8 EcoDesign (E.r.P.) A Directive to address European environmental emission reduction goals Europe has revisited the original EcoDesign Directive (Directive 2005/32/CE) and widened its field of application in order to achieve European 3 x 20 environmental goals (-20% energy consumption, -20% CO2 emissions, +20% renewable energies) by The initial scope of EcoDesign was E.u.P. (Energy using Products). However, the present scope of EcoDesign encompasses all products that are connected to the use of energy (e.g.: windows, panelling) and it has been more correctly named E.r.P. (Energy related Products). What does EcoDesign mean? EcoDesign means taking into consideration the environmental aspects of every product/service in question. This approach consists in considering CO2 emissions and energy consumption throughout the entire life of the product (from design to end of life, including transport). The application date is 1st January However, levels (a) and (b) will be increased every year and labelling will be updated every 2 years. The efficiency level (a) refers to seasonal efficiency of the system, called SCOP (heating) and SEER (conditioning) for the average European climate. This efficiency coefficient is going to replace the previous COP and EER values. For this reason, ErP sets minimum compulsory efficiency levels to enter the European market. At the same time, Erp requires the disclosure of technical data to users through a label which must show efficiency data and noise level, with the aim of assisting consumers in their choices. ErP applies to every conditioning and heating system independently from the type (air/air, air/water, water/water, boilers...), capacity, utilisation (heating, conditioning, DHW) via a range of Lots and different time frames. The fi rst Lot in force as of 1st January 2013 is Lot 10. It covers all air conditioners (air/air), with capacity lower than 12kW, operating in conditioning and/or heating. Ancillary consumptions (oil heater, thermostat off mode, off mode, standby ) Temperature conditions for an identified climate (obligatory average climate, optional hot climate and cold climate) and number of operating hours depending on outdoor temperatures Thermal load of the building (called Pdesign) For these reasons, the SCOP (and SEER) give a more accurate estimate of the actual efficiency of a system throughout the entire time of utilisation. 8

10 Technology Accessories and connettivity H-LINK Adapter: PSC-6RAD for centralised supervision of Room Air Conditioners All indoor units can be connected with the H-Link adapter (PSC-6RAD) in a single bus according to a communication protocol developed by Hitachi. This accessory makes residential units compatible with systems in the commercial, service industry and industrial range. The basic functions (On/Off, operation mode, set temperature, etc.) are programmable via the H-Link central controller. Compatibility MyHOME Bticino system through RAC Interfaces HC-A(8/64)MB and PSC-6RAD Through interfaces HC-A(8/64)MB and PSC-6RAD Hitachi RAC units are compatible with MyHOME Bticino solution. In this way it is possible to control RAC units remotely via smartphone, tablet and PCs. This is very useful for Hotels and Residential applications. Compatibility with Somfy through RAC Interface Somfy TaHoma (SPX-TAG01) Through interface SPX TAG01 Hitachi RAC units are compatible with Somfy TaHoma solution. In this way it is possible to control RAC and heat pumps units remotely via smartphone, tablet and PCs. Please contact Hitachi or Somfy for further details. 10

11 RAC Residential Accessories and connettivity Clean contact kit (SPX-WDC1/2/3/4) A clean contact kit is available for all indoor units to enable/disable remote operation. Typical applications are the window contact (the unit is turned off when a window is opened in the room so as not to waste energy) or the electronic key (the unit is turned off when the badge electronic key is removed from its slot). ID Switch When two indoor units are installed close to each other in the same room, the infra-red frequency on the remote controller can be differentiated, to prevent mixing the signals controlling them. ON OFF Distributor of signal (SPX-DST1 + SPX-WDST8M) The optional distributor SPX-DST1 can be used together with the remote controller when there is a need to centralise the control of multiple indoor units using only a single wired remote controller. WIRED REMOTE CONTROLLER First connection DISTRIBUTOR Second connection A single distributor could be connected further to 3 separate distributors so that up to 13 units of indoor could be controlled by a single wired remote controller. 12 Technology The new infrared remote controller has a variety of available features The new infra-red remote controller, available for a large number of models in the residential range, includes a host of functions to suit your lifestyle and assure the utmost comfort in your home. Its neat and essential design inspired by minimal and elegant aesthetics perfectly matches our air conditioners. All the information on your air conditioner s operation and condition are cle arly laid out on the large LCD display and the pictograms on the function keys make programming easy. A built-in sensor instantly measures your room temperature in any position The new infrared remote controller is equipped with a 7-day timer to suit your utilisation needs. Up to 6 on/off settings may be programmed for each day of the week, from Monday to Sunday. Up to 2 programs may be stored on the remote controller, for instance one valid in summer and the other in winter. The table below provides a programming example. 13 RAC Residential Remote controller functions ECO MODE It allows you to keep electricity consumption in check while always assuring fully efficient operation. POWERFUL MODE The system works at maximum power in heating or cooling mode for 20 minutes in order to meet the demand for comfort in the shortest possible time. When the 20 minutes have elapsed the system automatically returns to the initial condition. LEAVE HOME When leaving home for a long period of time in winter, this function prevents the rooms from getting too cold (below 10 C). The duration of the LEAVE HOME function may be set for the desired length of time. When the set period has expired, the unit goes back to operating in the previously set mode. INFO Three different parameters may be displayed with the INFO button. 1. Room temperature: the thermistor fitted in the remote controller lets you view the room temperature on the display. 2. Electrical consumption display: the monthly electrical consumption (current & previous month) may be displayed. 3. Malfunctioning self-diagnosis: in the event of failure, the LCD remote controller displays the error code for easier maintenance. SILENT MODE With the silent mode the sound level of the indoor unit may be lowered with just one touch by changing the fan speed. CLEANING Thanks to this feature the indoor unit will always keep clean and mould growth may be prevented after cooling operation by means of the evaporator s drying action. SLEEP TIMER The countdown timer may be set up to 7 hours duration. The ability to adjust temperature (±2 C) and lower fan speed assures comfortable sleep and considerable energy savings. SPX-RCDB SPX-RCDA WIRED REMOTE CONTROLLER For all RAC indoor units the optional wired remote controller is available: SPX-RCDB (for all indoor units except ducted ones) SPX-RCDA (only for ducted units) Some functions of the IR remote controller are not available for the wired remote controller, but it is always possible to activate them from IR remote controller even if the wired remote controller is installed. 13

50 Functions ECO MODE It limits the energy consumption for providing always a high efficiency working (with human activity and position detection sensor, with human absence sensor, without sensor). POWERFUL The system works at the maximum capacity in heating and cooling for 20 minutes for quickly satisfying the comfort request. After the 20 minutes the system is automatically reset to starting condition. SILENT MODE The silent mode offers the possibility of reducing noise level of the indoor unit by lowering the fan speed. LEAVE HOME This function prevents the room temperature from falling too much (lower than 10 C) when the house is not occupied for long time during winter. It is possible to set the duration of LEAVE HOME function (from 0 to 99 giorni) for the required period. For some models the minimum temperature can be selected (from 10 C to 16 C). At the end of the selected period the unit will work according to the set temperature previously selected. TIMER For all indoor units it is possible to set ON/OFF by means of a timer integrated in the remocon. Depending on the model the scheduling can be done on a weekly base or on 24 h or only on 12h. SLEEP TIMER The countdown can be set for up to 7 hours. Temperature regulation (±2 C) and the reduction of the fan speed provide comfortable sleeps and a great energy saving. INFO Three different parameters can be selected by means of INFO button. Room temperature: the thermistor mounted on the remocon allows to visualise on the display the information of room temperature. Energy consumption indication : the monthly energy consumption can be displayed (current and previous month). Self Diagnosis codes: in case of malfunctioning, the LCD remocon displays the error code for facilitating the service operations. 50

51 RAC Residential VERTICAL SWING Air flow rate vertically orientable by means of motorised louvers (for all models). ONE TOUCH CLEAN Drying the evaporator for preventing mould formation and bad odours. The activation of this function is suggested during summer. SWING ORIZZONTALE Air flow horizontally orientable by means of motorised louvers (for some models only). STAINLESS CLEAN Some intenal part of the air conditioner are in stainless steel for providing the highest cleaning of the treated air, reducing bacteria proliferation. Thanks to stainless steel the air conditioner is kept clean for very long time. EXTENDED AIRFLOW Airflow can be boosted for reaching the farthest areas of the room. ION MIST A ionized mist mechanism is able to refresh the air by ionising the water droplets with high voltage and emitting them into the room. These nano-sized ionized mist decomposes and significantly lowers the concentration of bacteria, fungi and pollens from indoor air. AUTO-FILTER CLEANING By simply pressing a button on the remocon, a robotic arm with a brush positioned on the prefilters automatically cleans the indoor unit. Dust and bacteria are collected in a small box in the indoor unit and neutralised by a wasabi filter. The user should only empty the box and wash it in warm water each two years. DRY CONTACT For all the indoor units a dry contact kit is available for enabling/disabling the remote activation of the unit. Typical applications are window contact (the indoor unit is switched off for energy saving when a window is opened) or badge contact (the unit is switched off when the badge is removed from its slot). AUTORESTART Auto restart function is available n case of discontinuity of power supply. It can be disabled by means of a dip switch. MODE LOCK Is it possible to lock the working mode only in COO- LING (+FAN MODE), or only HEATING (+FAN MODE), or only DEHUMIDIFYING (+FAN MODE). AUTO MODE In AUTO mode, the air conditioner automatically selects the working mode (cooling or heating) according to the indoor air temperature which is read. The working mode changes according to temperature. In case of MULTI combinations the working mode does not change. ID SWITCH When two indoor units are installed very close between them in the same environment, the IR frequency can be differentiated on the remocon, for preventing to confuse individual control signal. 51
