The project purpose is to remove and dispose of existing playground and swings and replace with new equipment in natural colors of green tan and brown, similar to the playground found at Stewart County Park (See Attachment 4). The existing merry-go-round is to remain in its current location. 1.2 Scope of the Project 1.2.1 Project Description The project will include removal and disposal of existing modular equipment and top timber border, (playground, swings and timbers), provide orange barrier fencing around drip line of existing trees adjacent to the play area, provide design and installation of new modular playground equipment (including new swings), topdress play area with provide ADA accessible wood fiber or alternate NuPlay Nugget rubber chips (or approved equal by Dane County Parks) within the playground borders, provide an ADA accessible walkway with railings between play areas, provide new 6 x 6 treated timber edging border (or approved equal by Dane County Parks) to define the play areas, and provide lawn restoration of disturbed areas by spreading shredded topsoil, Madison Parks seed and mulching with
chopped straw. The County will perform the following tasks relating to the project: install 4 vehicle parking stalls and a 6 wide accessible path from parking area to playground. 5.2 Site Preparation and Removal of Existing Equipment Provide and Install a temporary orange barrier fence around the drip line perimeter of existing trees adjacent to play area prior to accessing work site with any equipment. Remove and dispose of existing modular playground equipment and swings and top existing timber border boarders. 5.3 Design of New Playground Equipment Provide a playground design with a dimensioned plan for the proposed modular playground equipment, a list of all play equipment elements, specifications for each piece of equipment, and quantities of new surface and edging material required. The playground shall include a variety of elements to accommodate as many user groups as possible. Users shall be able to access and circulate through the play areas with ease. Photographs or computer generated images of the proposed playground equipment are necessary. Design of playground shall include an ADA accessible walkway with railings, (See Attachment 3) to connect each separate play area. Formatted: Indent: Left: 0" Playground designs must include: * Transfer points that allow disabled persons access to major play elements. * Surfaces and/or pathways within the playground to make all equipment accessible. Surface material may shall be wood fiber or NuPlay Nugget rubber chips (or approved equal by Dane County Parks) that meets safety and ADA accessibility guidelines. * An ADA accessible walkway with railings to connect each play area. * Commercial grade, heavy-duty products. * Accommodation for as many users as possible with the given budget. 5.4 Installation of New Playground Equipment Provide and install new modular playground equipment where indicated. The maximum playground area available to design is within two separate areas and are is approximately 24 x 36, and 32 x 32 (See Attachment 3), however, actual perimeter boundaries are to reflect the minimum fall zone requirements for proposed elements, and minimize any extra play surface area that is not necessary. Equipment shall be durable, low-maintenance, safe, accessible, and shall provide a variety of events. Wooden structures, seesaws, log rolls, rope climbers, and stainless steel slides are not acceptable. The design must include an ADA accessible walkway with railings between play areas to connect them. Manufacturer must have adequate liability insurance.
5.5 Materials and Surface Finishing Provide and install surface and edging materials. Topdress existing wood fiber with new wood fiber Surface materials shall be wood fiber or NuPlay Nugget rubber chips (or approved equal by Dane County Parks) that meets safety and ADA accessibility guidelines. Gravel, sand or bark chip surfaces are not acceptable. Materials shall provide a high degree of quality, safety, longevity, and accessibility. Materials shall be low maintenance. Edging should consist of Install 6 x 6 treated timber border (or approved equal by Dane County Parks) fastened together and anchored with ½ rebar driven a minimum of 36 into the ground, at 8 intervals. Design of surface and edging shall be set at grade so mowers can mow over the edge of the playground without difficulty. When installation of playground, surfacing and edgings is complete, any disturbed lawn areas shall be restored by spreading shredded topsoil, seeding Madison Parks mix at 4 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. and covering with chopped straw mulch. All proposed elements must be free of tripping hazards and a smooth, uniform finish grade of surface material shall be provided upon completion of playground installation. Remove temporary orange barrier fencing upon completion of project.
