He continues his work this week. The Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee met on Tuesday, March 3 rd at GSA Station 35. Senior Staff held their weekly meeting on Tuesday, March 3 rd at Headquarters Station 31. Work continued on the implementation of TeleStaff, the electronic scheduling and management tool, via webinar, on Wednesday, March 4 th. DC Gerber attended the EMS Advisory Committee Finance sub-committee meeting on Wednesday, March 4 th in Newcastle. This Week: Senior Staff will hold their weekly meeting on Tuesday, March 10 th Headquarters Station 31. at The Civil Service Commission will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 10 th at Auburn City Hall. On Tuesday, March 10 th, the Finance Committee and Board of Governance will hold their monthly meetings at Headquarters Station 31. 1
Administrator Robertson will attend the Washington Fire Chiefs Legislative Committee meeting on Wednesday, March 11 th in Olympia. The monthly Command Staff meeting will be held on Thursday, March 12 th at Headquarters Station 31. DC Gerber will attend the Auburn School District Safety Committee meeting on Thursday, March 12 th at ASD Transportation Office. Work continues on the implementation of TeleStaff, the electronic scheduling and management tool, via webinar, on Thursday, March 12 th & Friday, March 13 th. 911 Requests for Services / Customer Service: Residential Fire: (Lakeland Hills) On Monday, March 2 nd at 3:10 p.m., VRFA units with the assistance of East Pierce Fire, South King Fire and Kent Regional Fire were dispatched to a residential fire with reports of fire showing from the 2 nd floor windows. On location VRFA units discovered a two story house that had been evacuated and had fire showing from three windows and melting the side of the house to the east. The crews extended attack lines and quickly brought the primary fire under-control and the exposure issue. Five people living in the home were displaced and will be assisted by a family member. No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Aid Call: (South Auburn) On Tuesday, March 3 rd at 1:12 p.m., firefighters responded to an elderly female that had injured her leg from a fall. Firefighters treated the patient on scene and had her transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC) for further evaluation via private ambulance. Aid Call: (Lea Hill) On Wednesday, March 4 th at 2:13 p.m., firefighters responded to an adult male that had fallen and was complaining of back pain. The patient was evaluated and transported by private ambulance to a local area hospital. Aid Call: (Algona) On Thursday, March 5 th at 2:53 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to assist a female with an unknown illness. Crews quickly assessed the patient and called for King County Medics. Firefighters assisted Medics with treatment and transported the patient to a local hospital. Aid Call: (Pacific) On Friday, March 6 th at 1:20 p.m., firefighters responded to a young adult female patient who was having chest pain. The patient 2
was evaluated and then transported to an area hospital via private ambulance. Car Fire: (Auburn) On Saturday, March 7 th at 4:20 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 400 block of 2 nd NE for a car fire. Firefighters arrived to find a car parked on the side of the road in a residential area and discovered fire in the passenger compartment. Firefighters accessed the inside of the car and put the fire out. Motorcycle Accident: (Lea Hill) On Sunday, March 8 th at 7:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a motorcycle into a guardrail. The adult male patient was evaluated and left at the scene. The scene was turned over to Auburn Police for further investigation. Training Division Activities: Year 2014 2015 Weekly 301 600 Year to Date 3,451 3,235 Entering the last month of the first quarter of 2015 firefighters continue to complete first quarter and annual training requirements. Zone 3 Truck Training: Ladder 31 from the VRFA participated in truck training with other Zone 3 resources at an old Circuit City Building in Tukwila. Crews completed ventilation, victim rescue and other truck operations training during this 4 hour drill. Hazardous Materials Drill: Training continues with technicians from emergency response Zone 3 participating in a White Powder drill. A threatening letter and a white powder is sent to Tukwila City Hall and two employees are exposed to the material when the letter is opened. Haz-mat technicians arrive and work to mitigate the incident with other police agencies. Water Rescue Drill: VRFA swift water rescue technicians participated in a swift water drill on the Cedar River. This drill is designed to allow technicians to practice and maintain required skill sets that help them stay proficient. Fire Marshal s Office: Certified Fire Inspectors completed 10 business safety inspections this week consisting of 7 new inspections and 3 follow-up contacts for previous inspections. 3

Public Education PIEO Tyson attended a final planning meeting for the third annual Washington Safety Summit on March 25 th at the UW Tacoma Campus. PIEO Staff continued scheduling fire and life safety classroom visits in the Auburn School District and private schools in the VRFA service area. PIEO Tyson attended a Washington Public Fire Educators (WPFE) meeting via conference call. PIO duties were performed for a brush fire off of Highway 18 just west of SR 167 and a residential fire in Lakeland Hills. Fire Investigation: There were 3 incidents requiring the services of the Fire Investigation Unit this week. Single family residence fire in Lakeland is still under investigation with no suspicious indicators at this time. Dollar loss is estimated to be near $250,000. American Lighting Fixtures, 295 E Main St, Auburn, Accidental: Electrical fault igniting combustible materials. Multi-family structure in Pacific, Incendiary: Ignitable liquid used to start fire on and near main entry door of second story apartment. Fire spread to interior. Under investigation. Planning and Logistics P&L received seven apparatus and seven facility/small tool maintenance requests. A new, power assisted gurney/lift system was installed in an aid car. This equipment is designed to prevent injuries. An annual septic inspection was performed at Station 33. The inspection is required by the Pierce County Health Department. An annual fire sprinkler system inspection was performed at Station 33. Minor roof repairs were completed at Station 38 and the Lea Hill Support Facility. 5
