LAMANDAU RIVER WILDLIFE RESERVE Lamandau River Reserve Lamandau River Wildlife Reserve is protected because of the large variety of interesting species in the area, including orangutans. Much of the area has been cleared by fires for many years because of farming and by deer hunting activity. The FNPF camp is located in a remote area far from any village, so we do not have much activity with the local community. We focus on forest regeneration by tree planting and forest fire monitoring / protection. This site is about 4-6 hours away from the airport. There is an additional travel cost to go to Lamandau of approx. USD$200 each way per car (which can fit up to 5 persons), or USD$50 each way by motorbike. ACTIVITIES We plant trees in a corridor to connect remaining patches of forest to another and enable wildlife to travel. And we enlarge the size of the remaining forest by planting trees around the forest with 1 x1 m distance with length max 100 m from the last tree on the forest. Tree planting can only be done during the rainy season Work in our tree seedling nursery can is all year around Collect seed and seedling from remaining forest Air grafting for certain species that hard to get from seed Watering Weeding Putting polybag with dirt Making compost Weeding and mulching early dry season till the end of dry season Fire patrolling and fire fighting mid of dry season until rainy season.
