Our Little Book of Rules

This is a little book of reminders on how to keep Berewood looking beautiful. www.berewood-hampshire.co.uk 3

1 Keeping your community looking its best Berewood has been thoughtfully designed to be an attractive and uplifting place to live. The architects and landscape designers have done their bit. Now it s up to you. As well as feeling a sense of pride in the everyday upkeep and tidiness of your home and garden, we d like you to be aware of the following rules, created to keep Berewood looking beautiful now and for years to come. 4 5

FENCES, WALLS, SCREENS & HEDGES We all desire privacy, but please don t put up any fence, screen, wall, hedge or other structure on any front or side boundary of your property that faces a road. GARDENS Your garden is a place to relax, play and enjoy nature. Any un-built part of the front of your property should only ever be used in the way that a garden was intended. Of course, this excludes your designated garage, drive or parking space. WINDOW BOXES Unfortunately, we don t allow the erection of window boxes on your home, except in a place where it s not visible from an adjacent estate road. 6 7

TREES & SHRUBS Beautiful trees and shrubs have been planted to enrich Berewood s outdoor environment. Please don t cut down or damage any tree or shrub that was planted as part of the initial landscaping. It s also required that homeowners prune, tend and replace their property s trees and shrubs when necessary. AERIALS & DISHES When installing a TV satellite service, please make the provider aware that the dish must be erected on the rear or side of your home (except where the side of your house faces an estate road). Standard TV aerials should be installed within the roof space. 8 9

WASHING Drying washing in the fresh air is an admirable thing to do, but please don t hang it in front of your property. BINS Rubbish bins belong in the designated areas. The only time they should be visible from the road is on a collection day. 10 1

DECALS & DECORATIONS Please refrain from adding decals and decorations to the front of your property. We love Christmas as much as the next person, however please be considerate to your neighbours and others by erecting and removing decorations within a reasonable time frame around the festive period. SIGNS & ADVERTISEMENTS Signage creates visual pollution. Please don t display any advertisement, sign, placard or hoarding of any kind, either on your property or the boundary wall or fence. Of course, a neat notice board advertising the property for sale or let is allowed. VEHICLES & PARKING Berewood loves considerate parkers, so please don t obstruct common driveways, common footpaths or any of the estate roads with any vehicle. We would hate to have to paint yellow lines on our roads. There are certain vehicles that must never be parked on your property or any part of the Berewood estate, including its roads. They are; heavy goods vehicles, commercial vehicles, caravans, boat trailers or any other similar type of vehicle. 12 13

2 Be considerate to your neighbours Berewood is more than a collection of properties; it s a community. A harmonious community relies on the mutual consideration and respect of all its neighbours. Of course, your home is your private domain, but please be aware of how your actions could impact on others. Let s make Berewood a peaceful, wholesome and cooperative place. 14 15

PETS Pets are a welcome addition to any home and community, but please limit the number of domestic pets in your home to three (unless you have prior consent). Please don t let your pets become the cause of nuisance to your neighbours or the environment. Everyone knows that dog fouling in public places is a hazard to health and is unpleasant to tread in! Therefore please pick up after your pets and ensure our pavements and public areas are a safe and pleasant place for us to walk and relax. OTHER ANIMALS Other than keeping domestic pets (see previous page), please don t use your house, garden or garage for the keeping or breeding of birds or animals. If you re unsure which animals we regard as domestic pets, please get in touch. Meanwhile, here s a good rule of thumb: If it has hooves, it s probably not a pet. 16 17

COMMERCIAL USE Your property s sole purpose is to provide you and your family with a beautiful and comfortable home. Please don t use your house, garden or garage for any trade, business (except office work) or manufacture. This includes any vehicle maintenance carried out on a commercial basis. INAPPROPRIATE USE We don t like to bring it up, but we have to tell you not to use, or allow anyone else to use, your house, garden or garage for anything illegal, immoral or improper. Essentially, don t do anything which could create a nuisance, danger, damage or disturbance to your neighbours or the environment. 18 19

GENERAL NUISANCES Potentially annoying things like noise, music, flashing lights, fumes and smells are common causes of upset to neighbours. Please make every effort to ensure that your property is not the source of such nuisances. SPILLAGES Please keep Berewood s paths, roads and driveways clear and clean. If you happen to spoil one with anything obstructive, unsightly or unsavoury, please clear it up as soon as possible. 20 21

3 Your community At Berewood, we want to create connected safe and walkable neighbourhoods that foster a strong sense of community. As your community grows, schools, a town park with community hub & sports facilities, children s day nursery, pub and several local shops will be introduced onsite. It s all about nurturing a sustainable urban village feel on the edge of Waterlooville. 22 23
