ZINS500200_001_12-11 High performance TMV3 approved sequentially controlled thermostatic shower panel ideal for high risk environments.

Description The Reliance range of shower panels with a thermostatic sequential control are designed for use in high risk environments such as hospitals or nursing homes to protect vulnerable people from the danger of scalding. All of the thermostatic shower panels use the same one piece sequential thermostatic cartridge which has been tested to the NHS D08 specification, and approved by Buildcert under the TMV3 scheme. It is available in various versions which encompass either top or back entry connections, and a fixed head or a hand shower. Before installation ensure that the designation of the valve matches the application. Flow rates, dynamic pressures, and temperature must be within the limits stated, as valves operating outside of these conditions of use, cannot be guaranteed to operate correctly, as a type 3 shower. The shower must be installed in accordance with the Water Supply (Water fittings) Regulations 1999 and any relevant building regulations, specific to the application. Isolation valves & check valves must be fitted to the hot and cold water inlet supplies feeding the shower, it must also be installed in an easily accessible position for commissioning and future maintenance. Specification Connections for top inlet: 15mm Connections for back inlet: 1/2"MBSP Minimum pressure: 0.5 bar Maximum working pressure: 5 bar Maximum static pressure: 10bar Permitted supply pressure variation: 10:1 Pre-set flowrate: 8 LPM (Fixed head only) Hot temperature supply range: 50-80 C Recommended hot supply temperature: 52-65 C Cold temperature supply range: 5-20 C Factory set temperature: 38 C (+/-2 C) Minimum temperature differential: 10 C (Between hot supply and the outlet temperature) Routine Maintenance To comply with the current NHS guidelines the should be tested against the original performance results 6-8 weeks after installation. If the temperatures have remained to within +/- 2 C and the hot and cold water supply isolation tests are operating correctly, then a six monthly cycle of performance testing can be implemented. cr Performance Checks Performance checks that should be carried out at routine maintenance times are: 1. Check the set temperature using a hand-held digital thermometer. 2. Carry out the cold and hot water supply isolation tests. 3. If there is no significant change to the set outlet temperature (2 C or less change from the original settings) and the fail-safe shut off is functioning, then the valve is working correctly and no further service work is required. ipton 1 14

Remove the handle, this will expose the top of the thermostatic cartridge. Using a spanner, unscrew the cartridge. Installation Maintenance Please ensure that the pipe work is flushed through prior to installation. Accessing the Flow Regulator (fixed head only) The flow regulator is located behind the locking screw on the grid shower head. Remove the screws from the head and base of the shower panel. Use a 4mm allen key to remove the locking screw which in turn will remove the flow regulator. Replacing the Thermostatic Cartridge With the shower in the off position, use a suitable jewellers type screwdriver or similar, carefully remove the indices from the centre of the shower control to gain access to the allen screw that holds the handle onto the thermostatic cartridge. Using an allen key, remove the retaining screw Once loose, lift away the facia from the head and base of the shower panel. 3 12

Test 2. Repeat the test for the hot supply Record the testing done during the commissioning and also record the temperature of the hot and cold water supplies and the temperature of the mixed water at the full hot setting. In-Service Testing The purpose of in-service tests is to regularly monitor and record the performance of the thermostatic shower panels. Deterioration in performance can indicate the need for service work on the valve and/or the water supplies. Procedure Remove the screws from underneath the soap dish, twist the soap dish anti clockwise and remove. If the soap dish is required then keep it safe until re-assembly. Using the same measuring equipment, or equipment to the same specification as used in the commissioning of the valve, carry out the following sequence: Record the temperature of the hot and cold water supplies Record the temperature of the mixed water outlet Alternatively to blank the connection; take the circular cover provided and secure it to the base of the shower panel using 3 screws. Isolate the cold water supply to the shower panel, the flow should slow to a slight drip at most Isolate the hot water supply to the shower panel, the flow should slow to a slight drip at most Record the equipment, thermometer etc. used for the measurements x 3 If the mixed water temperature has changed +/- 2 C from the previous test results then this could indicate that the tap requires servicing. 11 4

6 Position the shower panel on the wall and mark the four positions for the fixing holes. Use a level to ensure the shower panel is straight. Since the installed supply conditions are likely to be different from those applied in the laboratory tests it is appropriate, at commissioning, to carry out some simple checks and tests on each shower panel to provide a performance reference point for future in-service tests. In all cases the following must be checked to ensure the correct performance of the thermostatic shower panel: It is recommended that the shower head is 2100mm from the floor. The designation of the thermostatic shower panel matches the intended application The supply pressures and temperatures are within the range of operating pressures and temperatures for the designation of the valve 2,1m Drill the holes and insert the rawl plugs. Secure the shower panel to the wall using the four screws provided. Once secure to the wall replace the head facia and tighten the screws. It is important to record the testing done during the commissioning and also to record the temperature of the hot and cold water supplies and the temperature of the mixed water at the full hot setting. Once the correct outlet temperature has been achieved, the valves internal mechanism should be exercised at least 3 times by alternately shutting off the hot and cold supplies while the tap is set in the full hot position. This will cause the piston inside the cartridge to travel its full stroke and ensure that it is moving freely so the valve can operate correctly. Then replace the bottom facia and tighten the screws to secure. Test 1. With the shower panel in the full hot position and both hot and cold supplies turned fully on and at system temperatures, isolate the cold supply to the thermostatic shower panel. The flow should reduce to a drip within a few seconds. Restore the cold supply and check that the set temperature has not altered. 5 10

Turn the shower on and check the temperature of the water with a handheld digital thermometer, continue to move the handle until the desired maximum temperature is achieved. Once set, remove the handle without changing the spindle position and re-fit the maximum temperature stop cam tight against the brass stop. Loosely fit the handle and shut off the shower MAX 38 C Re-fit the allen screw and replace the indice, making sure that the handle is in the desired position when shut off. Top Inlet If using a top inlet shower panel, place the washer/strainer in the union connection and screw the isolators to the pipes protruding from the panel. Connect your hot and cold pipework to the isolating valves. Open the isolator on the inlets to enable the water supply to flow. Back Inlet Note: Changing the maximum set temperature will change the amount of rotation on the handle. Increasing the temperature will mean extra rotation whilst decreasing will result in less rotation. If using a back inlet shower panel, place the washer/strainer on the flexible hose and screw together with the angled isolator. Connect your hot and cold pipework to the isolating valves. Open the isolator on the inlets to enable the water supply to flow. 1600 8 9 6

Commissioning The thermostatic shower panels are supplied factory set at a maximum of 38 C +/- 2 C, to alter this temperature please adopt the following procedure: With the shower in the off position, use a suitable jewellers type screwdriver or similar, carefully remove the indices from the centre of the shower control to gain access to the allen screw that holds the handle onto the thermostatic cartridge. You should now be able to see two stainless steel cams. One cam (lower) will be up against the brass stop while the other, the maximum temperature cam (upper), will be approximately in mid position. Using an allen key, remove the retaining screw followed by the handle, this will expose the top of the thermostatic cartridge. Remove the maximum temperature cam (upper) and loosely re-fit the shower handle. 7 8
