3 KARIM RASHID Karim Rashid is one of the leading industrial designers. He applies his talents to numerous fields: furniture, architecture, lighting, tableware, and - from now on household appliances. Born to an Egyptian-English couple in 1960 in Cairo, grew up in Ottawa, Canada, where he obtained a degree in Industrial Design from Carleton University. Studied also in Italy. Karim currently lives in New York, where he kick-started his career as a designer. He holds honorary doctorates from the Ontario college of Art & Design and Corcoran College of Art & Design.

Over 3000 designs in production, over 300 awards and working in over 35 countries attest to Karim's legend of design. A luminary in the world of international industrial design, Karim is undisputed king of colour. Karim's work is featured in 20 permanent collections and he exhibits art in galleries world wide. Karim is a perennial winner of the Red Dot award, Chicago Athenaeum Good Design award, I.D. Magazine Annual Design Review, IDSA Industrial Design Excellence award.

A highly efficient cooling system designed to keep the temperature of oven panels down during the cooking process (DC) as well as afterwards (DC+) ensures significantly cooler outer surfaces of oven panels. Once the oven has been switched off, a heat sensor keeps the fan going until the oven temperature has dropped below 60 C (DC+). Low temperature of the oven door, safe from burns. Superior door insulation in conjunction with special reflective glass layers improves oven performance together with significantly lower energy consumption. AquaClean, easy clean function. Just pour half a litre of tap water into a baking tray, place it into the cavity and select the AquaClean option. The steam generated by the auto-heat programme (70 C) acts to soften the dirt on the oven walls. After approximately half an hour simply wipe down the oven with a soft cloth. Using no cleaners whatsoever, the result is astounding as well as environmentally friendly. Spacious oven ceiling for extra safety The oven ceiling is slightly recessed just enough to accommodate the top heating element. This feature enables a better use of the oven interior and results in improved safety. This way, the risk of inadvertently touching any hot parts when reaching inside the oven is drastically reduced.

57 OVERVIEW_ ALL FEATURES_ HOBS Cooking with induction, accelerated heating with PowerBoost function. Twice the speed of cooking with gas, economy and safety are the main advantages of induction hobs. With this technology it is induction that heats the pan, not the hob. As a result, it is only the bottom of the pot that gets hot, meaning that the rest of the hob surface, which is not in touch with the pot, is cool and safe to touch. Once the pot has been removed from the heating zone or the heating zone has been switched off, the temperature of the hob surface drops rapidly. Due to this instant responsiveness of the induction zone there is no danger of the pot contents boiling over, which also spares you the inconvenient and unpleasant chore of extra cleaning. BoilControl, prevents pots from boiling over Your pots will never boil over ever again! The BoilControl feature enables temperature control on heating zones. Initially, the heating zone will operate at maximum heat until the desired temperature has been reached. After the initial cooking period, however, the hob automatically adjusts the heat output to hold the temperature at the set level. StopGo for maximum convenience This feature allows you to temporarily suspend the cooking process when unexpectedly called away. One touch of the StopGo key freezes all settings, giving you time to go and safely answer the door or deal with an emergency. All active heating zones are temporarily switched off until reactivated by the StopGo key.

58 OVERVIEW_ ALL FEATURES_ HOBS Using the right type of cookware Any cooking utensil with a ferromagnetic bottom (this can be easily checked with an ordinary magnet) can be used for cooking on an induction hob. Extremely easy to clean As the hob only heats the surface directly under the cookware, you do not have to worry about cleaning if a pot boils over, as nothing sticks or burns onto the hob. If something spills, simply py wipe it away with a wet cloth, and rinse the hob with ordinary tap water. Timer When preparing a dish, which you know from experience takes a certain amount of time to complete, you can set the timer for up to 99 minutes. When the cooking is concluded, the hob switches off automatically and activates an audio signal. Residual heat indicators (H) Ensuring even greater safety, residual energy indicators illuminate to reveal which zones of the hob are still radiating heat. As long as an indicator is lit, the respective heating zone should not be touched. It can, however, be used for defrosting or maintaining a dish warm.

59 OVERVIEW_ ALL FEATURES_ HOBS Safety switch-off function In order to ensure maximum safety, the uninterrupted operation of each hob is time limited. When the time limit of continual operation is reached, the hob switches off automatically. Overheat protection The induction hob is also equipped with a built-in overheat protection device that protects the electronic parts against damage as a consequence of excess heat. The device operates in several stages. When the temperature of a cooking zone increases considerably, it switches on a two-stage fan. Then, if necessary, it inactivates the power boost function, prior to any automatic reduction of power to the cooking zones and eventual switch off. When the hob cools down sufficiently, its entire heating surface and power is again available. Pan size recognition Another advantage of an induction hob is its ability to recognise the size of the utensil placed within the cooking zone. When the zone is switched on, the U sign lights up. If a pan is placed on the zone within the next ten minutes, it is automatically detected and the element operates according to the parameters set. If a smaller pan is placed within the cooking zone, this too is detected and the hob only uses as much power as the size of the particular utensil requires.

60 OVERVIEW_ ALL FEATURES_ HOBS Easy control The thoughtful positioning and size of the control symbols on glass ceramic hobs ensure excellent visibility and thus enable an even simpler operation of the hob and complete control over cooking for right- and left-handed users alike. ChildLock for safety The ChildLock function prevents children from interfering with or resetting the selected parameters, thus also providing protection against accidental activation and operation of the hob. 61 OVERVIEW_ ALL FEATURES_ HOOD Functional design Attractive design has become an important factor in our everyday lives; but good cooker hood design is simply pynot enough. A hood also needs to be functional, and a convenient source of light during cooking along with a low noise level are equally important factors to consider. Good ventilation is vital The purpose of a cooker hood is to maintain low pressure in the kitchen so that cooking odours are confined to the highest degree possible. There must be as much fresh air as air extracted for the cooker hood to work. The cooker hood draws in saturated air through a filter, the air cools, and the fat particles are trapped by the filter, while the air is expelled to the outside. Cleaning Cleaning is an important factor in prolonging the service life of both the cooker hood and its filters. There are special products for cleaning aluminium, which help prevent greasy fingerprints and form a barrier that protects the cooker hood s surfaces. Dirty and greasy filters can considerably reduce hood capacity. Filters can be cleaned by washing either by hand with dishwasher liquid, or in a dishwasher using a 65 C programme. Please note however that washing in a dishwasher can discolour the filters (although discolouration does not cause any deterioration in their effectiveness). We recommend cleaning filters roughly every two months.
