NEW DRIVE CANOPY C l a y t o n ' s a t C o m m e r c e RECEPTION Located on Evansville's north side, Clayton's Cleaners purchased an existing dry cleaning facility which needed a new image and major renovations. A new drive through canopy was constructed to followed the curvature of the street and incorporate the structure of the existing sign. The existing canopy was enclosed with glazing which formed a two-story space for a new clothing conveyor. New casework was constructed and an alterations desk was added. New washers and dryers were installed to complement floor, ceiling, and wall finishes, and graphics. Synthetic stucco was used to update and coordinate the exterior of the building. A white metal soffit with new lighting provided a fresh look for the canopy. ORIGINAL BUILDING Client: Clayton's Fine Drycleaning Size: 2,350 square feet
Zeidler's floral - Newburgh, Indiana Designed to meet the growth of an expanding tri-state area, Zeidler's reflects the suburban setting of a country store while adjusting to the proximity of an adjacent highway. Facing residential zoning to the rear, the backside of the building blends with its environment; however along the highway, the portico and greenhouse reinforce the flower shop image. Functionally, the layout is simple enough that the store could be operated by only two people; yet, the layout is also well-planned to comfortably accommodate 12 employees GREENHOUSE during seasonal business surges. Along with the flower shop's rich variety of finishing materials, a curving bulkhead directs the consumer to the point-of-purchase. Siting the greenhouse along the north side of the building offers a natural light source that doesn't scorch the flower stock. And, functional planning of the two-way, stock coolers between the garage and arranging areas saves a few cumbersome shipping and handling processes endured by other shops. B i g A p p l e R e t a i l - N e w b u r g h, I N The Big Apple Center derived its name from an orchard adjoining the property and belonging to the same developer. Once a Wall Mart store, the building required a facade that would allow the large space to be parceled into smaller retail stores with their own signs and sense of identity. We created this design by building a canopy onto the front of the building. Color was added by using a red sloped metal roof, and using gray split face masonry block with a red band of glazed masonry block. Synthetic stucco brightened the facade and provided a place for signs. The canopy projects shoppers from the elements as they walk to and from the major retail tenants, passing new storefront windows of smaller retail merchants on their way. H y u n d a i, E v a n s v i l l e, I N PRESENTATION G:\11192014BROCHURE\2002-02438-Hyundai\background2.jpg Working with Hudson Motors of Madisonville, KY, Architecture Plus designed a new Hyundai Dealership for their Evansville location. Because site selection is so critical for an automotive retailer, Architecture Plus worked closely with Woodward Development during the site selection process. Sites were screened for their traffic flow and patterns, the site lines which would feature product displays from the street, and the site's relationship to other automotive dealers. The design evolved into an open concept plan that welcomed the buyer and promoted the cars built by Hyundai. SHOWROOM Client: Hyundai America Size: 11,800 square feet
ADDITION G o l f P l u s - E v a n s v i l l e, I N Golf Plus is located on Evansville's east side. The original store consisted of 5,000 square feet of retail space designed by Architecture Plus. Two years after building this space, the owner returned to us to design an addition of 5,000 square feet which would house a driving range. The challenge was to design a taller addition that would blend seamlessly with the existing one story building. This was achieved by continuing the existing building parapet as a band across the new building and adding the required height to the new addition with clerestory windows. ORIGINAL BUILDING Not only does the building look monolithic, but the clerestory windows flood the space with natural light from the north which produces a glare free space for hitting golf balls. Boston Pizza, Newburgh, Indiana OUTDOOR DINING Located on Evansville's East side, Boston Pizza came to town with a set of drawings and a contractor that had built several of their chain restaurants. They needed an architect that was familiar with local construction to do site visitations, record work progress, and sign off on the contractor's payment applications. We reviewed construction once every week. A report accompanied with photographs was prepared for the client and emailed no later than the following day. FAMILY DINING We also prepared a final "punch list" which indicated work required to finish the project and helped with getting the "certificate of occupancy" from the city. Drawings were developed in order to acquire a liquor license. Client: Boston Pizza, Richmond, BC, Canada Size: 12,000 square feet
