SECTION 15501 WET AUTOMATIC FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEMS PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 SUMMARY A. Section Includes: Wet automatic fire sprinkler systems including fire pump, fire pump controller, alarms, safety devices, piping, sprinklers and related accessories, sized and spaced for light hazard occupancy and ordinary hazard occupancy. B. Related Sections: 1. 2. 15047 - Identification. 15330 - Automatic Sprinkler Piping. 3. 15410 - Piping (Plumbing). 1.02 SUBMITTALS A. Submit properly identified manufacturer's data and Shop Drawings for acceptance before starting work. 1. Available water flow, pressure calculations, and Shop Drawings. 1.03 DRAWINGS A. The intent of the drawings is to provide the fire sprinkler installer a framework for pricing and hydraulic calculations. 1.04 FINAL SIZING A. After final sizing is accepted by A/E and other authorities having jurisdiction, contract price will be adjusted due to oversizing or undersizing of original engineering drawings. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 MANUFACTURERS A. Sprinkler Heads: Grinnell "Duraspeed", Reliable Model F, or accepted equivalent. B. Horizontal Fire Pump: Peerless Model 6AF13 or accepted equivalent. Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES 15501-1

C. Jockey Pump: Peerless Model JG5E or approved equivalent. 2.02 EQUIPMENT A. Piping: 1. Provide piping and fittings of correct weight, size, and type according to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 13, 14, and 15. a. Use American Standard fittings for pressure involved, but with not less than 175 lbs. WOG nonstick working pressure. 2. Hanger and Supports: Adjustable type sized according to NFPA requirements. B. Sleeves: Per NFPA regulations. C. Valves: 1. Control Valves: a. Accepted O.S.& Y. gate valves suitable for 175 lbs., minimum working pressure. b. Size: 1-1/2" and larger shall be flanged type. 2. Valve Directory: Plastic laminated on solid backing, giving number, location, and function of each valve. a. Where it is necessary to operate more than 1 valve to control a section of piping, note this fact and show the number of second valve on directory. 3. Inspector's Test Connections: One test pipe and valve connection of not less than 1 inch diameter, terminating in a smooth bore, 1/2" brass outlet, discharging through a suitable air gap connection to sanitary collection system. D. Sprinkler Heads: 1. High temperature automatic type with fusible elements and low velocity, wide angle "water spray" discharge. 2. Provide accepted heads as follows: a. Unfinished Areas: Pendent sprinklers with standard finish and polished brass escutcheon plates. b. Finished Suspended Ceiling Areas: Chrome plated, Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES 15501-2

flush type, sprinkler heads. c. Wall mounted sprinkler heads. 3. Metal Cabinet: E. Pumps: a. Provide with 12 extra automatic sprinkler heads, in proportionate quantity of each temperature range and type installed. b. Provide 2 sprinkler wrenches and water flow stoppers suitable for interrupting sprinkler head discharge. c. Provide 1 water flow stopper of the short type and other with long handle. 1. Fire Pumps and Controller: a. UL listed, FM approved, horizontal fire pump, 60 HP, 480/3/60 electric service, 1760 rpm with a capacity of 1000 gmp against a total dynamic head of 162 TDH with an estimated minimum city suction pressure of 80 TDH. b. Automatic electric motor controller, floor mounted, UL listed, FM approved, specifically built for fire pump service and designed for primary resistor reduced voltage start with a minimum interrupting capacity rating of 50,000 amps. 2. Jockey Pump: a. 3460 rpm, 480/3/60 electric service, with a capacity of 10 gpm against a total dynamic head of 200 TDH. b. Provide 1 jockey pump controller with running period timer. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION A. Install system according to NFPA 13 "Standards for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems". 1. Place main piping with minimum 12 inch clearance between other mechanical and electrical services. 2. Branch piping shall clear light fixtures by at least 6 inches. 3. Where automatic sprinkler protection is indicated for Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES 15501-3

suspended ceiling, install piping above ceiling with sprinkler heads installed below ceiling in pendant position. B. Flush fire mains with clean water in the presence of A/E until clean and accepted. 1. Maintain a flow of 7 feet per second velocity for a period of time consistent with length of pipe to accomplish flushing. C. Sleeves: 1. Provide square ends projecting 2 inches above floor for sleeves through floors. 2. Make sleeves passing through walls or beams flush with adjacent sides. 3. Provide flashing for sleeves passing through roof. 4. Make sleeves watertight (where required) by caulking space between pipe and sleeve. D. All work shall be done by experienced mechanics. E. Provide escutcheons on both side of piping in partitions, ceilings, and floors. F. Install piping to allow freedom of movement during expansion and contraction operations, without causing warping, by using expansion joints and pipe loops. G. Offset piping as necessary to avoid interference with other work and to maintain headroom. 1. Provide proper drain and drip where necessary. H. Run pipe in the most direct, straight mechanical manner and properly graded. I. Identification: Identify piping, valves, and specialties as specified under Section 15047. J. Caps and Plugs: Keep openings closed during construction with cast-iron or malleable caps, plugs, or blind flanges. K. Pipe Anchors: Provide anchors to support risers, to maintain pipes in position, and to properly regulate expansion. L. Valves: Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES 15501-4

1. Control Valves: a. Place valves in readily accessible locations or with suitable means of access. b. Seal gate valves in open position with riveted straps or wire and lead seals designed for this purpose. 2. Alarm Valves, Variable Pressure: a.
