IKEA PS 2017 Limited Edition Furniture for Those Who Are Independent and Love Freedom Alam Sutera, Tangerang, February 24, 2017 IKEA collaborates with 17 designers from around the world to create more than 50 products including limited edition items in a collection called IKEA PS 2017, bringing up a theme called Live It. The concept behind IKEA PS 2017 limited collection is not about making the most of what you have, it is about choosing things that let you make the most out of life. You should be able to pick and move things around from one room to another with ease, or even from one home to another. IKEA PS 2017 products were designed for those who are independent, energetic, spirited, love freedom and being flexible, and those who choose to leave behind conventional lives and look forward to a dynamic urban living. There is no right or wrong in using IKEA PS 2017 collection items. You are being asked to make a bold decision, different from the ordinary, and feel the real life. The IKEA PS 2017 products were designed with freedom in mind. One example from the IKEA PS 2017 collection is a storage made of foldable metal plate designed by Nike Karlsson. The idea for the craft came when the designer visited a factory and saw a metal plate that can be folded. He was inspired by it to make a storage that can be folded, thus eliminating the need for nut and bolt, or screws. A storage that is flat packed and can be transformed into a storage box in just a couple of minutes. The other unique item is a wearable blanket just like a jacket designed by Hanna Dalrot. The idea behind this piece came from Hanna s visit to a factory in China where she saw a quilt with soft stuffing inside. From there she designed a blanket added with zippers to look in overall like a jacket. An interesting story also comes from IKEA PS 2017 s foldable coffee table designed by Jon Karlsson. The coffee table inspiration came from Asian roadside restaurants that pop out of nowhere in the evening and disappear by morning. To succeed with this magic trick, Jon decided to design a table that s as easy to set up as to put away. 139620 1
Some of the IKEA PS 2017 limited edition collection Side table I have drawn so many trays and got the idea to stick two trays together and made side tables of different shapes and sizes. This IKEA PS 2017 side table can be used as a stool too. Designer Jon Karlsson 2-seat sofa, foldable If you live in a small space it can be practical with furniture that s easy to take out when needed. The idea for IKEA PS 2017 foldable sofa came from the same idea as the foldable table in this collection. How can I use the foldable function of outdoor furniture for indoor furniture? Designer Jon Karlsson Valet stand When I wake up in the morning, I want my clothes and all the other things I need to be in the same place. It makes the morning more enjoyable and less stressful. The IKEA PS 2017 Valet Stand has an almost human form with one arm stretched out to hold your clothes and a dish where you can put your phone and wallet. Designer Gustav Carlberg 2
Armchair, foldable The idea for IKEA PS 2017 foldable armchair came from the same idea as the foldable table in this collection. How can I use the foldable function of outdoor furniture for indoor furniture? The challenge was achieving comfort, while keeping the simplicity. Designer Jon Karlsson Room divider I chose to make the divider look like an accordion in felt. The material is lightweight and sound-absorbing. And the design makes the divider stable while forcing the sound to bounce around, which absorbs even more sound. Designer Mikael Axelsson Rug, low pile We wanted to create a pattern that captures nature s calmness. The same smooth movements created in long grass when a light wind blows. The special thing about the pattern on the IKEA PS 2017 rug is the shades and depth in the low piles. Designers Kate Booy & Joel Booy 3-piece self-watering plant pot set I m one of those who never manages to take care of my plants. Every time I come home after a trip, all I see is unhappy plants and brown leaves. I finally decided to find a solution, and started looking for the best material for the job. Designer Iina Vuorivirta 3
Table lamp, floor lamp I wanted to create lamps that could blend in and become part of the room. My main focus was to find a flow of light that could light up without blinding people. The design of the table lamp, which you can also hang on the wall, and floor lamp in the IKEA PS 2017 series was inspired by old military searchlights. Designer Ola Wihlborg Corner easy chair A simple, light frame with a mesh of metal that fits in a flat package. Basically it s a modern piece of everyday furniture that you can personalise with lots of pillows. And if you want a sofa, you can buy two. Designers Kate Booy & Joel Booy Shelving unit I love creating new products on the factory floor. Being able to actually touch the material and understand the production really makes the entire job that much more enjoyable. The idea for the IKEA PS 2017 book shelf just came to me. A simple, basic shelf where you can put things you love. Designer Thomas Sandell Mug with lid I wanted to make a simple mug, the kind that you really want to take everywhere. So I drew inspiration from regular paper take-away mugs and use the benefits to create a mug that s kinder to our environment. Designer Iina Vuorivirta 4
Side table on castors I love creating new products on the factory floor. Being able to actually touch the material and understand the production really makes the entire job that much more enjoyable. The IKEA PS 2017 side table on wheels is the result of just such a journey. A movable coffee table you can use in many different places. Designer Thomas Sandell Seat/floor pad I m inspired by the sleeping mats that most of us use when we go hiking or camping. The IKEA PS 2017 seat/floor pad is easy to carry on your journey through life. You can have it as a comfortable pad at home sit, sleep, play or work on it. Designer Paulin Machado 5
