. ADVANCED INFRARED TECHNOLOGY All SAM-MAX continuous refrigerant monitors use patented infrared technology to detect refrigerant gases as low as ppm. The SAM-MAX s unique optical design allows it to be compound-specific, which practically eliminates nuisance alarms from other compounds that may be present. OI Analytical s patented small, low volume Macro Light Pipe TM gas cell allows for rapid instrument response to changes in concentration levels. RUGGED AND COMPACT DESIGN The new SAM-MAX incorporates the monitor and sample manifold in one compact, watertight package. One instrument can monitor up to sample points with optional expansion module packages. Samples can be collected from distances of up to 500 feet. SAM-MAX monitors are less sensitive to vibration and temperature fluctuation than most units and can be mounted on the wall, rack, or the refrigeration or HVAC equipment itself. Easily integrate the SAM-MAX into your building control system. Three level alarms warn against refrigerant leaks. Standard outputs include 20 ma and a choice of RS-85 or RS-232. Optional Windows -based software is available for remote control of all parameters of the SAM-MAX monitors. RELIABLE, UNBEATABLE PERFORMANCE Each system is factory calibrated and easy to install...no NEED TO CALIBRATE UPON START-UP OR DURING THE FIRST YEAR OF OPERATION. Refrigerant concentration levels are indicated on the digital display. Alarm messages identify the problem area and the alarm level. Diagnostic indicators pinpoint any system malfunction. Thousands of SAM continuous refrigerant monitors are currently installed to monitor chillers around the world. SAM-MAX monitors are installed in mechanical rooms, supermarkets and refrigerant storage locations, propellant filling operations, solvent cleaning stations, and wherever else refrigerant leaks may occur or exposure monitoring is required. SAM-MAX monitors come with a one year parts and factory service warranty and are backed with unmatched technical support worldwide.
...The Ideal Refrigerant Monitors Zero and particulate filter assemblies included with the monitor ensure long-term, drift-free, unattended operation without expensive humidity sensor calibrations. A 6-character alphanumeric LCD display indicates the concentration levels, alarm messages, and system diagnostics. Sample points sample from a distance of up to 500 feet. The watertight enclosure protects the monitor from water. The SAM-I MAX features one sample point, while the SAM-IV MAX has four sample points. A transparent window allows the operator to view the display without compromising system stability. itor with MAXimum ABILILTY. Zero Filter Sample Ports /" or 5 /6" Diameter Bolts for Mounting INSTALLATION TIPS Correct measurement of the refrigerant concentration in a given area requires proper installation of the SAM-MAX and the proper placement of its sampling point(s). Here are some general guidelines: 7 /2 inches.5 cm 6 inches 0.6 cm SAM MAX 2 inches 30.5 cm 3 /2 inches 3.3 cm The SAM-MAX monitor should be rigidly mounted indoors on a wall or rack so that its display is readily visible and the unit is easily accessible for servicing. Sampling tubes can extend up to 500 feet from the monitor. Locate them 2 8 inches above the floor in an area where refrigerant vapors are most likely to concentrate. Most refrigerant gases are heavier than air and tend to accumulate near the floor and especially in areas such as pits and stairwells. Large pits and stairwells should be wellventilated and monitored separately. RS-22, RS-85, or RS-232 Momentary Switch Meter Meter Meter Meter 20 ma Output TXD RCD Ground Alarm Reset Port Port 3 Port 2 Port Alarm Contacts Low Level Alarm Normally Open Level Selectable Mid Level Alarm Normally Open Level Selectable High Level Alarm Normally Open Level Selectable Malfunction Alarm Normally Closed Ground Mounting and wiring diagrams demonstrate the easy installation of the SAM-MAX. Chiller equipment configuration is important in selecting sampling points. In general, if there is only one chiller, monitor at its perimeter. For two or more chillers, monitor between each one. Consider airflow patterns and activity levels when positioning sampling tubes. Hardwire alarm contacts to audible or visual alarms, equipment room ventilation systems, and/or Building Management Systems (BMS). These are just a few recommended guidelines. For complete details and requirements, consult local building codes, ASHRAE 5-9 and EPA 608 standards, the SAM-MAX Monitor Operator s Manual, and your OI Analytical representative.
SAM-MAX Accessories Calibration Kit The Calibration Kit is used to calibrate the SAM-MAX in about three minutes! Kit includes a regulator, connection fittings, zero air canister, and calibration gas standard packaged in a convenient carrying case. Expansion Module Multipoint Expansion Modules expand the SAM-MAX s sampling capabilities up to points per monitor and can be easily installed on-site. When additional chillers are added or additional sample points are needed, the expansion module provides a convenient, and cost-effective solution to meet your needs. Alarm Horn and Beacon Alarm horn and beacon provide audible and visual notification of an alarm condition or a system malfunction. Remote Alarm Panel Provides visual monitoring of the alarm status and a remote reset for the alarms. Remote Digital Display Allows a single port to be monitored from a convenient remote location. Sample Heater Assembly Controls the temperature of the sample air before it enters the SAM-MAX which is perfect for applications where sample air is below 50 F. Filter Package Refills Zero filter and particulate filter package refills are available for easy routine maintenance. Windows-based Software User-friendly software enables remote control of the monitor parameters.
