Abbots Leigh Abbots Leigh It is clear from first glimpses of its front façade that it is a house of some note. History relates that, when the Church of England purchased the Abbey Ruins in 1907, it appointed the mediaeval archaeologist, Frederick Bligh- Bond, to undertake excavations. He lived at Abbots Leigh for Fourteen years. The property was later owned by Montagu Phippen Porch who became Lady Randolph Churchill s third husband and stepfather to Winston Churchill, who visited the property a number of times. The Main House Listed Grade II of Special Architectural or Historic Interest, as is expected in a house of this caliber, all the main rooms are well-proportioned and of excellent sizes with many of the original period features including sash windows, open fireplaces, pretty cornicing and ceiling roses in most of the principal rooms. The Orangery is an impressive addition, built by David Salisbury in 2011. The downstairs accommodation also comprises of an impressive entrance hall with marble tiled flooring upon arrival. The drawing room which boosts an open fireplace, as does the adjoining dining room. The kitchen/breakfast room has original flagstone flooring as well as an extensive range of bespoke wall and base units with polished granite worktops. There is also space for a family snug benefitting from a further open fireplace. The utility room, good sized study and cloakroom complete the ground floor. The house provides excellent family accommodation with two-bedroom suites, Three further bedrooms and an impressive family bathroom. There are two further attic rooms. The Coach House Lying within the grounds of Abbots Leigh is the detached two bedroom cottage which can be accessed directly off the graveled parking. The accommodation is light and spacious. It is ideal for use by dependent relatives or for staff occupation.

The Grounds The property is accessed off Magdalene Street onto a gravelled driveway on the southern end of the property. This leads through electric double wrought iron gates. The main area of garden lies at the rear of the house and is predominantly walled with a large flagstone terrace adjacent to the orangery - excellent for alfresco dining. The garden borders the grounds of Glastonbury Abbey with excellent views over it. Adjacent to the terrace there are stocked borders with a variety of mixed lavenders and herbs There is a further smaller terrace with pond and a fine mature weeping willow with adjacent fir tree.
