Therefore, an operator meters and spreads out the bulk on the floor. A machine helps him to turn it over. In the end, the dried biomass has to be collected again. MaB proposes a solution coming from industrial bulk handling. A front loader constitutes an intermediate stockpile that is metered and given into to process. The hopper is positionned upstream from the moving floor. Depending on the product advancement speed, the bulk is taken out of the stockpile and spread out on the moving floor. The fill level is generated by the height of the metering drum which can be modified by the operator. The humidity rate of the incoming biomass and its particle size are taken into account in order to optimize the drying process. The CPU can be programmed freely. 2 The heating plates A major problem of solar dryling systems is linked to the fact that the floor does not conduct warmth. Often, it is a concrete floor with poor conducting qualities. Industrial, hot air driven drying systems have similar problems. The conveyor support (rubber or plastics) is not adapted to thermal conduction. Standard moving floors are not neither. Normally, the gliding and leak tightness elements of moving floors are furnished in rubber or plastic materials. MaB has conceived a moving floor which consists of metal to 100 %. This moving floor is done to 100 % in steel profiles: gliding supports (cross bars), hollow profiles and leaktight linking plates which are screwed on the profiles. The heat is distributed from the top to the bottom (heat conducting profiles), and all over the length (by the profiles) and all over the width (by the crossbar suppports). The biomass can be loaded on the floor which has been heated by the sun before the use. Therefore, we paint it black.

3 The automatic sun power machine Solar drying depends on incoming solar radiation. If the sun power is not stable, a drying result cannot be planned. Depending on the weather forecast, the operator has to intervene returning the biomass, advancing it and spreading it out. This constellation creates a real economic problem. MaB avoids this complication: The bulk is drying fully automatically. In a first time, the humidity rate of the biomass is measured. The CPU regulates the moving floor advancing speed depending on the drying process. If the dryer works quickly, the CPU will accelerate the forward movement. If the dryer works slowly, the moving floor will wait until the expected result is obtained. The installed pwoer varies between 1 and 5 kw depending on the machine dimensions. The real electrical consumption is situated between 0,5 and 4 kwh. This relatively weak power need gives the possibility to produce electricity by solar panels and stored by batteries. In this way, the installation can be kept neutral on CO 2 emissions.

4 The «hybrid engine» Solar dryer In moderated weather regions solar drying has bad efficiency in winter months. The operator needs a programmable solution. MaB proposes a hybrid solution. On cloudy and rainy days, solar drying is slowed down. At this moment, an industrial solution for bulk material is more adapted. MaB integrates hot air valves or water tubes into the moving floor. In this way, additional heat helps to obtain programmable drying results. Therefore the moving floor is constructed in several levels. So, hot air or water heats the steel structure and circulates inside of the drying space. We can say that it is used twice.

5 The options MaB proposes different options in order to obtain a «hybrid» function. First of all, MaB focusses on best use of solar energy adding black metal surface on both sides. By the metallic support, a thermical conduction towards the drying products is done effectively. If hot air can be used to improve the drying process, it is introduced in the moving floor profiles which are leak tight by welding the facial plates. The air pressure is evacuated by air valves (holes) on the top of the profiles. If the operator possesses hot water, it can also be introduced to heat the profiles before leaving on the other side.
