Advantages of a leak detection van Improving work efficiency An important advantage of a leak detection van is that you always have all necessary instruments available in the field. Time is no er wasted by searching and collecting the required leak detection instrumentation before being able to start work. Instead, the instruments are permanently stored inside the van. Due to the possibility of charging the instruments whilst they are placed in the van, one is sure that everything is always charged and ready for use. Analysing data in the field Another decisive advantage of a leak detection van is the ability to analyse data directly in the field, which saves the user an enormous amount of time. With conventional methods, the evaluaton of recorded data is possible only after returning to the office. With the air-conditioned office compartment of the van, the user now has all amenities of a mobile office: enough space to comfortably study water network maps, evaluate measurement data and plan the next work steps. Protecting leak detection instruments The professional storage options inside the van help protect equipment from damage during transport and pro the life-time of the instruments. Furthermore, the danger of losing small accessories, such as connection magnets or antennas, is minimised by always storing them in the same place. Providing a secure working environment It is essential to provide a secure working environment for the leak detection team. Searching for leaks at night or next to heavily trafficked roads requires extra protection of the work force. The van s office compartment allows data evaluation in a safe environment. Furthermore, the high visibility of the van draws attention to drivers that work is being carried out
General features All SebaKMT leak detection vans have three fully separated compartments: driver, office (middle section), and equipment compartment (rear section). This transforms the vans into real mobile leak detection departments. The vans have heat-insulated walls and ceilings for an improved working environment. Wooden flooring with robust PVC covering ensures that the floor of the van is ready for sustained heavy use. Office compartment The office compartment of the leak detection van is separated by a partition wall from both the driver s cabin and the equipment compartment. An L-shaped desk and a bolted swivel chair are fitted into the compartment so that it has all amenities of a normal office and work in the field can be carried out under excellent labour conditions. The inbuilt aluminium shelves give ample room for storing all items needed in an office. If a pressure and flow monitoring circuit has been built into the van, then all measurement data can be sent directly to the office compartment via radio communication. Equipment compartment The entire equipment compartment is made of washable and robust material. High-quality aluminium shelving provides sufficient room for all leak detection equipment. Power plugs are available so that instruments can be charged whilst stored in the equipment compartment. The extra lighting that is built into the van ensures that there is always enough light available.
Optional features Inbuilt pressure and flow monitoring circuit A water circuit equipped with a flow meter and a pressure gauge is built into the van. Water from the network can then be diverted through the circuit enabling the measurement of pressure and flow in the field. The rear doors of the van have openings so that hoses can be attached from a hydrant to the water circuit without having to keep the doors open. In this way overnight measurements (e.g. minimum night flow) can be performed without security concerns, because the van is completely closed. All measured pressure and flow data is stored in a data logger that can be read-out from the office compartment via radio communication. Power management system The power management system is recommended for vans with an inbuilt water circuit so that measurements of flow and pressure in the field can be performed without power problems. The rechargeable batteries of the system are automatically charged when the van is in motion. The system supplies power to all leak detection instruments, the equipment in the office compartment and the lights in the van. Inbuilt pressure and flow monitoring circuit with booster pump In areas of the water network with low pressure it can be difficult to detect leaks. A water circuit with inbuilt booster pump can solve this problem by temporarily increasing the pressure in the network. Thereby leaks become louder and easier to detect using acoustic instruments, such as correlators and ground microphones. Power generator options If the inbuilt water circuit is equipped with a booster pump then an underfloor generator is needed to supply enough power. For a van without booster pump a normal inbuilt generator is sufficient.
