Areas of application The LSG4 alarm unit is used for monitoring industrial systems, e.g. in the following areas: Alarm and hazard stati in production e.g. for monitoring temperature and pressure in reactors e.g. for monitoring motors or floating ring seals with a barrier medium e.g. for monitoring position encoders Level indication e.g. for monitoring gas reserves in cylinders, manifold bundles and tank systems, including in potentially explosive atmospheres e.g. for monitoring drip trays for leaks from tanks Control of heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems e.g. for monitoring temperatures in heating and air conditioning systems e.g. for volume flow monitoring in ventilation systems
Brief description Four pilot current circuits The LSG4 alarm unit has four channels, i.e. four measurement points and is thus capable of monitoring up to four pilot current circuits simultaneously for deviations from normal status. Contacts and/or initiators Contacts, e.g. magnetic spring contacts or proximity switches compliant with DIN 19234 (NAMUR) can be used as detectors. The effective direction of a detector can be set on the working current or closed circuit principle, individually per channel. Visual/audible alarm Malfunctions are indicated optically and audibly on the unit itself, but in addition, they can be transferred to a higher level of ruling panels or on a control system (ZLT, SPC or industrial PC). Transfer is by means of two floating contacts. There is also a facility for lamp and siren tests. Alarm through LED/ Siren Integral power supply The power supply for the detectors is integrated into the LSG4.
Suitable for potentially explosive atmospheres - Zone 1 The LSG4 has been type-tested under ATEX 100A and approved as associated apparatus in category 2 for the connection of primary detectors in the potentially explosive Zone 1 atmosphere. The LSG4 itself is installed outside the potentially explosive atmosphere. Short- and open-circuit monitoring The LSG4 monitores the lead to detectors for short- and open circuits. Front panel suitable for labelling The entire surface of the front panel is covered with a high-quality, spray-resistant polyester film with labelling strips behind it. The four individual alarms can be labelled separately. Example channel 1 Identification of channels Summary The LSG4 combines the functions of an alarm unit four switch amplifiers the entire power supply in one reliable, self-contained instrument.
Method of operation Detectors System status is monitored by floating contacts (e.g. contact manometers and limit switches) or proximity switches compliant with NAMUR (e.g. proximity sensors). A combination of both types of detector can also be connected to an LSG4 and selected by channel using DIP switches. The effective direction of the detectors is set by DIP switches in the unit, either individually on the working current or closed circuit principle or by using closed or open mechanical contacts. The intrinsically safe circuits of the LSG4 detectors provide the power supply for the detectors in the potentially explosive area. - + Initiator 1) 10 K 1 K 1) mechanical mech. Kontakt contact without ohne Kabelüberwachung lead monitoring Example mechanical mech. Kontakt contact with mit Kabelüberwachung lead monitoring L1 N PE (230 V) L1 N PE (230 V) Alarm If a malfunction occurs, the alarm is indicated on the unit by one LED per channel. A buzzer is sounded and must be overridden when any further malfunction (audible new-value signal) occurs. If the override button is held down, a lamp and buzzer test will take place. Two combined signals are available at the output terminals (floating changeover contacts). The first changeover contact will be active for as long as at least one alarm is present. The second changeover contact will be overridden automatically by the buzzer override button on the unit. It will thus be reactivated by every new alarm. The power supply for external detectors must be safeguarded separately.
Lead monitoring Leads to the detectors are monitored for short- and open circuits. Short- and opencircuit alarms are indicated by slow or rapid flashing of the relevant LED and passed on as a combined message. open-circuit (rapid) short-circuit (slow) Explosion protection The LSG4 alarm unit constitutes associated apparatus within the meaning of harmonised European standards EN 50 014 and EN 50 020. The intrinsically safe pilot current circuits are galvanically separated from the mains connection and are suitable for use in potentially explosive zone 1 atmospheres. The LSG4 constitutes electrical equipment in electrical equipment group II(2)G of Directive 94/9/EC, type-tested by a notified body and approved under IBExU 97 ATEX 1031. Additional primary switchgear such as additional ex-isolators and all the necessary structural measures are superfluous. Summary The LSG4 is a cost-effective solution for the detection of malfunctions in a potentially explosive atmosphere and for connecting stored program controllers (SPCs) or process control computers to such an atmosphere.
