Sacramento Public Library Authority February 25, 2016 Agenda Item 3.0: Architecture Plan for New Orangevale Library: Concept Presentation by Group 4 Architecture TO: FROM: RE: Sacramento Public Library Authority Kathy Middleton, Assistant Director Public Services Architecture Plan for New Orangevale Library: Concept Presentation by Group 4 Architecture RECOMMENDED ACTION: None Information only. BACKGROUND Sacramento Public Library is closer to realizing the goal of building a new library in Orangevale. The current library occupies space in a small shopping center on the south side of Greenback Lane, just west of Hazel Avenue and east of Beech Avenue. A parcel for the new library site will be leased from the Orangevale Recreation and Park District, which is located on the 6800 block of Hazel Avenue. The building will be owned by Sacramento County. Sacramento County set aside $750,000 in its Capital Improvement Program Budget to begin the conceptual design phase for the new Orangevale Library. In 2015, the Library completed the community needs assessment, plan of service and the building program. The County contracted with Group 4 Architecture, Research and Planning, Inc. to begin conceptual design documents. A working team made up of members from Sacramento County, Group 4 Architecture and the Library continues to work together to complete the planning phase for the new library. In December 2015 and January 2016, community members were invited to review, discuss and vote on one of two architectural concepts for the new Orangevale Library. A notice also was placed on the Sacramento Public Library website to encourage broad community participation in the process. Full funding for the Orangevale Library construction is not anticipated before fiscal year 2018-19. ATTACHMENT(S): Attachment A: Architectural Plan for Orangevale Library
