a program supported by the transforming neighborhoods initiative

Mission To improve and beautify the neighborhood through comprehensive façade and landscape improvements. Program The Kentland/Palmer Park TNI Home Restoration Façade Improvement Program provided up to $12,000 in grants to 25 income-qualified homeowners. Eligible homeowners must earn 80% or less of area median income, live in their home as their primary residence, be current on their mortgage and property taxes, and be located on one of the three designated streets: East Lombard, East Kilmer, and East East Inwood. In addition to the Kentland/Palmer Park TNI grant funds, the program leveraged the Prince George s County Raincheck Rebate program. Homeowners could receive up to $4,000 for eligible stormwater management features such as the installation of rain barrels, planting of native trees, removal of concrete, and the installation of permeable pavers for walks and driveways. In all, Phase I leveraged almost $40,000 in Raincheck rebates. More importantly, participating homes are treating stormwater runoff from over 11,000 square feet of impervious surfaces. The Home Restoration Façade Improvement Program was administered by Housing Initiative Partnership (HIP). HIP is an innovative nonprofit housing developer and counseling agency based in Prince George s County. Contracting services were provided by JD Clark Professional Services, a woman-owned, minority, County-based contractor and Denison Landscaping, a County-based, family-owned business. Additional Investments Habitat for Humanity of Metro Maryland completed weatherization work and minor home repair on four homes, totaling over $40,000 of value. Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCH) has committed $475,000 in Community Legacy funds to purchase six vacant homes in Kentland. The Redevelopment Authority of Prince George s County and the have committed a total of $740,000 to substantially renovate these six homes. Upon completion the homes will be sold to first-time homebuyers. To date, two homes have been purchased and are under renovation: 7108 East Lombard Street and 7108 East Inwood Street. Prince George s County Department of Public Works has invested over $700,000 in infrastructure improvements such as street paving and sidewalk repairs. The Neighborhood Design Center through the Right Tree, Right Place program planted 115 street trees on East Lombard, East Kilmer, and East Inwood Streets.
