1 NEWSLETTER FOR THE PALM BEACH BATH & TENNIS HOMEOWNER S ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT S MESSAGE At our Board meeting on April 20, our CPA came to give our 2016 year-end report. Unfortunately, in 2016, our expenses were more than our income. As the community ages, we need to take into consideration the cost of repairing, replacing and just maintaining things here in our community. The re-sealing of our roads has been put off until November. One of the reasons is that by the time all the permits are pulled, it will be the hurricane and rainy season. This isn t the most optimal time to do road work. It ll also give us some time to build up the reserves. We re looking into changing the locks at the clubhouse, since so many neglect to make sure the door is locked after they take their key out. It s really quite simple, unlock the door, hold it open, and turn the key until you hear it click. Leaving the door open makes us vulnerable to intruders. The front door and the doors leading to the pool, work the same way. I d like to thank Tom Janata for his help in many projects here in the community. Tom volunteers his help whenever he hears that something needs to be done. First call ADT ( ) and tell them you want to test your alarm. They will advise you how to do it. It s important to register your alarm with the Sheriff, if you haven t already done it. 2 Board Meeting Minutes for Palm Beach Bath and Tennis April 20, 2017 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Pres. Ed Kelly ROLL CALL: Ed Kelly, Max Jeria, Jess Parker, Barbara Krugman, Michael De Marco. Absent : Lilliam Janata Our CPA from Sullivan Fengler gave the 2016 year- end report. We ended the year with a deficit due to unexpected events that weren t budgeted for. She made some suggestions as to how to have money on hand should an emergency arise. One of the ways is to establish a line of credit with our bank. There were some questions from homeowners in attendance. She was able to answer all of them. TMG MANAGER S REPORT: Our management company has merged with another company. The only change in our relationship, so far, is a new Property Manager. Her name is Jennifer Olson. We met Jennifer and she seems very knowledgeable about managing a community. The Board is looking forward to having a good relationship with her. OLD BUSINESS: Ed Kelly made a motion that we accept and sign the contract with Atlantic Southern Paving & Sealcoating Company. Barbara Krugman seconded. The motion passed 5 to1. Jackie Ermola cast the no vote. Atlantic Southern will hold the price for 6 months. We ll have the roads done by November. Two No Trespassing signs have been ordered, one for the front and one for the back. Home inspections were done a couple of weeks ago by TMG. There were several houses that needed work that weren t picked up at the inspection, so TMG will come back in again to take another look. HOMEOWNERS FORUM: Homeowner said that the Clubhouse door as well as the doors to the pool area is left open many times. We will look into having the locks changed to locks that automatically lock. Homeowner questioned the cost of renting the Clubhouse. She thought the cost was too high. The Board will take it under advisement. Ed Kelly motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:45. 3 ST. PATRICK S DAY EVENT A thank you goes to Jackie Ermola, Janice Cuff and Caren Briggs for putting together an Appetizer event at the clubhouse. Those who came were treated to an assortment of delicious appetizers, drinks and good company. It was an enjoyable few hours with neighbors and friends.

4 NOTICE FROM THE SHERIFF S OFFICE: ATTENTION PALM BEACH COUNTY RESIDENTS Several vehicle burglaries have been occurring in our county. PLEASE remove all valuables, as many of the recent cases have involved smashed windows. PLEASE lock your vehicles. If you have extra key fobs or an extra set of keys Please do not leave them in your vehicle. Recent vehicle theft cases have involved keys being left inside the vehicles. Once the extra keys are found by the suspects, the vehicles are being stolen.. If you see someone who does not belong in your neighborhood call immediately or 911 if you see crimes being committed. HELP us catch those criminals who are committing these crimes in our neighborhood.

6 Dear Recyclinda, Q: Can I recycle metal fuel canisters? A: This is an easy answer yes and no! Any container that has or has had a hazardous liquid or gas inside of it can definitely be dropped-off at any of the SWA s seven Home Chemical and Recycling Centers. There, old fuels, aerosol spray cans, and lighter fluid and fuel canisters will be recycled or disposed of in an environmentally-responsible fashion. However, these containers NEVER go in your curbside recycling bin. Even if you are sure there is no longer any hazardous liquid inside, the containers could still be dangerous at the recycling center. Q: Why are we so cautious? A: Because fires at recycling centers are rare but happen. The SWA recently experienced a fire at our Recovered Materials Processing Facility on 45th Street in West A fire at the SWA's steel bunk on Jan. 17 Palm Beach. Fire officials suspect it was started by a fuel canister that someone put in their blue recycling bin. They think that the canister made its way to our recycling center and, during the recycling process, it was punctured and burst into flame. Fortunately, the flame-up occurred in a concrete bunker of sorted metals, so no one was injured and there was minimal damage to the facility. Help us keep our recycling center employees safe If you wouldn t want an item in your kitchen, we don t want it in the recycling bin! Recycling Bin Hall of Shame This bin doesn't look too terrible from afar, but pay attention and you start to notice that some things don't belong... For instance, those plastic foam carry-out containers cannot be recycled in your Blue or Yellow bin, nor can the paper cups in the top left corner. The final offender? The cookie wrapper at the bottom. Plastic film and wraps are not recyclable in either bin, either. Every Drop of Water Counts Make conserving water a daily part of your routine Following water conservation practices can make an impact on future water supplies. Here are 4 simple steps that homeowners can take to conserve this vital resource: 1. When doing laundry, always wash full loads. Conventional washers built before 2011 typically use 40 gallons per load. Resource-efficient washer may use as little as 15 gallons per load. Adjust the water level in the washer to the amount needed for the load. 2. Install an efficient dishwasher. Technological advances in dishwashers make it possible to use less water to achieve the same goal. Dishwashers use less water than hand-washing, particularly if you limit pre-rinsing. If washing dishes by hand, fill the sink with water rather than continually running the tap. 3. Find and fix any leaky faucets. A faucet leaking 60 drops per minute will waste 192 gallons per month. That is equal to 2,304 gallons per year. Turn off the faucet when lathering hands, shaving or brushing teeth. 4. Check toilets to verify they are working properly. Make sure the water level is not too high, the fill valve is working properly and the flapper is not leaking. A running toilet can waste hundreds of gallons of water per day. Conserving water by using it efficiently and avoiding waste is one way to ensure that we have adequate water supplies for the future. It is up to all of us to use the water we have wisely and it is as simple as making small changes. Make conserving water a daily part of your life and remember when you save water, you save energy and money! 8 SAVING MONEY WITH FPL S ON CALL PROGRAM When you volunteer to enroll in On Call, you re actually signing up to put your selected appliances on call to help us meet the energy needs of all customers during times of high energy usage. In exchange for your participation, you ll receive a credit on your energy bill even if we never turn off your appliances. THE INS AND OUTS OF ON CALL: Signing up for On Call is easy. Enter your billing address to see if you are eligible to participate We ll call you to walk through the program options, its benefits and help determine which of your appliances are eligible for participation, like your water heater, pool pump or air conditioner Next, you ll receive a call from an On Call contractor to schedule an appointment to connect a small energy-management device to the selected appliances In exchange for your voluntary participation and depending on the appliances you choose to enroll, you could receive a credit of up to $137 a year even if we never need to turn off your appliances. Choices, choices! When you enroll in On Call, you can select the appliances and option that works best for you. There are two program choices Cycle Option or Extended Option. These options determine: Which household appliances we ll connect to the energy-management device How much you can save annually up to $137 a year How long we can turn off the selected appliances OPTION 1: Cycle Option Central A/C and Central Heater Only When you enroll in the Cycle Option, we can turn off your central A/C and central heater for up to 17.5 minutes per half hour within a six-hour window in the winter and eight-hour in the summer. OPTION 1: Extended Option Central A/C, Central Heater, Electric Water Heater, Pool Pump When you enroll in the Extended Option, you can save even more! This option turns off your A/C and central heater for up to three consecutive hours, during a 24-hour period. In addition, you can also enroll your water heater and pool pump which could be shut off for up to four consecutive hours, during a 24-hour period.
