Purpose To safely turn on, operate, and turn off the capper. Scope This procedure applies to any packaging employees. General Requirements The following requirements must be met. Instructions This section contains the instruction(s) associated with this WI.

1. INSTRUCTIONS FOR TURNING CAPPER ON AND OFF: 1.1 To turn the capper on make sure there are no containers in the capper or on the capper conveyor. To Turn the Capper On: 1.2 Move the main power switch to the on position by turning it clockwise. The ON position is straight up on the switch. 1.3 Verify that the air pressure on the gauge is showing a minimum of 80 lbs psi. The capper requires a minimum of 80 psi to operate. Normal air pressure would usually be in the 100-120 psi range. 1.4 Check to be sure the RED round E-stop button is pulled out. Notice the round E-Stop button at the very top of the panel. 1.5 Verify that all doors on all sides of the capping machine are in the closed position and all door contacts are made. All contacts on the six doors must be made for the capper to come on. If the capper will not come on this is the most likely cause. Check all doors and try again. 1.6 Insure that the Bypass switch is in the off position. The bypass switch must be in the off position for normal operation of the capper. 1.7 Press the bottom square GREEN button and the capper may come on but will not stay on. Pressing the bottom square, green button energizes the panel. Once this button is pressed the capper can be turned on.

1.8 Press the top round green button and the capper should come on and stay on. Once the top green button is pressed the capper should come on and be ready to operate. 1.9 Repeat above steps if capper does not come on. 1.10 To turn the capper off make sure there are no containers in the capper or on the capper conveyor. To Turn the Capper Off: 1.11 Press the square RED button at the bottom of the panel. Pressing the square red button will stop capper. Be sure all containers have cleared the capper and capper conveyor before stopping to eliminate the possibility of creating a spill. 1.12 Press in the round RED E-Stop button. 1.13 Move the main power switch to the off position by turning it counter. Controls and Monitoring On the control panel on the left side of the capping machine there are five knobs. Standard settings for startup are as follows: Cap Elevator controls the speed of the elevator that carries caps from the cap bin up to the hopper Hopper controls the speed at which the hopper turns to tumble the caps Plunger controls the speed that the Plunger spins which determines the torque of the cap Timer Holder controls the timer holder arms that cycle and is timed to grab the container. Conveyor No adjustment on this machine. Control Value Capper Elevator 60 Hopper 30

Plunger 35 Timer Holder 0 Conveyor 20 Bypass Switch and Plunger Home Button Attention! The Bypass switch - This should remain in the off position for normal operation. In the event that the capper will not be used to apply caps this button will be moved to the on position. This allows the power conveyor to be used to convey containers through the capper without being capped. Responsibility The Plunger Home button This button can be used if the capper gets out of sync or stuck in the down position. This button cycles the plunger through one cycle and returns it to the home position. Be careful that there are no jugs in the capper as this could cause a spill if the capper is not clear. Roles Responsibilities Senior Management Provide the resources necessary to allow the operator to perform this task. Quality Unit Review and approve that the instructions are adequate. Employees Comply with this Work Instruction. Definitions Term Term1 Term2 Appendix The following terms are used in this document.
