PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT Athletic Facilities Needs Assessment Fiscal Year 2014 PROPOSED

Needs Assessment Index 1. Andrew s Fields located at Margate Middle School pg. 2 2. Firefighters Park pg. 3 3. Oriole Park.... pg. 4 4. Southeast Park. pg. 5 5. Sports Complex... pg. 6 6. Vinson Fields. pg. 7 1 P age

ANDREW S FIELDS LOCATED AT MARGATE MIDDLE SCHOOL 1. A new paved walkway from the parking lot to the fields: Current walkway does not connect to the parking lot, and park users must walk through grass and clay to go to and from the parking lot. 2. A renovated concession building and restrooms: Current Concession Building is not being used by any organization. Restrooms need updated toilets, faucets, sinks, mirrors, partitions, and a more modern look. 3. Paved Spectator Areas with Shade Canopy: Current spectator area has no pavement and it creates a muddy area when we experience rain. 1. Additional Drainage Structures: Engineer drawings to create a parking area on the East side of the park. Parents & Players have to walk approximately 500 to get to field no. 2. 2. Perimeter Berm along the North End of the property: This will prevent orange clay from washing out into private property, and public roadways. 2 P age

FIREFIGHTER S PARK BASKETBALL COURTS 1. Adjustable Basketball Goals: Current Basketball goals are permanently positioned at a 10 height. The league currently uses a portable goal that attaches to the permanent goal. If we had an adjustable goal system we could lower the height of the goals according to the age group that is playing. 1. Additional Full Basketball Courts: Our 340 player basketball league, conducts all league practices and games on two (2) full basketball courts. With this amount of players enrolled in the league we are maxed out in scheduling games. 2. Additional Parking spaces: The Park has a total of 115 parking spaces, and we have experienced an increase in park users, creating a need for public parking as well as league parking. 3 P age

ORIOLE PARK 1. A renovated concession building and restrooms: Current Concession Building is being used by Margate Youth Baseball. Restrooms need updated toilets, faucets, sinks, mirrors, partitions, and a more modern look. 2. Paved Spectator Areas with Shade Canopy: Current spectator area has no pavement and it creates a muddy area when we experience rain. 1. Expansion of Fields: Baseball League is in need of additional fields, and eliminating the playground from the park would allow for additional T-Ball Field(s) on the North End of the Park. 2. Additional Parking: Directly linked to priority two need (1), if additional fields are created then additional parking will be required. 4 P age

SOUTHEAST PARK 1. Securing the Facility after hours: The Fields are being damaged by unauthorized users, and it is creating a hardship for City maintenance, and League operations. An eight foot (8 ) perimeter vinyl coated fence is recommended to secure the facility. 2. A renovated concession building and restrooms: Current Concession Building is being used by Margate Youth Soccer. Restrooms need updated toilets, faucets, sinks, mirrors, partitions, and a more modern look. Possible demolition and relocation of the facility to a more centralized location of the park, if feasible. 1. Artificial Turf Fields: The current fields need to be closed for field maintenance on an annual basis. Installing artificial turf fields will allow for year round field use for the league, and for the public. 2. Additional Parking: Additional Parking is needed for this site; however lack of land prevents future expansion for parking needs. 5 P age

SPORTS COMPLEX 1. Spectator Shade: The current facility has limited shade coverage over the spectator areas. A permanent installation of manufactured fabric shade canopies will meet the needs of the spectators. 2. Updated Restroom Amenities: Restrooms need updated toilets, faucets, sinks, mirrors, partitions, and a more modern look 1. Renovate Batting Cages: Current Batting Cages are secured with metal fencing material creating a ricochet hazard. Need to replace with nylon netting for the safety of all users. 2. New Scoreboards: Current Scoreboards are old, and have become a maintenance issue. A new scoreboard with Bluetooth technology to run the scoreboard from a smart phone/tablet. Unfortunately, Bluetooth technology does not currently exist for outdoor scoreboards. 6 P age

VINSON FIELDS 1. A renovated concession building and restrooms: Current Concession Building is being used by Margate Youth Baseball. Restrooms need updated toilets, faucets, sinks, mirrors, partitions, and a more modern look. 2. Spectator Shade: The current facility has no shade coverage over the spectator areas. A permanent installation of manufactured fabric shade canopies will meet the needs of the spectators. 1. Renovate Batting Cages: Current Batting Cages are secured with metal fencing material creating a ricochet hazard. Need to replace with nylon netting for the safety of all users. 7 P age
