Installation & Specs (2/8) The ESP Inverter Series Variable Speed outdoor units are ideally suited for medium size homes. When used with the HE-Z series indoor unit, the system modulates refrigerant flow and indoor air flow to precisely match output capacity to load. The ability to match output capacity to load results in superior energy performance not just at the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) condition but right through the operating envelope. Inverter technology has not been well suited to concealed multizone ducted applications due to its inability to reduce capacity below 40% (over 80% of operating profile). Historically systems have overcome this problem by running the indoor fan at high flow rates and dumping excess air into part of the home. This strategy wastes energy, sacrifices comfort and often results in the coil temperature being higher than the dew point of the air, creating a muggy feeling within the home. The ESP System maintains a constant air off condition and modulates airflow, and by doing so continues to remove moisture and runs extremely quiet at night. All inverter models are single phase ESP Variable Speed Heat Pump Dual Inverter models utilize 180 degree full wave D Inverter for refrigerant flow rate modulation and electronically commutated D for Indoor air flow rate modulation. Inverter models are horizontal discharge configuration. Refrigeration ircuit Installation & Specs (5/8) Pipe insulation must be used on both liquid and suction lines. The Electronic Expansion Valve is internal to the ESP Variable Speed Heat Pump, therefore a TXV at the evaporator (indoor unit) is not needed. Maximum pipe length is 213 ft (65 m). Lines must be sized correctly to ensure that pressure drops within the system are minimized. HVA mechanics should refer to the pipe sizing table below prior to installation. Refrigeration grade copper tubing is the only tubing to be used. Fittings used for bends, elbow, P trap, Y piece, etc., must be of the wrought copper type and clean from dust, burrs, oil, etc. It is recommended that the tube is cut with a tube cutter and the entire ID is made the correct size with an expanding device after cutting. All joints in the piping must be clean and free from dust, burrs, oil, etc. All joints must be silver soldered with at least 10% silver content. The ESP comes with a factory charge. Additional charge will only be needed on line sets longer than 49 ft. Field wiring shown on the wiring page is needed between the indoor unit and the interface panel, and between the interface panel and the outdoor unit using shielded cable. The interface panel and the outdoor unit both require 240v supply power. 2 temperature sensors are supplied with the interface panel, connected to the large circuit board. These temperature sensors will need to be installed for the unit to operate properly. Suction Line and Mid oil Temperature Sensor Remove the front access panel on the evaporator coil to gain access to the suction and mid coil temperature ports. The temperature ports are just a short piece of open ended copper tube. The suction port is located on the suction header. This is where the suction temperature sensor should be located and secured. The mid coil port is located on one of the U-bends in the middle of the coil. This is where the mid coil temperature sensor should be located and secured. Both of these temperature sensors/ports should be insulated with cork tape to ensure a true temperature reading of the tube and not of the ambient temperature. 5-5-
