1 SERVICE BULLETIN (Not applicable to Mack Trucks Australia) NUMBER: SB DATE: 7/12/04 MODEL: CX, CH REVISED AIR GOVERNOR LINES CX AND CH MODEL CHASSIS WITH ASET AC ENGINE Effective June 2004, stainless steel braided hoses with Teflon inner liners replaced the air governor plastic air lines on CX and CH models equipped with ASET AC engines. Additionally, a new air governor (part No ) was also implemented into production on these same models. In the event a plastic air line or an air governor needs replacement on an ASET AC-equipped CX or CH model manufactured prior to implementation of the steel braided hoses and revised air governor, replacement with these components is recommended. The steel braided air line terminates approximately mid-transmission, where the existing plastic line will be cut and spiced to the steel braided line using the transition fittings (part Nos. 63AX51438R and 63AX3661). Air Line Routing and Clamping Notes CX and CH Models with Bulkhead-Mounted Air Governors On chassis with a bulkhead-mounted governor, the steel braided air lines do not follow the same routing as the plastic lines. 7 The air line from the compressor to the air dryer is not completely replaced. The steel braided air line terminates approximately mid-transmission, where the existing plastic line will be cut and spiced to the steel braided line using the transition fittings (part Nos. 63AX51438R and 63AX3661). Installation of the steel-braided air lines on chassis having a bulkhead-mounted air governor require installation of the windshield washer reservoir heat shield (refer to service bulletin SB ). The air governor lines are routed down the inside of the heat shield (between the heat shield and reservoir) and secured to the mounting hole located at the bottom of the side shield using a clamp (part No. 83AX830), cap screw (part No. 26AM3) and nut (part No. 191AM1). Secure the governor air lines to the power steering reservoir mounting bracket as follows: 1. Remove the power steering reservoir. The reservoir can be removed and the mounting hole drilled in the mounting bracket without disconnecting the power steering hoses. Simply move the reservoir to a location (such as on the front tire) where the work can be performed Mark a location 1 (25.4 mm) from the backside of the bracket and 1 (25.4 mm) from the bottom of the bracket. 8 3. Drill a 1/4 hole at the marked location. 4. Reinstall the power steering reservoir. 5. Secure the governor air lines to the reservoir mounting bracket using a clamp (part No. 83AX830), cap screw (part No. 26AM3) and nut (191AM1). On chassis equipped with a WABCO compressor, the compressor-to-governor, and the governor to supply reservoir air lines are both secured to the frame rail stand-off bracket located next to the compressor. Use clamp part No. 83AX830 to secure the air lines to the stand-off bracket. On chassis equipped with a Bendix compressor, only the governor-to-supply reservoir is secured to the frame rail stand-off bracket. Use clamp part No. 83AX882 to secure the line to the stand-off bracket. To provide optimum routing, it will be necessary to loosen the stand-off bracket and rotate it toward the rear of the chassis as required to prevent kinking the air line(s). Reservoirs may have either 1/8 or 1/4 ports. Use fitting part No. 63AX3666 for reservoirs having 1/8 ports, and fitting part No. 63AX3669 for reservoirs having 1/4 ports.
