EvaPack accepts any type of water and the natural evaporative process is safe and hygienic. ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL IN YOUR DATA CENTER Preventing IT equipment failure requires servers to be maintained in an environment with controlled temperature and relative humidity. ASHRAE s Thermal Guidelines include the following recommended values for data centers: F [18-27 C] dry bulb temperature and 41.9 F [5.5 C] dew point to 60% RH and 34.7 F [15 C] dew point. 4 HOW THE EVAPACK SERIES WORKS THE ADIABATIC PROCESS IS SIMPLE, NATURAL AND EFFICIENT EvaPack uses the adiabatic process to convert liquid water to water vapor. Dry air passes through a corrugated bank of wetted cells media made from non-organic wet fibers. EvaPack uses the sensible air heat to evaporate the water, which cools and humidifies the air. The adiabatic process consumes no electricity, making EvaPack the ideal choice for data centers trying to achieve a reduce energy footprint. Both processes have humidity ratio (Δx) increase: from Xin (A) to Xout (C). The Saturation Efficiency (η) or Cooling Efficiency is expressed in % and corresponds to the ratio between the entering dry bulb temperature and exiting dry bulb temperature over the wet bulb depression: η = Real cooling/ Ideal cooling = (Tin - Tout ) / (Tin - Twb ) with: - Tin is the inlet air dry bulb temperature, - Tout is the outlet air dry bulb temperature, - Twb is the wet bulb temperature. For the humidification process B-C: the pad efficiency is smaller, and its thickness is thinner. For the humidification process D-E: the pad efficiency is higher, and its thickness is bigger. DIRECT ADIABATIC COOLING Using the adiabatic process, outside air is cooled and humidified, then directly injected in the server room. INDIRECT ADIABATIC COOLING After warm exhaust air has been cooled using the adiabatic process, it enters a heat recovery exchanger where it is used to cool fresh air. This solution is especially convenient when outside air must be cooled without increasing its humidity. TYPICAL CONFIGURATIONS Direct evaporative humidification adds humidity to the supply air. Air is cooled and humidified. Excess water washes the EvaPack evaporative pad and is eliminated (with minerals) from the water basin (2) through the draining connection (6). This DW configuration is recommended with high hardness supplied water (to increase the pad life time) or with reverse osmosis water (to reduce RO water consumption). Calibrated orifices deliver water evenly over each media pad (6). C Dry air passes through a corrugated bank of wetted cells media (6). Air is cooled and humidified. D Excess water washes the evaporative pad, then falls (with minerals) into the water tank. E Excess minerals are drained by the draining valve, minimizing water consumption and media scaling. This configuration is recommended when the available supplied water has low or medium hardness. WATER LEVEL DETECTOR Low: Pump is stopped if water goes below the low water control level.
