Why INDIA needs PLANNING & PLANNERS? Prof. D. S. Meshram, President, ITPI, India refers ACUTE SHORTAGE OF QUALIFIED PLANNING PROFESSIONALS IN INDIA FOR UPCOMING ERA Existing & Upcoming Urban areas in form of SEZ, Townships, High-Tech City, IT City, Knowledge City, Cyber City, Green City, and Smart City create new avenues & opportunities for QUALIFIED PLANNERS Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India stated that a person who is a GOOD ENGINEER, may not be a GOOD PLANNER; similarly person who is a GOOD ARCHITECT, may not be a GOOD PLANNER Spatial Planning and development activities got major boost in India due to liberalization of economy and industrial policies, and emerging globalization trends. Urban population is likely to increase from 377 to 600 million by 2030 and 900 million by 2050 Number of Cities & Towns increase from 5,161 to 7,993 during 2001-11 and 10,000+ by 2021. In 1960, T.J.
