It must also ensure tat fire figting and safety equipment can be easily found and operated wen needed. Tis equipment includes (but not exclusively): First aid stations All fire figting equipment and all alarm devices Ligting is required near eac first aid kit, near eac alarm and piece of fire figting equipment, as well as eac sign indicating a fire alarm system. In accordance wit EN 1838, near generally means a distance of no greater tan 2 metres, measured orizontally (tis corresponds wit Distance a in te diagram below). Te required level of illuminance on te equipment is lx measured vertically - i.e. perpendicular to te usual orizontal illuminance measurements on one level. In comparison to te escape route requirement for 1 lx orizontally, different requirements apply in tis situation for te ligt distribution from te safety luminaires, due to te flatter ligt angle of incidence.
