(2 stairways for 4 and above floors above ground) Are travel distances from the rooms within bounds 16m for single escape routes; 32m for more than one escape route Are there any additional protection of escape routes such as: Are fire doors present on corridors? Are fire doors present to protect stairways? Are bedroom doors self-closing? Do bedroom doors have intumescent strips? ACTIONS TAKEN/TO BE TAKEN: If fire prevents your escape, group members are to stay in their rooms, close the door and seal the door with wet towels to prevent the spread of smoke and call for help from the bedroom window

Means of Escape Continued CORRIDORS; LIGHTING; SIGNAGE; EXITS by inadequate means of escape Are there evacuation plans on bedroom doors? Are escape route signs present in corridors and stairways? Is there emergency lighting present or are escape route signs lit? Are there obstacles obstructing corridors and escape routes? Are lifts marked do not use in case of fire in English Do final exit doors open? Where is the external assembly point? ACTIONS TAKEN/TO BE TAKEN: Are means of escape SUFFICIENT?

Fire Fighting by a small fire getting out of control USE OF FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT BY MEMBERS OF SNOWTRAXX GROUPS IS NOT RECOMMENDED Group members can choose to use fire fighting equipment if they feel that there is a chance of extinguishing a small fire such as that in a waste paper bin and so preventing its spread. Is some fire fighting equipment present? Hose reels or fire extinguishers or both? Do fire extinguishers have a label showing last check to be less than 1 year ACTIONS TAKEN/TO BE TAKEN:- Is there SUFFICIENT fire fighting equipment?

General Safety Apartments: Risk of injury from misuse of cooking equipment ALL but especially students Apartments not to be used where possible Equipment to be disconnected if possible Responsible group members to be accommodated in the apartments and warned not to use cooking equipment and warned of the dangers of doing so Bedroom safety: Risk of intrusion ALL but especially young children Are all bedroom doors lockable? N.B. Party leader to provide keys to children at his/her discretion Is the main reception door locked at night? Is reception manned at night? Risk of falling from windows ALL Do bedroom windows have restricted opening? If not are windows higher than 900mm from floor Balconies: Risk of falling ALL Are rails 900mm high and less than 150mm wide? Are there clear depth markings? Swimming pool: Risk of drowning Risk of falling/slipping ALL Is the pool in good condition? Is the perimeter non-slip? YES/ NO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / ACTIONS TAKEN/TO BE TAKEN: Are the general safety risks REASONABLE?
