That statement applies to employees as well as all machines and systems involved. This approach is the only way to ensure that contaminated food products, cosmetics or drugs do not enter the market. That is particularly important for certain branches of industry, such as the beverage and food industry as well as the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. Often, regulations stipulate a completely germ-free environment. The drive solutions used in such production areas have often seriously impaired the necessary cleaning processes of the production system. Standard motors often come equipped with cooling fins and fans in which dirt can accumulate and germs and bacteria may be distributed via air turbulences. It may also be impossible to remove the dirt completely due to poor accessibility of the drive components within the system. Another problem occurs if the drive components are not resistant to the aggressive cleansing agents and disinfectants: The surfaces may be damaged (such as paint damages) and it may not be possible to maintain the hygienic guidelines.

6 Motors of the DAS series Motors of the DAS series The motors of the DAS series are not equipped with fans, which prevents a distribution of germs by air circulations. They are available in three motor sizes of types DAS80, DAS90 and DAS100 that can be mounted directly to helical, parallel shaft helical, helical-bevel, helical-worm or SPIROPLAN gear units. The smooth surface of the motors of the DAS series makes for easy cleaning. This design prevents the accumulation of dirt and almost completely prevents the formation of germs or bacteria. 9 The ASEPTIC plus drive package The ASEPTIC plus drive package for the gearmotor (DAS series) offers a high degree of protection against corrosion as well as aggressive cleansing agents and disinfectants. In addition to the highquality material used for bolts, oil seals and output shafts, the drives are completely protected by the OS4 surface protection coating. SEW-EURODRIVE had the resistance of the OS4 surface protection coating tested and certified for those cleansing agents and disinfectants customary in the different branches of industry. Such a coating meets the high requirements made on a hygienic environment. It also dramatically increases the service life of the operated drives and the availability of the entire system.
