70 Before You Begin Observe all local plumbing, building, and electrical codes. Read these instructions and determine all required components along with their installation locations before beginning this installation. This product is designed for ceiling-mount installation only. Do not install to a shower wall. This manual covers vertical installation of the Power Data Supply (PDS) in a service closet or 2x6 stud pocket. If the wall is enclosed, an access panel must be provided for servicing. The PDS may also be mounted under the floor joists. If mounting under the floor, the unit must not be enclosed. The PDS must be located within 25 ft (7.62 m) of the rain panel. Inspect the supply piping for damage. Replace as necessary. A licensed electrician should install a 15 A 120 V GFCI/RCD electrical outlet within a service closet or 2x6 stud framing with access panel, not more than 2 ft (0.61 m) from the intended mounting location of the PDS. The PDS may be hardwired. For optional hardwire installation of the PDS, order Service Kit # To reduce the risk of electric shock, locate the outlet, PDS, and overhead rain panel within proximity to each other to allow for each cable to have a drip loop. 81 Light Panel Frame Finished Ceiling Escutcheon Socket Wrench With 11 mm Bit Waterway Screw Adapter Extension Double Ribs Inside Leak Shield Notch 9. Install the Waterway IMPORTANT! This step requires two people. Insert an escutcheon assembly into each of the four openings in the light panel. Orient each assembly so the double ribs on the inside of each leak shield are facing toward the center of the panel. While one installer holds the light panel in place in the rough opening, the other installer threads all four adapters onto the pipe nipples to hang the fixture. Once the adapters are installed, the panel can be released and should not be tight to the ceiling. IMPORTANT! Secure the adapter sufficiently to create a water-tight seal for the pipe threads. Secure the adapter using the 11 mm bit (provided) with the 11 mm or 7/16 socket extension, and socket wrench. Use masking tape to hold the bit in place to prevent it from falling off and causing damage to your shower. The light panel should still sit loosely against the ceiling. Install the waterway by aligning the notch in the waterway with the double ribs on the inside of the leak shield A 16 Kohler Co. p: f: Page 198 of 383

82 Install the Waterway (cont.) Product Code: SEES2 Press the waterway into place over the adapter. Secure the waterway to the adapter with the screw provided. Do not completely tighten at this time. Repeat for the remaining waterways. Tighten the screws evenly until the outer frame of the panel is against the ceiling, and the sealing gasket is compressed. IMPORTANT! If the light panel frame does not meet the ceiling within 1/32 (1 mm), the pipe nipple is too long. Check the rough depth. Try turning the threaded adapter further, or use a shorter pipe nipple. Using a 5/32 hex wrench, secure the sprayhead to the waterway with the two hex screws. Do not overtighten. Check the sprayhead for upward and downward movement and that it sits squarely within the escutcheon. Place the nozzle membrane over the sprayhead. Align the long edge of the membrane with the hinge ribs. NOTE: For optimum performance, ensure that the membrane is applied evenly. Applying pressure evenly, press the membrane seal into the sprayhead groove. Attach the Sprayface Tilt the sprayhead to expose the ribs on the end. Position the grooves of the sprayface over the hinge ribs of the sprayhead. Rotate the loose end of the sprayface toward the sprayhead, as illustrated. Press the sprayface into place to cover the sprayhead. Tilt the sprayhead assembly to expose the setscrew holes on the edge of the sprayhead A 18 Kohler Co. p: f: Page 200 of 383

When using this unit, basic precautions should always be followed. WARNING: Risk of personal injury. If you become uncomfortable while taking a steam bath, you should power off the unit. Cool off with the shower, open the door, or exit the unit. WARNING: Risk of allergic reaction. Before adding any oils, aromatic therapies, or skin care products to the aromatherapy well, make sure they will not cause an allergic reaction to the user. WARNING: Risk of personal injury. A steam bath can put undue stress on the body, as does any hot bath, shower, or sauna. Therefore, the steam bath may not be suitable for use if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, have high blood pressure, have circulatory problems, are under the influence of alcohol, are taking drugs or are under the care of a physician. WARNING: Risk of personal injury. DO NOT consume alcoholic beverages or take medications/drugs prior to or when using the steam bath. Alcohol and drugs affect mental judgement and inhibit bodily functions such as heartbeat and respiration, resulting in potentially dangerous effects. WARNING: Risk of injury to children. The steam generator is not designed to be used by children. Do not allow children to use this unit unless they are closely supervised at all times. WARNING: Risk of scalding. Do not block the steam head or locate it near a seat or bench, as the steam head is hot during operation and may scald the user if touched. DANGER: Risk of electrocution. Disconnect the electricity to the working area at the main breaker panel before performing these installation steps. WARNING: Risk of property damage. There should be a minimum of 12 (30.5 cm) of air space around the steam generator at all times. This provides an area for the heat generated by the unit to dissipate. IMPORTANT! Use this unit only for its intended use as specified in this manual. DO NOT use attachments not recommended by Kohler Co. Follow all local plumbing and electrical codes. All electrical work should be done by a licensed electrician. This steam adapter unit is a required accessory and must be installed with steam generators (K-1695, K-1696, K-1708, K-1713, K-1733, K-1734), user interfaces (K-694, K-695), and media modules (K-638) A 2 Kohler Co. p: f: Page 353 of 383

Do not locate the temperature sensor directly above the steam outlet. Follow the designated target locations for your module found in the Steam Hardware Location section. Make sure that the power is turned off at the main breaker panel before proceeding. Locate the temperature sensor on the wall 5 (12.7 cm) down from the ceiling. At the selected location, drill a hole 3/8 (1 cm) in diameter. IMPORTANT! Do not pinch, nail, wedge, or use undue force when handling the temperature sensor wire. Any damage to the wire may result in temperature sensor failure. If the temperature sensor is not installed immediately, protect the end connector with tape or other shielding material. IMPORTANT! When installing the temperature sensor, allow room in the sensor wire for a drip loop. The drip loop will discourage moisture from following the sensor cable to the steam generator. Insert the temperature sensor wire through the drilled holes. Route the temperature sensor wire behind the wall to the steam generator. Connection to the steam adapter to follow. Apply a small bead of silicone sealant around the back side of the sensor housing where it will contact the wall. Wipe off any excess sealant and do not let any sealant contact the sensor probe. Press the sensor firmly onto the wall. Allow the silicone sealant to cure before use. Kohler Co A p: f: Page 360 of 383

Cleaning Recommendation for Hansgrohe Products Modern sanitary tapware, kitchen mixers and showers consist of very different materials to comply with the needs of the market with regard to design and functionality. To avoid damage and reclamations, it is necessary to consider certain criteria when cleaning. Cleaning Materials for Mixers and Showers Acids are necessary ingredients of cleaning materials for removing lime, however please pay attention to the following points when cleaning mixers and showers: _ Only use cleaning material which is explicitly provided for this type of application, such as Hansgrohe s Decalcifying Agent, which is available through the specialist sanitary trade. _ Never use cleaning materials, which contain hydrochloric, formic or acetic acid, as they cause considerable damage. _ Phosphoric acid is also restricted as it can cause damage. _ Never mix any cleaning material with another. _ Never use cleaning materials or appliances with an abrasive effect, such as unsuitable cleaning powders, sponge pads or micro fibre cloths. Cleaning Instructions for Mixers and Showers Please follow the cleaning material manufacturer s instructions. In addition pay attention to the following points: _ Clean the mixers and showers as and when required _ The cleaning dosage and time the cleaner needs to take effect should be adjusted according to the product and the cleaner should not be left longer than necessary. _ Regular cleaning can prevent calcification. _ When using spray cleaner, spray first into a cloth or sponge never directly onto the sanitary tapware, as drops could enter openings and gaps and cause damage. _ After cleaning rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any cleaner residue. Important Residues of liquid soaps, shampoos and shower foams can also cause damage, so rinse with clean water after using. If the surface is already damaged, the effect of cleaning materials will cause further damage. Damage caused by improper treatment will not be covered by our guarantee.
