Canal Road City Limits (East of Van Dyke Ave) to Saal Road Construction Update 9/14/2018 The ashalt paving on the southside of Canal Road is expected to start Saturday, September 15 (weather permitting) and will continue over the next 5 7 days. The contractor will start the paving operation at Schoenherr Road, paving west. One-way, westbound traffic will continue to be maintained during operations. Starting on Tuesday, September 18, the contractor will start construction on the southside of Canal Road between Schoenherr Road and Saal Road. During construction, only one-way, eastbound Canal Road traffic will be maintained. Detours will be posted for all westbound Canal Road traffic. Construction Update 8/6/2018 Starting on Wednesday, August 8, the contractor will start construction on the south side of Canal Road between Schoenherr Road and the City limits (west of Malow Avenue). Traffic will be shifted to the newly paved north side of Canal Road. To enable construction, only one-way, westbound Canal Road traffic will continue to be maintained. Detours will continue to be posted for all eastbound Canal Road traffic. During this phase of construction, the contractor will pulverize and pave the southern, eastbound lanes of Canal Road, parking improvements at Benjamin Hadley Park, and improve public walkways. Construction Update 7/26/2018 The paving of the asphalt base course has started today and will continue over the next couple of days (weather permitting). The contractor will be paving the north side of Canal Road starting at Schoenherr Road paving west.
The contractor has also completed the process of cleaning and lining the portion of water main under the M-53 freeway. Once pressure and bacterial testing are completed and approved, the water main will be put back into service. Construction Update 7/12/2018 The installation of the new concrete curb and gutter along the north side of Canal Road has started this week. Replacement of drive approaches and sidewalk are tentantively scheduled to begin on Friday, July 13. The contractor has also started a process to clean and rehabilitate a portion of the aging water main under the M-53 freeway. This process is expected to take about 2-3 weeks to complete and is not expected to disrupt water use.
Construction Update 6/21/2018 Pulverization of the existing pavement on the north side of Canal Road has been completed. The contractor has started to remove and replace the base material in preparation of the new pavement. Temporary flag control may be needed at times to complete this work. Installation of the new curbs and drive approach is tentatively scheduled for the early July.
Construction Update 6/15/2018 Water main and storm sewer are currently being installed and will be complete soon. Earth excavation for lane widenings has started in preparation for pulverization of the existing pavement. Pulverization on the north side of Canal Road is tentatively scheduled for June 20 followed by installation of new concrete curbs, drive approaches and local road intersections. During the paving of new concrete curbs and drive approaches, all homeowners adjacent to the newly placed concrete will not have access to their drives. This work will last approximately two (2) weeks to allow for pavement removal, replacement and cure time. Temporary parking will be provided within the construction area and on the adjacent local roads. Notifications will be hand delivered to your front door, a minimum of 24 hours prior the closure of drive approaches. Only one-way, westbound Canal Road traffic will continue to be maintained between Schoenherr Road and the City limits.
Construction Update 5/29/2018 Utility construction on Canal Road has started today, May 29, to replace the aging public utilities throughout the project limits. Over the next couple of days, this work will be completed under flag control and will maintain two-way traffic. Starting on Thursday, May 31, road construction will begin (weather permitting) on the north side of Canal Road between Schoenherr Road and the City limits (west of Malow Avenue). To enable road construction, only one-way, westbound Canal Road traffic will be maintained. Detours will be posted for all eastbound Canal Road traffic.
