3 Product Overview We ll help you select the right technology to meet your needs. NRD offers four categories of ionization devices for total static control: 1. ALPHA IONIZING STATIC ELIMINATORS These state-of-the-art ionizers are self-powered, offer zero-volts balanced ionization and require little to no maintenance. Unlike corona ionizers, alpha ionizers do not generate particulate, making them an ideal choice for cleanroom applications. And, because they re self-powered, they are intrinsically safe for use in flammable or explosive environments. Because they re inherently zero-volts balanced, they re the preferred choice for use in electronics manufacturing as well. Alpha ionization is an inherently clean and balanced technology that eliminates all particle concerns associated with corona ionization. Our line of alpha ionizers includes end-of-line devices, blow-off guns, linear ionizers, blowers, and spot ionizers. 2. CORONA IONIZING We offer a full line of AC ionizers suitable for your most demanding industrial applications. Our linear Ionizers provide a shockless design, recessed emitter pins and shielded cable to reduce the harmful effects of EMI and RFI. We also offer both bench top and large area coverage blowers, as well as blow-off guns and end-of-line devices. 3. BATTERY OPERATED NRD has developed a line of battery operated static eliminators that are portable, and used for the specialty industries of photography and painting and refinishing. 4. PASSIVE IONIZING NRD s cost effective line of passive ionizers come in three configurations suited to web applications; stranded copper tinsel, ion cord, and tinsel bars. ALPHA IONIZING Our alpha ionizers are designed for use in applications requiring continuous flow, wide-area coverage or in applications where flammable or explosive materials are present. Common applications include electronics manufacturing and assembly, optics, graphics and the plastics industries. Alpha Ionizing Blow-off Guns General/Industrial Our ionizing blow-off gun kits are designed for applications where it is desirable to not only remove dust and particulate from a surface, but to remove the static charge that attracts the foreign material as well. Cleanroom Ideal for cleanroom applications, these devices utilize a 0.5 micron filter and 316 electro polished ionizing cartridge and tip to eliminate introduction of particulate matter onto the work surface. Refinishing Ideal for use in the auto body, boat building and furniture industries. These high-quality guns are ideally suited for use with clean, dry compressed air or other inert gases such as nitrogen or argon. Spot Ionizers In addition to our larger linear ionizers, we offer a line of compact alpha ionization sources that are ideally suited for applications where space is limited or difficult to reach using a physically larger ionizer. This product line is ideally suited for applications associated with analytical equipment such as micro balances and electronics manufacturing and testing. Ionizing Blowers We offer a line of ionized air movers designed to cover a wide range of applications from electronics manufacturing and testing to processes where flammable or explosive materials may be present. Utilizing our proprietary alpha ionizing technology, these quiet and compact fans provide a continually balanced output down to zero volts. They are ideally suited for bench-top electronics repair and assembly. The devices can also be made available with an articulated positioning arm to maximize unit place for optimal efficiency. Our unique technology eliminates the need for constant recalibration normally associated with other types of ionizing technologies. Linear Ionizers Designed for use in web type applications requiring wide-area coverage. They are self-powered and intrinsically safe for use in explosive or flammable environments. Common applications are found in the textile, plastics, and printing industries. These products are available in lengths from 4 to 144 in 1 increments. They can be equipped with our air knives which can be adjusted to deliver a gentle curtain of ionized air to a powerful blast of concentrated ionization at high pressure. 5 2. CORONA IONIZING Many of the products available in our alpha line are also manufactured by NRD utilizing AC power to achieve the ionizing static eliminating effectiveness of our alpha products. They include: AC Blower Ionizing Units Linear Ionizers End-of-line Ionizers (EOL) Ionizing Blow-off Guns Power Supply Units Available in 115V/220V switchable version, this unit is a low power, high impedance step-up potted transformer with internal current limits to provide appropriate power to the ionizer and safety to the end-user. The mounting plate and cable connectors are designed to make it interchangeable with other manufactures of static control devices. 3. BATTERY OPERATED To promote further safety and portability, NRD has developed a line of battery operated static elimination devices for specific industries. Included in this line are a rechargeable portable air gun which operates using compressed air along with a lithium ion battery that neutralizes the static charge holding particulates on the surface to be painted. NRD has also introduced the 9 volt battery operated digital camera sensor cleaner used by professional and amateur photographers alike to remove dust from the CMOS sensor of digital single lens reflex cameras. 4. PASSIVE IONIZING Highly effective and easy to install, our passive ionizing static eliminators are a low cost way to reduce the effects of static electric charging on your process materials. Our passive antistatic devices include both tinsel and a 100% carbon fiber cord which both are extremely effective at removing higher static charges. 6 ESD AUDITING An effective ESD control program is maintained through regular process evaluation and auditing of those processes and the associated equipment utilized in the defined program. As a part of the evaluation process, an ESD program should strive to: Determine the level of ESD control that is necessary relative to device sensitivity and existing ESD controls Identify the cause(s) of difficult ESD problems Define the ESD requirements.
