4 Description The Dietrisol TRIO DT 350/3 tank is fitted with 2 heat exchangers per zone for solar heating and one heat exchanger for supplementary heating by means of a fuel oil or gas boiler. The high quality steel tank is lined with food standard quality vitrified enamel, which protects it from corrosion and preserves all the qualities of the domestic water. The tank is also protected from corrosion by two magnesium anodes which must be inspected every 2 years and replaced if necessary. The thermal exchanger welded into the tank is made of smooth piping, the inside of which, which is in contact with the domestic water, is enamelled. The Dietrisol TRIO DT 350/3 tank is fully equipped with a special solar station, which includes a heating device for each zone, safety equipment, expansion chamber, pump, Diemasol B solar regulator, etc. All components are checked for leaks and tested in the factory. The regulator, pump and directional valve are pre-wired. All the fittings with the tank eliminate costly installation time. The tank is strongly insulated with high strength rigid polyurethane foam with no chlorofluorocarbons (CFC), 75 mm thick to minimise heat loss. The outside casing is made of painted steel sheeting. The top and side covers are made of ABS. The insulating material can be easily detached from the tank. A polyethylene film prevents the foam sticking to the tank. This measure facilitates the recycling of materials. 4 TRIO DT 350/3 07/11/06-300001130-001-K

Primary solar water circuit connections Important When switched off, the temperature in the sensors can exceed 150 C. To protect against frost a water-propylene glycol mixture is used as heat transfer fluid. The pressure in the solar circuit can rise to 4 bar maximum. Due to the high temperatures, the use of propylene glycol and the pressure in the primary solar circuit, the primary solar water connections must be made with the utmost care, in particular with regard to insulation and watertightness. The technical recommendations in these instructions MUST be observed. Recommended flow rate Dietrisol PRO flat collectors::_12-40 l/m 2 h Dietrisol POWER tubular solar panels:_12-50 l/m 2 h Safety valve discharge pipe - max. pipe length 2 m - blanking off impossible - DN 20 - fitted with constant slope towards the drain Protection of the environment Place a container of sufficient volume under the drain pipe and the valve discharge pipe. 1 Outlet and return pipes Dimensions To be able to have pipework without degassers or bleed valves at high points, the solar fluid flow rate must not fall below 0.4 m/s during the degassing procedure. Observe the following parameters for this to be possible: Copper pipe Number of panels ø ext. (mm) Dietrisol PRO flat collectors: Max. length outlet (outlet + return) 2 15 or 18 30 3 15 30 Dietrisol POWER tubular solar panels 3 in series 15 or 18 30 4 in series 15 or 18 30 6 in series 15 or 18 30 The pipes must be as short as possible and always sloping downwards between the collectors and the connection to the solar tank. If the installation criteria for good degassing cannot be met, a manual bleed degasser must always be installed at the high point(s) of the solar equipment. Use of a hacksaw is prohibited. Connecting Pipe connections by compression unions. Hard soldering: Hard soldering: hard soldering filler metal without flux in accordance with DIN EN 1044, e.g. L-Ag2P or L-CuP6. Soft soldering are not authorized. The use of flux promotes corrosion conditions in systems operating with propylene glycol as heat transfer fluid. In all cases the inside of the pipes must be flushed. Pipe unions: can only be used if they are resistant to glycol, pressure (4 bar) depending on version) and temperature (180 C, -30 C) (manufacturer's data). Sealing material: hemp or Teflon. Ideal Incorrect (high point with no air vent) Correct (high point with air vent) Location of manual bleed valve degasser 10 TRIO DT 350/3 07/11/06-300001130-001-K

2 Solar Panel Connection Dietrisol PRO flat collectors: Special case The outlet and the return can be connected directly to the risers by using the connection kit. The outlet and return connections are on the same side of the solar collector. Be careful not to reverse the outlet and the return. If the outlet and the return are reversed, the system cannot operate correctly. The sensor must always be installed on the outlet end. For the installation and water connections to the sensors, refer to the instructions supplied with them. Dietrisol POWER tubular solar panels Fit the outlet connection (with immersed sensor socket and manual air vent) to the top right-hand end of the series of collectors. Fit the return connection to the other end. Bring the return pipe towards the outlet from below the collector. The Dietrisol POWER collector does not have a built-in return pipe unlike the Dietrisol PRO flat collector. For the installation and water connections to the sensors, refer to the instructions supplied with them. If for reasons connected with the design of the building the connecting pipes must rise from their mounting point on the solar collector to the point where they pass under the tiles, then it is necessary to insert a degassing pot with a manual bleed valve under the roof at the highest point on the water circuit. Pipe insulation Prefabricated for "Duo-Tube" (Option). If different copper pipes are used, the insulation must be: - Resistant to constant temperatures up to 150 C in the collector zone and the hot outlet and also down to -30 C. - Resistant to UV light and weather in the roof area. - Insulation preferably waterproof and continuous - with a thickness equal to the tube diameter and with a K coefficient of 0.04 W/mK. 50 % reduction of the insulation is permitted when passing through the roof and walls. Recommended materials for temperatures up to 150 C - Duo-Tube De Dietrich - Armaflex HT - mineral wool - glass fibre To protect the insulation against mechanical damage, bird pecking and UV light, add extra protection for the heat insulation sleeves in the roof area by using an aluminium sheet sleeve or aluminium adhesive tape. This additional protection must be sealed with silicone. 07/11/06-300001130-001-K TRIO DT 350/3 11

Hydraulic connection of the water circuit for domestic use These domestic hot water tanks can operate at a maximum operating pressure of 10 bars. As a general rule, the tanks operate at 7 bars. Before making the connection, rinse the domestic water inlet pipes to prevent the introduction of metal or other particles into the DHW tank. The foreign matter would also risk damaging certain components such as the safety unit, valves, tap fittings, etc. Connections must be made in accordance with the instructions of the Société Suisse de l'industrie du Gaz et des Eaux. Any local instructions from water distribution plants must also be respected. Specific precautions Provision for Switzerland Domestic water mixer tap All Dietrisol TRIO hot water tanks are fitted with a domestic water mixer tap on the hot water outlet pipe, with a setting range of 35-60 C. Domestic hot water connection The thermostatic mixer tap does not require any particular maintenance. You are strongly advised to install a dielectric insulation connection between the thermostatic mixer tap (mixed water outlet) and the connection pipe to prevent problems of corrosion. The same applies to the brass T- piece at the cold water inlet. Protection against corrosion on the domestic hot water outlet 28. Domestic cold water inlet 57. Domestic hot water outlet 12 TRIO DT 350/3 07/11/06-300001130-001-K

The components used for the connection to the cold water supply must comply with the prevailing standards and regulations in the country concerned. Fit a non-return valve to the domestic cold water circuit. For France, we recommend hydraulic safety units fitted with a membrane with the NF marking. - Integrate the safety valve in the cold water circuit. - Install the safety valve close to the calorifier in a place which is easy to access. Dimensions Connecting the domestic cold water Safety valve In compliance with the safety rules, fit a sealed safety valve The outlet pipe in the valve or safety unit must not be blocked. to the tank's domestic cold water inlet. France Calibration of the safety valve : 10 bar. The level of the safety unit must be lower than that of the cold water inlet to enable draining. Otherwise, fit a drainage pipe to the lowest point of the tank. Germany Define the dimensions of the safety valve in accordance with the DIN 1988 standard : The safety unit and its connection to the DHW tank must be of at least the same diameter as the cold water supply pipe in the tank's domestic circuit. No isolating devices should be located between the safety valve or unit and the tank. The safety unit outlet pipe must have a uniform and sufficient gradient and its diameter must be at least equal to that of the outlet opening in the safety unit (to prevent the flow of water being hindered if the pressure is too high). Capacity litres Dimension of the valve Min. dimension of the inlet connection Heating output kw max < 200 R or Rp 1/2 75 200 1000 R or Rp 3/4 150 Fit the safety valve above the calorifier to obviate having to drain the tank during servicing. Install the drainage valve at the lowest point on the calorifier. If the supply pressure exceeds 80% of the valve or safety unit setting (e.g. 5.5 bars for a safety unit set at 7 bars), a pressure reducer must be installed upstream of the DHW tank. Install the pressure reducer downstream of the water meter in such a way as to ensure the same pressure in all of the pipes in the installation. During the heating process, water can flow through the bleed circuit to guarantee the safety of the installation. Do not block! To guarantee the availability of hot water as soon as the taps are turned on, a circulation loop between the draw-off points and the recirculation pipes in the DHW tank can be installed. See diagram. Fit a non-return valve to the domestic cold water circuit. If using a closed calorifier, the non-return valve must be easily accessible. Hydraulic connections to the boiler Important notes about connecting the heating circuit and the domestic hot water tank heat exchanger Installation must be carried out in accordance with the prevailing regulations, the codes of practice and the recommendations in these instructions. For a proper operating of the boiler, follow carefully the instructions. Refer to the technical and assembly instructions delivered with the boiler. Before making the heating circuit and domestic hot water tank heat exchanger water connections, it is imperative to flush the circuits to remove any particles which might damage certain components (safety valves, pumps, valves, etc.). There must be no total or partial closing mechanism between the boiler and the safety valves (France: DTU - 65.11, 4.22 - NF P 52-203). The heating system must be designed and constructed in such a way as to prevent the return of water from the heating circuit or the substances in it to the drinking water mains. A disconnector must be installed for filling the heating circuit in accordance with the regulations in force. Be careful to shut off the water in the heat exchanger circuit by means of the stop valves in order to facilitate boiler or tank maintenance operations. Electrical connection 1. Unscrew the 2 lateral holding screws. 2. Open the front cover. 3. Pass the cable through the opening provided (A). 4. Connect the cable to the mains. 5. Close the front cover. 6. Tighten the 2 holding screws. 14 TRIO DT 350/3 07/11/06-300001130-001-K

Commissionning 1 Secondary circuit (domestic water) 1.1 Filling with water Carefully degas the DHW tank and the distribution network in order to eliminate noises and hammering caused by trapped air moving in the pipes during draw-off. To do so: Completely fill the DHW tank via the cold water inlet pipe, leaving the hot water valve open. Only reclose this valve when the flow is regular and there are no noises or hammering in the pipes. Then successively degas all the hot water pipes by opening the corresponding valves. These operations also make it possible to rinse and clean the hot water pipes located at the DHW tank outlet. 1.2 Adjustment Set the domestic hot water thermostatic mixing valve to the required temperature to avoid scalding when running domestic hot water. During the heating process, a certain amount of water may flow through the valve or safety unit; this is caused by water expansion. This phenomenon is completely normal and must in no event be hindered. 2 Primary boiler circuit Refer to the technical and assembly instructions delivered with the boiler. If the boiler's domestic hot water circuit is set higher than 50 C, the SZ parameter (zone reversal temperature) of the Diemasol B regulator must be changed to 5 K above this domestic hot water circuit temperature setting. See the instructions supplied with the control unit and any remote control unit used. When the boiler and the heating system have been filled, check that the domestic hot water tank boiler heat exchanger is properly bled. 07/11/06-300001130-001-K TRIO DT 350/3 15

Set the 3-way valve to manual mode MM2 (refer to the Diemasol B regulator instructions) so that the upper heat exchanger is also flushed and filled. if the tank is not yet switched on, change the position of the valve manually. 3. Close the drain taps when the system is full. 4. At the end of the operation, do not forget to change back to automatic mode MM4. 5. Close the spherical liner valves again. The tank is fitted with a filling and draining device (No. 114) which can be used to flush the system. Important note about flushing and filling the system The solar installation has been designed in such as way that total draining of the collectors is impossible. Antifreeze is included in the mixture. Therefore it is imperative to flush and fill the solar installation with heat transfer fluid. Dietrisol POWER tubular solar panels: For the rinsing, to short-circuit the end of the rising main (upstream of the solar collector). To refer to the note of the solar collector. Not to carry out rinsing in the event of direct solar radiation (vapor formation) or if there is risk of freezing (risk of deteriorations). 16 TRIO DT 350/3 07/11/06-300001130-001-K

3.2 Leak test The system must be tested for leaks with the heat transfer fluid when flushing is finished. - Testing pressure: 2.5 bar - Test time: minimum 1 hour In the absence of air in the solar circuit, the test pressure must not decrease. When the test time has elapsed, allow the pressure in the system to rise until it triggers the safety valve (operating check). 4 Filling the solar circuit with heat transfer fluid Before the filling of the installation, to check the preload of the expansion vessel according to the static height. (Preload = static Height/10 + 0.3 bar). check the connection to the series of collectors and the collector sensor connection. Heat Transporting Fluid Propylene glycol leaks very easily. The pressure tests do not guarantee that there will be no leaks when the system is filled with propylene glycol under pressure. For this reason, we recommend an additional leak test when the system is filled and working. Do not carry out a leak test when the installation is exposed to direct solar radiation (risk of vaporisation) or when it is freezing (risk of damage). After the leak test, adjust the solar circuit pressure to 2 bar bar. Filling procedure Dietrisol PRO flat collectors:: Water/propylene glycol mixture or ready-to-use LS mixture Mixture ratio: 57/43-57 parts water - 43 parts propylene glycol The freezing point of this mixture is -28 C. Down to -33 C, it forms slush that will not burst the pipes. Dietrisol POWER tubular solar panels: Tyfocor HTL ready-to-use mixture (only). Filling pressure 1.5 max. 2 bar (or0.5 bar above the static height). The filling pressure must be more than 0.5 bar above the expansion chamber pre-load pressure. The ready-to-use mixture must be pumped directly from the container. Do not use a manual filling pump. Prolonged operation of the pump (85) will have caused preliminary degassing of the solar circuit. Filling Follow the same procedure as for rinsing. To put the installation under pressure, to close the blowoff valve on the return. Not to forget to open the valve B at the end of the filling. Since propylene glycol leaks much more easily than water, check all connections and gaskets for leaks after a few hours of operation at working pressure. 4. Pressure gauge 9. Isolation valve 46. 2-position 3-way directional valve 61. Thermometer 84. Stop valve with lockable nonreturn valve 85. Primary solar circuit pump 87. 4-bar calibrated and sealed safety valve (primary solar) 88. 18-litre expansion chamber, supplied (primary solar) (1.5bar preload) 89. Heat transfer fluid container 114. Primary solar circuit filling and draining device propylene glycol 126. Solar regulator 130. Manual bleed degasser - (Airstop) 07/11/06-300001130-001-K TRIO DT 350/3 17

8980N205 5 Bleed - Switch on the circulating pump: air bubbles move towards the bleed points (Airstop system and manual air vent). - Stop the circulating pump. - Open all the bleed valves to expel the air then close them again. Depending on the fluid temperature and system pressure, when the degassing screw is opened, the fluid may spurt out with some force. If the water temperature is high, be careful: RISK OF SCALDING. Repeat the operation several times; alternate operation of the pump assists degassing. Bleeding must be continued until pressure variations can no longer be detected at the pressure gauge, or when starting or stopping the pump. If loss of pressure continues, add heat transfer fluid in accordance with the filling instructions. After a few days of operation at high working temperature, bleeding should be repeated. This bleeding is necessary because small air bubbles form in the propylene glycol at high working temperatures. For systems installed in the winter, it is advisable to bleed them again in the summer. 6 Antithermosiphon valve 45 45 The antithermosiphon valve is included in the spherical liner valve on the red thermometer and it is characterized by an opening pressure of 200 mm water column. 1. For filling, degassing and rinsing the installation, the two spherical liner valves must be positioned at 45 (see illustration). The spherical liner in the valve lifts the antithermosiphon valve. 2. When the installation is in use, the spherical liner valves must be 'returned to the vertical position. The antithermosiphon valve operates when the stop cock is in the open position. 18 TRIO DT 350/3 07/11/06-300001130-001-K

7 Final checks before commissioning 1. The system is filled with De Dietrich heat transfer fluid without any air bubbles. Inspect all the connections in the system for leaks.. 2. Leave the fluid circulating round the system for some time and check again for leaks. (regulator in manual mode). 3. Open the bleed valve of the manual bleed degasser (bleed again). 8 Summer shutdown The system is designed in such a way that no special precautions are necessary during long periods of absence in summer. 4. Bring the pressure in the system up to the 2 bar working pressure by topping up if necessary with heat transfer fluid. 5. After several hours of operation, the system should be bled again (via the manual bleed degasser). After bleeding, check the system pressure and add more fluid if necessary. 6. Set the regulator to automatic mode. 7. Check the anti-thermosiphon valves on the outlet andthe return. Close them if necessary. Do not switch off the regulator, or drain off the heat transfer fluid. 9 Regulate technical to respect Installation must be carried out in accordance with the prevailing regulations, the codes of practice and the recommendations in these instructions. 8980N144 Maintenance 1 Solar installation We recommend that you take out a preventive maintenance contract to check the fluid level, antifreeze protection, pressure in the system, leak test and general operation every year or every two years. It is imperative to drain the solar circuit before any work is carried out. 2 Tank Magnesium anodes The magnesium anodes must be checked at least every 2, years. After the first check, determine the frequency of future checks on the basis of anode wear. The anodes can be checked by two methods: Inspection: the anode must be replaced if its diameter is less than 15 mm (original diameter = 33 mm). Function test: - disconnect the earth wire from the anode - measure the strength of the current between the tank and the anode. if the current is less than 0.1 ma, the anode must be replaced. If the anodes must be replaced, proceed as described below. Valve or safety unit The valve or safety unit must be operated at least once a month in order to ensure that it is operating correctly and to be forewarned of any overpressure which would damage the DHW tank. Descaling In hard water regions, it is advisable to ask the fitter to descale the DHW tank exchanger once a year in order to maintain its level of performance. Casing The casing of the DHW tank can be cleaned with soapy water. Procedures to follow for descaling, or checking or replacing the magnesium anodes Prepare a new sealing gasket 1. Cut off the cold water supply and drain the DHW tank. 2. To drain the safety unit, set the unit to "Drain" and open a hot water tap (or a drain valve) to let air enter. 3. Remove the inspection trap (13 mm spanner). 4. Check the anode and replace it if necessary. 5. Remove limescale deposits in the form of sludge or strips in the bottom of the tank. On the other hand, do not touch limescale adhering to the walls of the tank as it provides effective protection against corrosion and improves the insulation of the DHW tank. 6. To scale the exchangers in order to guarantee their performances. 7. Fit the unit together. 8. To replace the gasket of the flange. 9. After reassembly, check the watertightness of the lateral flange. 10. Switch on. The flange mounting bolts must not be excessively tight: 15 Nm. Use a dynamometric spanner. approximately 15 Nm can be obtained by using a box spanner with a long tommy bar. 20 TRIO DT 350/3 07/11/06-300001130-001-K
