Project Summary BACKGROUND: The Natural Resource Commission for the Village of Glenview seeks approval for the installation of public information signage at various green sites throughout the Village. The signs would provide additional information about the various green infrastructure projects at each site. The Village is proposing to install seven signs of various sizes and prints. The signs will be mounted behind clear acrylic and installed in red cedar frames. The signs are to be protected from the elements through the use of moldings and clear silicone sealant. Appearance Commission Review APPEARANCE PLAN COMMENTS: Staff comments after evaluating the proposal for compliance with the Appearance Plan: Sign Criteria from Appearance Plan: Compatibility with building architecture Compatibility with signs on adjoining buildings Harmony with surrounding landscape Good scale in relationship to surroundings Use of harmonious colors Staff comments: o The applicant should provide clarification on the manner in which signs located away from the sidewalks or accessible routes may be accessed. o The petitioner shall furnish material and color samples of all proposed signage for review by the Appearance Commission. POTENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD IMPACTS: The proposed signage is for educational purposes at green infrastructure sites. The signs are pedestrian oriented and will not be visible to drivers or adjacent properties. As such, there are no anticipated negative impacts on surrounding property owners. 9
