LET YOUR HAIR DOWN A time to celebrate, relax, and chill that s what the Exhibitors and Buyers Cocktail Networking Party is all about. Last night, after a second straight day of hard work at the fair, the furniture fraternity gathered to enjoy a good time of socialising over canapes and wine. Opening the event, Mr Ernie Koh, Chairman of IFFS Pte Ltd, thanked exhibitors and buyers for their support. He invited everyone to create new memories together as the team looks forward to crafting a new experience for all next year at Marina Bay Sands. Mr Koh concluded by thanking SUNBRELLA, the exclusive partner for the evening. Mr Alexis Maklakoff, VP International Sales and Global Major Retail from SUNBRELLA, also took the opportunity to address the crowd, encouraging all who were present to enjoy a good time. The IFFS Best Exhibit, Best Stand, and Best Decor Awards were then announced, and winners received their plaques from Mr Jerry Tan, IFFS Board Member, and Mr David Corfmat, International Sales Director, SUNBRELLA. Finally, Square Roots was recognised for its long-standing support over the last decade, and presented with a token of appreciation. 4 SHOW DAILY 3
PORTING OVER TO PORTUGAL The Portugal Pavilion (5C-72) makes its inaugural debut this year at IFFS! Led by the Portuguese Association of Furniture and Related Industries (APIMA), the national pavilion proudly features 9 Portuguese companies. When asked about their decision to partner IFFS, Mr Gaulter Morgado, Executive Director of Project Management at APIMA, shared, We ve seen how IFFS has grown over the years, and believe that it s an excellent platform for us to reach international markets. The move to MBS next year will provide a great opportunity for IFFS to differentiate itself from other shows in the region, and I hope it will attract more diverse participants. Our plan is to bring in more upscale brands and more innovative products at our next showcase. ONE-ON-ONE WITH DESIGNERS Local designers Hunn Wai and Nathan Yong were part of a panel discussion held yesterday about new boundaries and frontiers of the design industry. We caught up with them to learn more about their thoughts on IFFS and their participation in the seminar. HUNN WAI With these talks, IFFS positions itself as an opinion leader. Being a responsible, curious creator myself, I find these kinds of simple, intimate conversations very useful. The discussion added value to what I do, and painted a picture of the future. This can be important for companies trying to stay relevant in the changing industry landscape. NATHAN YONG These conferences are a great way of allowing the audiences to gain short and sharp insights. Of course, they can t take the insights at face value they ll have to go home, have a think about what was shared, and plan how they can apply these insights accordingly. These talks are important and should be cherished, because it s not easy to engage experts like Chantal, or even Giulio, so having them both speak at the same conference well, that was a truly golden opportunity! THE ANCIENT ART OF KIMONO MAKING Ever wondered how kimonos are made? In Japan, a variety of resist dyeing methods are used. Sekka Shibori is a precise, longestablished dye technique that is unique to Kyoto. Sekka is snow flowers in Japanese, while Shibori refers to manual resist dyeing techniques. The event is truly an international platform that brings regions together. This is perfect because it allows us to connect Eastern attendees with those from the West, and vice versa. At booth 3H-32, Treniq showcases a curated selection of rugs from around the globe. The company has also brought a group of exclusive buyers to the show, from Europe, Hong Kong, India, Italy, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom (UK). HOSTED BUYERS SAY... Each year, IFFS hosts numerous groups of buyers from all around the world, allowing exhibitors the opportunity to personally present their offerings to a hand-picked selection of international sourcing decision makers. IFFS 2018 welcomes more than 400 hosted buyers from over 40 countries, and here s what a few of them have to share about their experience. We confirmed orders with a supplier from Turkey and another from Indonesia within the first 2 hours of the show, so I d say that we have been successful so far! We like the high-end, international offerings here, and find many exhibitors who offer a good combination of quality and price. Marion Horgan, HORGANS (Australia) I style high-end residential projects around the world and am most interested in designs from this region that are unique and customisable.
